Calling fellow computer "geeks"
« on: October 26, 2009, 07:32:58 PM »
I will be the first to admit that I am a geek - but I can't figure this out. I have an HP laptop with Vista (don't get me started!!)  I went out and bought an external HD to keep all my game data because it was running slow, so I wanted to move over as much as I could - family pics, personal documents etc to the drive. Went out and bought a 1T HD. Problem: Loaded Sims 3 on there but for some reason, every time I do an in game screenshot, it is defaulting to the C drive. I can't seem to find the options to change that to point to the X drive. I'm sure this is a realitively simpe fix, but frankly I am so tired right now I can't think.

Cat's decided at 2:30 AM that I was sleeping too soundly for their liking so they chased each other around my house, knocking lamps over, running by the dog crate (of course that woke him up and he started barking) and apparently one of them cornered the other in the bathroom where all my lotions, shampoo bottles, etc on the sink and in the tub ended up on the floor. Do you know how LOUD a 7 & 15 lb cat actually IS at 2 in the morning??!  :P

Yes, the other is 15lbs..big tom cat.. I think it's mostly fur (long hair calico)

Anyway I'm sure the answer is here somewhere but I'm too tired to function. Any idea's? ;)
I will love him and squeeze him and pet him and call him George!!

Hi Bogie!

I can't say for sure if this will work for you, but maybe it's worth a try.  At one time, I had a duplicate folder for screenshots on my desktop.  The game would save them in both locations.  So, try going into Explore, click on Documents, Electronic Arts, Sims 3.  Then right click on the Screenshots folder and select Create Shortcut.  The new shortcut folder will be in the same location as the Screenshots folder.  Then right click the new shortcut and select Send To and you'll get several options for various drives on your computer.  I think that maybe if you select the location of your new X drive, you'll be able to get your game screenshots there.  I don't know about completely changing the target location within the game, but this might be a work-around for you.  Please let me know if it works.

And yes, I can sympathize about the cats!  I have four of the darlings and they sometimes get a little rowdy!  =^..^=

;D Pam thanks so much. Will have to try that when I get home. I'm pretty sure it will work though - seems logical to me!!  ;)

I went ahead and cleaned out that folder last night. Apparently, I had 52.4MG of screenshots!! Game stopped freezing up when I cleaned it -duhh!!  ;D

Will have to post some of them. They are just too funny!!

I don't think there is a way to make the game save the screenshots somewhere else. The method Pam describes only puts a shortcut on your X drive, the actual files are still stored in the default folder.

Anyway I don't think it really matters. Regardless of where the game saves the screenshots I think you will still need to clean out that folder regularly and save the pics somewhere else, otherwise the game launcher is going to load them every time you play and that probably slows the game if you have a lot.

Yeah, after searching through The Sims 3's ini files and the registry, I don't see any reference to the default save directory. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that seems to be hard-coded. I'd like to do this myself...

Which might infer that the game developers are not that pro at programming...
I thought many games allow you to save screenshots anywhere you like?

More likely, it infers that they are stubborn control freaks who insist on doing things their own way.

I agreee with Pam... they're protecting you from your own inability to decide where to put them. Don't you love when software thinks for you ;D

Yes, 6 of them, all under 2 years old, and 4 less than 1 yr old. (One stop too many at the local shelter.... normal people adopt 1 cat at a time, my husband and I do pairs) We hold nightly races of the Kitty-tona 500 :o and our bedroom is in the lower level of a split-ranch. This is determined to being an advantage over leaving the bedroom door open at night, and our bed being the pit-stop :-[

I am DYING!!!  :D :D :D

That is just hilarious! I tried shutting the bedroom door, however, Sherbert - the 15lb sits outside the door and cries like a baby. Olivia 5lb grey tiger puts her paws underneath the door and moves the door within the frame so it bangs! Sherby AKA Derb derb and Olivia were both rescues. Sherb was actually a birthday present for my ex, however, for some reason he wouldn't go near the ex..should have known then haha! Last night 3:25am he decided to play with the empty cat bowl and bat it around the room. When he got bored with that, he started licking a plastic bag I had up there -(was trying to hang curtains) When he woke me up, I said 'Sherbert STOP THAT RIGHT NOW" so he got up on the bed and bit me.  :P

Gotta love the "love bites" that early in the AM. Olivia finally smacked him and came up and laid down with me, and bit me once for good measure! I'm just glad today was my AWS, because needless to say, I had no sleep last night!! They outdid themselves...

I will love him and squeeze him and pet him and call him George!!

Don't worry, the bleeding will stop soon
I'll have to see if I can find pics of our babies. Not that it's possible to get all 6 in 1 shot.
