Oldest Sim?
« on: November 02, 2012, 09:15:23 AM »
Quite curious to know how old people's sims have lived to be; Currently in my Immortal Dynasty, the founder's wife, Agnes Crumplebottom is 126 days old, I got the feeling from reading Pam's dynasty where Christopher Steel lived to be 117 days old, that it was quite unusual for sims to make it to that age without any special circumstances (I read somewhere that the vegetarian trait, and having some points in athletic made sims live longer). Agnes isn't vegetarian, and doesn't have any points in athletic, she just spends her days sculpting or fishing :)

How old have your sims lived to be?

I had one sim live to be 104.

In my first legacy, there are still a few original townies who should've died by now. The Roomies household, for example, still has at least one of them stuck on elder.
The outside is quiet, but the inside is on full blast.

In my latest dynasty, I've had one person live to 130 and another live to 132.  Cathyknits had Christopher Steel live to be 152 in her Rivers Dynasty.  I think that's the longest I've ever heard of on normal gameplay.   Hope you don't mind me telling, cathy.  I'm always on the lookout for a household member that will break her record and it just hasn't happened yet.  One day.. maybe.

My record is 146.  She was an astronaut with supermaxed athletics.  She outlived two of her children and was flirting with one of her grandson's schoolfriends at a party when she finally keeled over.   This was in my legacy family, maybe 2 years ago now, and no-one since has come close.

I've often wondered how the game determines when Grimmy makes a visit - and I would guess it does some random probability calculation for each elder at the same time every day, adjusting the probability for any life-lengthening traits or achievements the Sim may have.

But in my dynasty attempt, Agnes left me wondering if there might be more to it than that.  She had finished the tasks the dynasty needed of her (portraits of the founder, a replicator full of Ambrosia, a pond stocked with deathfish), and in her final days, she was trying to complete her LTW.  I saw the "Expire" action appear in her queue while she was sitting at the computer working on the book that would complete her LTW.  It was after midnight, and the moment she completed that book, she stood up and went to Grimmy.  She was 92.

Watching that play out left me wondering whether the algorithm takes anything else into consideration, like allowing a Sim who is actively working on a wish to complete it before that bell tolls.  Since then, I've had several other Sims expire of old age, and it doesn't seem to matter what they are doing at the time.  My 2nd generation spouse made it to 112, even though he wasn't doing much toward the end, and the 3rd generation spouse was in her early 90s, despite still working as an Astronaut and working out frequently.

This thread reminds me to make a mental note to have the 6th generation of an Immortal Dynasty be a girl that takes an elder spouse, to make sure there is room in the house to bring in the final generation.

My longest-lived sim was 118 - he was athletic, but didn't have a job in the field nor had he completed marathon runner...he did end up maxing athletics and maybe one of the other challenges, but that's because he didn't have anything else to do at that point, and he'd usually hop on the treadmill if I left him alone. :P He did help with his grandkids, but he was also the mean-spirited type so I had to keep an eye on him - the main reason he was the heir in my legacy was because he was so much older than his two siblings (one of whom he outlived by about 2 weeks) and he got on quite nicely with the spouse I made just for him (though if I had Generations back then it could've been a different story since I caught him cuddling with one of his best friend's spouses...make that former best friend...*sigh*). Slate was certainly one of the most interesting sims I've had who just refused...to...die... Geez. At least he was nice to look at, even as an elder.

Agnes died this afternoon playing foosball with the 2nd Generations wife at 135 days old, oddly enough, she died within hours of Agnes, at 90 or so days old. Slate sounds like an interesting sim to play smartburn, I tend to shy away from mean or evil sims myself, every time I've played one they never do as they're told!

I posted a bit about this on my blog in June (so it may be a tad out of date, considering we've had at least Patches 1.39 and 1.42 during the time elapsed). It's relative to your game length.

Quote
WITHOUT MARATHON RUNNER SKILL CHALLENGE:

Short: 30%

Medium: 20%

Normal: 14%

Long: 6%

Epic: 3%

WITH MARATHON RUNNER

Short: 22.5%

Medium: 15%

Normal: 10.5%

Long: 4.5%

Epic: 2.25%

If the Elder is a Marathon Runner, the chance of death is multiplied by 0.75.

I didn't add in Vegetarian statistics, but I'm fairly sure that that's the only "natural" life extension method ("natural" implying no Elixirs, LTR's, Ambrosia, Life Fruit, etc)

I had a vegetarian who lived to be 104, but I was sort of expecting it...it'd be interesting to see what would've happened had I made her go jogging.

@Sarah1992, Slate gained the trait as a child since both his parents were at work as a toddler and he only learned one of the toddler skills at best...I had started grooming his younger sister as heir (who only learned 2 of the 3 toddler skills, but party animal seemed less problematic), but he aged up to YA the day after she aged up to child and so I just went with it. In some ways I think it worked out for the best, and I have a soft spot for him. But, I haven't fully tried evil yet myself for the same reason as you...same goes for grumpy and hot-headed. It will happen one of these days though.

RIP Agnes...

Madeline Moore from Hidden Springs lived to be 120. I think one time that she ate in town she had some magical effects from the bistro. It was odd. She lived so long I had to move her out of the legacy house to make room for kids. Best partying and dancing Sim I've ever seen.

I had three sims that lived that long.. Two were descendants of my premade sims, the one "youngest" was Magdalena Roos, who lived to she was 127 days old, so then it was Francesca Montebello to she was 133 days old.

My oldest sim was Thornton Wolff! ;D
He lived to he was 137 days old, haha. Morgana died in early in her 100s. Thornton outlived three of six children and a grandchild, actually! xD
Thornton became a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and great-great-great-grandfather. He became g-g-g-gram shortly before he died.

Thanks for the data, Seabody!  It verifies what I had expected.

From that base, I would expect another -% "probability of dying today" reduction for Vegetarians.

The other question, then, is when the game starts those daily calculations.  I had assumed it would start on day 90, but I feel like I've heard other players report their sims dying of old age below age 90.

I had one live to be 155, not athletic nor a vegetarian. The youngest was 89. She was a townie married into the family.

I'm not sure about factoring in Vegetarianism for the chance, I'd need to dig a bit more into the XML's to find that. As for your second question, I have a feeling it's either defined in the C++ files (of which I could only read about four lines :P ) or it's relative to the game's aging years (which go into decimal points depending on the Aging length).

The oldest I've had was about 110, he lived to see his grandson get married (he died the day after). His name was Jeffrey.

The youngest I've had was 100, he was Jeffery's son-in-law.
