I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this frustration.  I have adjusted my seasons to shorter sp, su and fl.  I've decided I quite like winter.  It's quite longer.  For me it offers the most fun.  I've always carried flame fruit in all their backpacks and I think that may be keeping the sims warm.  They don't seem at all bothered by the cold, in spite of the storms.  Likewise it may also cause them to be hotter faster in the summer.  I'll remove it then and see if that helps.  Maybe I'll just toggle the rain, hail etc on and off at my whim.  There really is so much fun in this EP.
Also, I've taken to keeping a dedicated lot for the Festival Grounds.  I put it in 4 days before the next season.  The holiday day occurs at 3 days before, and I remove the park 2 days before.  That way they get 2 full days of fair fun, and my people aren't forever doomed to man booths.  Also it makes the activities more attractive and not so mundane as when they are there all the time.  That works for me.  I've reconstructed on of my houses (my epic character's) but the rest are a daunting chore.  I may fiddle with all the weather controls again at my whim, so hopefully I won't have to do much of that.  Where there's a will, there's a way.I'm reconsidering my opinion.  Yeah!!

"I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this frustration. "

You aren't, several here have remarked they find it a royal pain.  I went to options and clicked off rain and hail.  At first I didn't mess with hail but it seemed to show up at the wrong time too much.

I reset the number of days for each season, five for all but winter, I changed that to 10 and put summer at 25.  I also change the temps to what I like.  I set the ages different from the default, have them spending time in each age level that I like which as increased their age quite a bit, but I like it that way.

Please don't give up on the game, there is so much it offers after changing the weather to what you like that it is fun.  I don't like some of the festivals games, I think they need more for fall, but since I don't send my sims there a lot it isn't a big problem.

thanks.  I've not given up.  I didn't realize about setting the temperature.  Good to know.  I don't like my main parks being lost to the festival grounds.  I work on my towns lots to satisfy my play options.  Keeping that dedicated lot for the fair is really nice.  Try that if you can find or put in a lot big enough.  Also, You're not limited to using the park designed for that town.  I use Lexington (Appaloosa) in Twinbrook.

I have customized my seasons to my game file. Sunlit Tides has a very long summer and a short rainy season of autumn. Spring and Winter are turned off. Monte Vista has a longer summer, shorter spring and fall, and a very brief winter.

I've also turned off rain and hail and snow in some games.

One of my favorite bits of Seasons is the festivals. It's a great place to take a date, or to take the entire family and everyone has something to do. I like the seasonal markers to customize lots. I haven't gone crazy with seasonal lots, but it's nice to add an ice rink to a playground in winter, that sort of thing.

And Hidden Springs in the rain is absolutely gorgeous.

Terrible thread necromancy here (hello from 2016!), but I want to share my impressions of Seasons, too, since I only got it a few months ago.

I really, really like the holidays and festivals added into the game. I love spending leisure day skating, collecting flowers, and playing soccer. The fireworks are also on point.

I figured out a "cheaty" way to give at least the active household children a summer vacation. One of the Nraas mods (Careers, I believe?) gives you the option to sign the children and teens up to be homeschooled. All they have to do is download their homework assignment from the computer, complete it, and then download another homework assignment. Then, when Fall rolls around, sign them back up for normal school until the next summer and you put them back into homeschooling.
