How do you change their direction?  I looked into that, but didn't see how to do it.

You need to pick up the current building, place it back down on the same place and then the rotate ability pops up so that you can then line up the front of the building with the street.  I just tried this out in my testing game.

Also, if you want to add a new lot to the town, and want to adjust the facing exactly, hold down the ALT button along with the left mouse button and pivot the mouse to change the facing.  This will allow you to have the lot face in any direction, not just the 8 compass directions.

Thank you!! I knew there was a combo for doing this, but for the life of me couldn't remember what it was. Thanks for the refresher.  :)

I just realized that there is no Laundromat in Sunset Valley. It was not one of the buildings from Ambitions that appeared in the library. Is there a legitimate gameplay reason for not having it available to place in SV? Does one have to advance in the new real estate market to earn one, or something like that?

I was fiddling around with the new stores in Sunset Valley and realized that they are probably on their odd lots because of flatness.  I tried to put them on other lots around town and even made new lots, but they were all too hilly or sloped and it just didn't look right.  So, I just left them in their same locations and got them turned around right.

In Sunset Valley, I found the game had plopped the junkyard in the endmost lot at Pinocle Point. :o  Not acceptable!  After going to the sims 3 site and posting someone reminded me that in sims 3 you don't have to put lots next to the road.  I forgot this fact...now my junkyard is behind the stadium behind the stand of trees.  Sims have to run to get to it, but it was the most logical place in town. ;D

Can someone please describe how to put the Twinbrook laundromat in Sunset Valley?

OK, first you need to go into (or create) a Twinbrook game.
Go into Edit Town and click on the laundromat. Select the button that says 'save copy to library' click OK.
Go back to the main menu and select your Sunset Valley game and again enter Edit Town.
Find a place to put your laundry (it will need a spot at least 15 x 30). If there is nowhere to put it, you can place a new empty block somewhere (in testing this, I put a block out near the stadium) To do this, click the world Editor button (next to the bulldozer button) and select a block size to use. There is no 15 x 30, so you will have to use at least the 20 x 30 block. Place this empty block where ever you want it.
Still in edit town, click on the new empty block and hit the change lot type button then select community. Then use the drop down menu to select the type and highlight laundromat.
Now select the 'show community lots' tab and you should see a copy of the Twinbrook laundromat there. Click it and place it on your newly placed empty block.
And all going well, it should then be functional in game.

These instructions can be used for placing any community lot from one town to another, you just need to remember to select the correct type of lot when you change it to a community lot.

Hope these instructions are helpful

Thank you! I didn't realize the libraries from one town would show up in another town. I think I'll move that gorgeous community garden from Twinbrook too!

You may want to do this the other way around, that is put the laundromat on the (community) lot first, then change the type of lot in the drop down menu. At least in my game it switches to lot type to "no visitors" whenever I place a new building, so I have to adjust the lot type after placement.

No, can't do that. I have to change the lot to community lot AND select what type of lot it is to be before I can continue. If I don't pick something from the drop down menu, I can only back out of the action, I can't OK it.

Thanks for mentioning that. I went back and checked, and it had set it to "no visitors" despite what I'd already set it up as. It was easy to switch back.
