I did this for awhile after I got my PC game. I made my guy look like the typical California hippie. San Francisco is full of street performers of all kinds, many of whom are homeless. I gave my guy a guitar and the virtuous trait, so he could learn to play for tips quickly.  I gave him the mooch trait so that in a bind, he could beg. I gave him the insane trait so that he could talk to himself and keep his social meter up and I think that provides a bit of fun as well. He can also rumage in the garbage with that trait.  And I gave him a dog. Lot's of homeless people have dogs.

His dog is a mutt of husky breeding and he has what would be very typical traits for a husky, that of adventurous, independent and friendly. Husky type dogs would take well to the wandering lifestyle. They love roaming around with or without their humans.

My guy lived in a park by a pond for a long time, used the public restrooms, didn't bath very often. He played his guitar in town until he was discovered by a famous rock star.

This is fabulous, and possibly just enough to get me back into playing Sims.  I love the concept.

Donatello, hugs and kudos.

What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

I just re-read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen again. It made me wish we could make this more realistic. I have always loved those kind of survival stories. Do you know if the adult in a house dies, will the teen be taken by social services?

No, the teen doesn't go to social services. I tried it myself, and forced the elderly lady to age, and the teenager was left alone with her brother, who was only a toddler. I found it challenging, but I quite enjoyed it.

No, he/she won't. I've played a house of two teens and a horse before. And this was AFTER I killed the adult. As long as your sims can have a part time job, your sims can raise kids, live on their own, ect, ect.

I always start my self sim as a teen alone, I saved her as a teen to the bin in edit town sometime last year, although the game wont let you create a family without an adult it lets you save them to the bin okay.

Curfew is a pain if you are trying not to use your lot as a home and just move around town, but on the other hand there's nobody to tell you off when the police take you home, still get the caught after curfew moodlet but no scoldings.

Oh I forgot about the dumb old curfew. Well I will just make a mountain on his home lot with the hollow for his sleeping bag and he will go back to it each night.

That's another area where I liked TS2 way better than TS3. TS3 has a lot of forced actions like curfew. In TS2 I started many sims off as teens, got them through the hard years of living alone, then off to college, and on with their career after that.

This seems like it would be so legit to do!
I'm going to give it a try.

Do you have any tips on traits that I could use? I read the first ones, but I'm just wondering if any others would do well :)
Please and thank you!

Slob. Slob. Slob. It's one of the best traits because he/she won't care if he/she it smelly.

So I am playing a homeless Sim and found the rules on page one... it would be great to have them stickied and modified for newer expansion packs (ie: have a werewolf + tiberium = rich by end of day one.... so maybe not allowed?)

Of course I understand these rules were made by someone else, but perhaps we need a 'Carls forum' version of the rules?

I'm going to try it!

:)

When I did this, I gave my sim the unlucky trait so that they didn't need food. It was fun to see her keep dying :P

I've decided to play the homeless sim and I've never done any challenge before.  Can I assume that the aging must be on and at the normal setting.  That's what I've done, but if it's different please let me know.  Thanks
