My favorite career is the Ambitions' Architectural Design Profession. I love getting to know all the sims I work for and redesign their house. It is harder to do Professions though, rather than rabbithole jobs just because they are time consuming. But I like a good challenge, so I usually make my sim a painter/writer/architect.

I would make a bet that a lot of what career choices we perfer is connected to playing a single sim to a family one and if you are planning on doing a personal dynasty.

I play all of mine with the main concept of having a family that will continue to at the least seven generations, and most 12 generations.
Playing a single sim, with the goal to reach a certain level and then see it as the end is way different from when I play a game with the goal to find a mate, raise a family and see that family continue on for several generations.  Looking ahead to what traits the offspring need to do a career that I chose for them; whether it is self-employed or a rabbit hole.
The expansions make it more fun by giving a wider variety of careers that I can have offspring try and if I don't like it I can change their wish or let them live off the family income, one is just $1,000 away from millionaire. Fifth generation will be coming soon, and I had to add a third floor to the mansion.

I really like the Culinary career, too. The fridge is a great reward, and I just have so much fun skilling in cooking and have a fridge full of all different kinds of food, especially the new foods from EPs. Medical is fun as well - the giant green syringe they use for vaccination clinic cracks me up everytime!

Self-employed is growing on me, but I feel like the higher promotions can be really hard to get so I get a little discouraged sometimes. I do like the freedom in the schedule and less dependence on mood, or at least the ability to fix mood a little easier as the day goes by.

I agree with Janna, my favorite careers definitely change if I'm playing a single Sim or a large multi-generational family. It can really depend on strategy and whether they need money immediately or if the long-term payoff is more important.

Autumn Morning, the self-employed, all but writer, can be maxed very quickly if you have WA (and are not limitted in days by a dynasty).  Just get your sim a vacation home and paint, make necter, etc. while on vacation.  For writing, go abroad and choose to write a masterpiece.  Write until approximately 95% complete.  Complete when you get home.

As for favourite career, the fridge from cooking is a must have for me, but for interest, I like nectar making, and trying out different combinations.  Place in the cellar in the most expensive rack and the value increases very rapidly.  make with 6 life fruit, 3 flame fruit and 1 chermila blan grapes and you get a super tonic mix for great happiness points each time it is drank.

Wai, that is a good idea. I had not thought of that. Unfortunately, I'm working on overcoming a travel bug in my legacy family at the moment, so they won't be able to take advantage of it right away. Thanks!

I have a tendency to always make my sims artists or writers, preferably with the illustrious author LTW.

I would have to say I like the combination of gardening and cooking. I enjoy the micromanagement of the gardening - bringing plants along until they are perfect quality - then using them to get perfect meals. Once they are supermaxed, fishing is generally the next to move along. But somehow, no matter how I start, or what the traits might be, sooner or latter I wind up gardening... can't resist it.

Initially, I loved the Private Investigator :) It was all I would play for ages.  Because of the limit on possible mysteries, however, it got boring over time :/

I tend to avoid the careers with Charisma - it's my least favourite skill, only because of its time-consuming nature.  At the moment, I'm quite partial to Professional Athlete and the Science one, because they're relatively easy to finish.  My immortal dynasty is proving quite tedious, and I need easy jobs :)

My favorite career is Painter and I just love to paint lots of still lifes and memorized scenes. Next to that would be the Writer career and I enjoy inventing all sorts of titles for books whose plots may have happened in any of the Sim towns.

I love self-employed professions because you dont have to worry about them missing work.

I find being self employed is more practical for parents raising nooboos and toddlers.

I haven't tried many but out of the rabbit hole careers I enjoy Military because as an astronaut you only work one day a week and get to goof off the remained on wooing ladies and throwing parties to your pleasure, very convenient with seasons where you actually have time to go out and have fun at the parks.  Money is pretty dismal but you can do other hobbies in mean while such as inventing painting etc

I've been playing a firefighter and must say that career is quite enjoyable too. Of course, the income cannot compare to a money tree garden, or to what a painter or sculptor can make, but it's fun. It doesn't rob you of control like a rabbit hole career does, its activities are more varied than standing at an easel all day, and it's the only thing in the game that gives me a "hero" vibe. As a fan of heroic fantasy and duty-bound do-gooder characters, I find that to be right up my alley. ;)

Also, earning promotions is incredibly easy because anything that increases Handiness or Athletics also gives job experience, whether you're at work or not. I actually found that somewhat anti-climactic and am glad that my Fire Chief got her last promotion for taking care of a large house fire, and not for upgrading her mate's stove.

I love all of the professions, but Styling has to be my favorite. I love making Sims over and now my Sims can make money at it. I think it's so neat. I also love Architectural Design  ;D

For rabbit-hole jobs, for some reason I really like politics. I think it's because of throwing campaign parties. Apart from that, culinary's good. My family I've started in Monte Vista has two culinary Sims at the moment - my created sim married Gino Ferrari after meeting him at work.

For professions, maybe ghost hunting. I tried stylist but couldn't really get into it, I think because the way to do things "right" is a lot more opaque and I hate failing jobs.

And for self-employed, gardening or fishing. My favourite expansion in all Sims games has been the one that introduced gardening, so I was thrilled it came with the base game this time. The combination of gardening, fishing and cooking is one that I keep coming back to. Though I will say, I miss the juicer from Sims 2, having to get the ingredients for the different juicers. That was fun.
