It wasn't this homeless sim that happened to, well it was this sim but not this game, I just tend to start on an empty plot.

I'm not doing this as an official challenge just using the rules for my self sim, and I always start her as a teen so curfew drives her back to her 'home' or patch of weeds as that's what it is at the moment. Had a lot of visitors though, odd as when I have a house nobody visits.

So far she's collected quite a few seeds and a couple of space rocks and gems but I think she'll have to finish school before I can really get any money, she decided she wants a perfect garden after all this seed collecting, I locked it as it's not a career wish just can't register as self employed for it.

Henrietta Homeless is my first ever "Homeless" Sim, started today.  She sleeps in Central Park where she can get up,catch and cook her fish and chip breakfast, pop across the road to the gym for a shower and whatever, then face the day.

I always start my sims on a vacant lot, but now because of my experience with the nicked tent, my first purchase is always a single wall section and an alarm which I mount on the section.  (Obviously I could not do this with Henrietta, that would be cheating.  But, I do have her planting and tending seeds on the lot as this is permitted under the "homeless" rules.)

I loved the idea of a cheap and cheerful burglar alarm for tents and sleepiing bags, Donotello, made me smile.  Simoleaon wise, when compared to other game items the alarm is quite expensive.  Though, I think it is more a case of the other items are too cheap.

PS:  Its week 2, day 1 and Henrietta has 2, 669 simoleons and a not very impressive 49 points.  However, she has purchased a guitar and is nearly at level 5, so playing for tips should push her points and cash up rapidly.

Hmmm.

Is there any restrictions on which lifestates you can play?

I believe this was before the vast majority of life states where available, but it says no lifestate restrictions. I'm playing this with a witch.

In my game it's week 2 day 4, my Sim adopted a toddler, who is a child now, I caked him up. Child is easier than toddler, my Sim has §295.00, but she has some nice stuff. She has gardening, alchemy and fishing at level 4. Charisma is at level 3. I'm using alchemy to benefit her, not really for money. She has guiter skill, I guess I should train her in it. I've bought stuff in buydebug, but it was all bought with her money, that she earned. Stuff like shower in a can or a WA chest can be very helpful.

If you up the rules to "total social rejection" - no access to gym or fire station, etc., and no growing anything on home lot, and no traveling, and walking everywhere (no taxi rides),no money whatsoever, nor showering, and no visiting people, you might get a feel for what it's really like, to some minor degree. 13 years ago I was unfortunate enough to be dumped into just that.

Would taking the brave trait eliminate the possibility of being robbed and the need for a burglar alarm?  Especially if you add some athletic / martial arts skill.

It sounds like a fun challenge - I might try it sometime.

I agree, donatello.  The conditions you listed would make it much more realistic, and considerably harder.  I guess it depends on how much of a challenge people want.

I would highly recommend getting a fire pit and fishing. Roasting a fish will full hunger to the max, feeding Sims this way is easy. I used minnows to feed them. In the rules it states it's OK to put a pond, so I did. A fire pit is also useful for light and warming your Sim, so it's a really nice object. You can also roast harvestables to feed your Sim, I like fish better.

Does roasting fish and veggies on the fire pit grant a "good meal" moodlet, or just fill the hunger bar?

It just fills the hunger bar, but the Sim being homeless that's all they can do. It's easy, I bought 80 Alley Catfish for §480.00, so my Sims will have food for awhile.

Don't you have to catch the fish yourself? I thought that was in the rules.

Don't you have to catch the fish yourself? I thought that was in the rules.
Spending Money:
You are only allowed to purchase things you can store in your inventory, like a guitar or fire pit for example. You cannot purchase chairs for the fire pit if you choose to buy one.

Eating:
''You are only allowed to eat fish or harvestables (whatever is in your Sim’s inventory). You can only eat your fish if it is cooked, so you can use a stove in someone’s house (or on a community lot if you can find one) to cook it. You can also mooch food off another Sim. Your Sim can’t eat in any restaurants, because you are not wanted there.''

This is all it says about eating and spending money, I've had my Sims eat at the fire station, but there are no rules forbidding it. The fish can be cooked without a stove, using a fire pit.
Edit: I might also have my Sim buy links, which makes sense because the fire pit is like a camp fire in a way.

This sounds like a great project idea, I've never tried a (truly) homeless Sim.  I've started dirt poor but always added a washroom to the lot, etc  Maybe I'll try this one!

Sounds like enough interest in it, perhaps it could be an official project?

I'm testing my homeless legacy challenge. I started with that challenge and worked out some of some of the grey areas.

In, mine you can only eat what you catch or grow. The firehouse is used as a shelter in my rules. It's off limits at all times except Sat 6PM - Sun 6PM. Sims must meet certain criteria to earn their stay.

Since mine is a legacy , the ultimate goal is to have 10 generations of Sims with the family trait of mooch. If you have have homeless celebrity Sim it's quite easy to reach 20,000 between gifts/opportunities ::)

I started playing a fairy in Moonlight Falls.  The Elixir shop is awesome, food grows in the back, you can sleep in the rocking chair and get a bonus moodlet from the warm fire, practice alchemy skills collect bugs etc.  I bought a fairy home (since you can in fact carry it around in personal inventory) but I'm trying not to use it (since it satisfies just about everything).  So far sleeping on the rocker is great.  I have the trait Mooch (just like Dreamweaver) and might make a legacy type challenge with 10 generations of mooches living off everything and everybody else!
