My computer has recently been through a system restore, and my files and everything is still there. Although, it has seemed to reset the Sims 3 tutorial, and has caused it to pop up every time I start playing. The last two times I have actually played Sims after the restore, I have made new save files, so I'm unsure if the tutorial will pop up whilst continuing another save file. Since it's pretty weird that it pops up after 3 years of the game being on my computer, how can I disable the tutorial from coming up?

Hi Katie,

If I'm understanding this correctly, you're asking how to get out of the Sims 3 Tutorial? If so, try selecting Edit Town from the main menu. The game should then ask if you would like to exit the tutorial. At that point you can choose yes or no.

Sorry for not making it clear in my first post, but I my question is, how do you disable the tutorial from coming up again? I know how to get out of it, I just don't want it to come up every time I'm on.

You mean the pop up's in the corner of the screen? I get it also after a reinstall I just say no. I don't know if you can disable it.

You have to say a few times 'no'. That's what helped me.

Click the Options menu - F5 (as if you were going to save or edit town)

Select Options

Select General Settings (third tab from left)

The forth option down on the left hand side is "enable lessons*.  It will have a tick on the left.  Click the tick to remove it.

I thought there was a difference with lessons and the starting tutorial? Because lessons are the ones that pop up if you have a new EP and trying a new part of gameplay.

Katie, saying "No" to the pop-up will just terminate that section of the tutorial.  The next time you do something covered by the tutorial which you have not done before the pop-up will appear again.  So, for example, when you buy your first pet you will be asked if you want to know more about keeping pets. (I'm not sure what the wording is as I always dissable the tutorial (lessons) immediately after a factory reset or installing a new EP.) Disabling lessons in options stops the pop-ups for tutorial/lessons completely, not just for your current game, but, for all new game starts also.

I understand that, but when I mean tutorial, I mean the tutorial that comes when you install the Sims 3 base game for the first time. The tutorial makes you get a new household from the library or make one yourself. It then instructs you on what to do, so they are the basics of the game. You can then end the tutorial whenever you want by clicking on the '...' and then it says 'End Tutorial', or you complete the entire thing. When you end it, you are free to continue playing with your family. I know what lessons are, and I know that they come up when you for example get a job in the Journalism career for the first time ever. So I am 110% that I'm not getting these mixed up. And my first question was on the tutorial that you must end via '...'. If I had taken a photo, I can show you what I mean, but I don't. If you remember the VERY first time you opened Sims 3 and tried starting a new game, it would most likely force you into a tutorial, that's the one I mean.

And thank you guys for helping me, continuously clicking on "Exit Tutorial" ended it for me, as it didn't come up today.

Katie, I don't think it'll be over. Sorry. I have this issue. I mostly ignore it, because it can be remedied by going into Edit Game then back to the Game Setup.

I have a hunch that completing the tutorial will lock it away until you reset it, but I haven't tried it because the stuff is so basic it's boring.

That's a shame. I agree, the tutorial is boring because of its easiness. I have a faint memory of me completing it, but constantly having to check over what they were saying, since it didn't make the most sense or I wanted to do something else. But, thank you for sharing that, so the next time I have a lot of time available, I'll complete it if it still comes up.

If you really don't want to complete it, open options.ini (Documents > The Sims 3) in Notepad, then change this line:

enabletutorial = 1

1 means true, and 0 means false. So change the 1 to a 0, and it should work.

Thank you for for that, Seabody, but I'm not experienced whatsoever in fiddling with game codes.
