In buy mode, under roof decorations, you'll find the ceiling pieces. Arrange them however you like, when they're on the flat roof, the roof becomes invisible.

Are you talking about the cornice pieces?  I placed a corner one and the flat roof under it was still visible.  Does it take all the pieces for the roof to go invisible?  But then the cornice pieces will still show, right?

For the plants themselves, you can approach it three ways:
1) Put all non-tree plants in the planters, stick them inside. Lay down desired flooring. Put trees outside.
2) Put all non-tree plants in the planters, stick them inside. Lay down desired flooring, except in the spot you want the trees. Put trees inside (I usually just use MoveObjects On for this). Trees growing indoors would break the floor of the 2nd story. Using this method, I strangely didn't have the unfinished room moodlet.
3) Plant everything on the ground, don't put down any flooring. This will give you the unfinished room moodlet, but it's hardly a big deal. Again, MoveObjects On is a big help here.

I'm guessing that over a certain amount of floor tiles the unfinished room moodlet will vanish hence number 2 not getting it.

What I did to counter it but still make it look realistic is put carpet down that I gave a mottled paint texture coloured dark brown so it looked like dirt.

I'm at work so I can't look properly, but if memory serves, the greenhouse roof pieces are the first options in the Roof Decorations in Buy Mode - they all have a black metal framework look. Placing one piece should still make that section of the roof disappear. I want to say there are 5 different pieces - a center piece, rounded edge corners, connectors, etc.

If someone hasn't beaten me to it, when I get home later I can go digging and see about screenshots and whatnot.

(Just to emphasize, I'm finding the pieces in Buy Mode (F2) and not Build Mode (F3).)

Another way to do it, if someone doesn't have the greenhouses and doesn't want to use moveobjects, is to plant the garden, then build the room around it.  The interior will give the unfinished room moodlet, but plants don't go dormant.  To replant, delete one section of the wall, which turns the room into the outdoors again.  Don't quote me, but I think if you place the sprinkler and turn it on before building the walls, it will stay on and continue to water the plants.

Personally I tend to use the dirt-coloured flooring + moveobjects method for my indoor gardening needs.  I have the sim plant everything in the yard, then arrange the plants inside with moveobjects.

Thanks again.  I must not have the pieces installed because I'm not seeing what you describe at all.  I'll do some checking at the Store and see if I missed downloading it somehow.

Well, it's also possible that patch 1.50 deleted them somehow.

I say that only because after the patch, I lost the Thanksgiving set, then the latest baby set, and had to reinstall both of those.

Ok, I finally got the greenhouse roof pieces.  I had to download it again from the Store.  I made a 6 x 6 building with the regular wall tool, then put the Regifted Window, the Window Schmindow, and Prank Proof glass door.  I put a flat roof on it and then put two end pieces of the glass roof pieces on top of the flat roof.  Nothing!  I can still see the flat roof and my Sim cannot plant anything inside.  When she tries to plant a garlic seed, it says it needs to be outdoors.

You have to move them into the greenhouse using MoveObjects on. For every single plant, which is just as annoying as it sounds.

I have no idea about the roof though.

Alternatively, plants can go into planters indoors (except for trees). You can also delete a single section of the wall so it's not enclosed, plant everything, then enclose it after the fact.

The roof is puzzling, though, since the parts of it under the glass roof pieces should be invisible.

I'll be home in a couple of hours, and will build a fresh greenhouse in a virgin file.

To get the plants inside you can either
1)Plant outside, turn on MoveObjects, move the plants inside, turn MoveObjects back off, or
2)Turn MoveObjects on, plant inside, turn MoveObjects back off - it only needs to be on while you are giving the planting orders, the actions will still complete with it off.

Your flat roof SHOULD have disappeared, no idea why it didn't.

I think I got it figured out.  The clear roof pieces were larger than the greenhouse walls.  I started over and got everything the right size, and this time when I placed the roof pieces on top of the flat roof, it changed.  It doesn't look clear, though.  It looks black, but maybe that's how it's supposed to be.  With Moveobjects turned on, I was able to plant, at least.  And the sprinkler works inside, too.  I'm pretty happy with it at the moment.  Thank you all again.  :)

Here's a picture of what I made.

It shouldn't be black underneath.

As you can see, I left the framework as black, but used white windows, and you can see the window frames through the roof. (Note: You can also see that it's a two story greenhouse, no thanks to my failure of picture editing.)

Did you use the standard flat roof, or did you customize the tile pattern? That's the only thing I can think of offhand to explain why yours is still black.

Edit: I saw elsewhere you were asking about the Swiftgro Gardening Station's location.

Hopefully, that helps!

Thank you, Shirin.  I didn't do anything to the flat roof.  I had to turn off auto-roof to keep the greenhouse from having the same roof as the rest of the house, and then manually placed the flat roof.  I'm wondering now if maybe it's a graphics issue.  My graphics card is out of date and I'm going to update my computer as soon as I can get my silly desk cleared off.  That means probably not within the next 24 hours.  Ha!  If mine is still black after my computer is all jazzed up, we'll know it's not a graphics issue.

Thanks also for the marker for the gardening station.  :)

You're very welcome, and have fun with the gardening station.

(Hint: It'll drop random seeds around the area. I've found that just before I go to use Identify Seeds on the station, it's best to separate the stacks of seeds into individuals; if they remain in stacks when identified, my seed stacks all disappear into the nether whenever I try to interact with them, whether selling, planting, or using for compost.)

I'm actually going to have to wait to play with the gardening station.  I'm playing a Sim to write an article for the Guide and her lot isn't large enough for it!  And she doesn't have enough money to move to a larger one.  Soon, though.
