Question about items
« on: October 25, 2012, 12:33:33 AM »
So I have a nice house in the Sims 3, large family, enough money.

So now I want to start doing something in the game, and I want to collect every item in the game that you cant get from the buy/build, such as gems, nectar, etc. But I don't know many of the items and how to get them. All I really know is nectar and gems which I don't even know how to get the gems. And I do know about the fridge you can get after getting 10 in culinary career.

My question is, what items do your sim have to actually buy somewhere in the game or find or earn?
Also about gems, say I have two of the same gems and cut them the same will they be worth the same or is it random how much each gem is worth? And what's the easiest way to get gems?

Also, I have all expansion packs.

Welcome to the forums!

Gems can be found throughout the world, or buying them at the consignment store. Nectar can be made by buying a nectar maker in France, or from buydebug. I'm not sure about the same cut being the same price, I've never paid that close attention to that, but hopefully someone can tell you for sure on that. Easiest way to get them would be to have a martial artist break space rocks, or get the lifetime reward Collection Helper. It's 40,000 lifetime happiness points.

Thanks for the quick answer. How would I get space rocks to break?

I think gem prices are randomized within a certain range. For breaking space rocks, you have to learn martial arts skills.

You could collect magical gnomes too. I love those little guys. Just make sure you keep them in your inventory or they might wander off and disappear.

When your martial artist is breaking boards, you will have the option of what to break (boards or space rocks).

Welcome to our Forum, ixiboneheadixi.

The questions you're asking are actually quite complicated.  There are so many things that can be done in The Sims 3 that they can't really all be addressed in one topic.  Have you looked through Carl's Sims 3 Guide?  You might find some information there that's useful.

For example, you will find information about gems here.  But it doesn't stop there.  In addition to searching for uncut gems on the ground, you can also get them through breaking space rock block, as already mentioned.  To do that, your Sim needs to travel to China and learn Martial Arts.  You'll also need to purchase a training dummy and a board breaker at the General Store.  When your Sim gets to a high level in Martial Arts and has completed Timber Terminator skill journal challenge, he'll start to get gems when he breaks a space rock.  So you see, it's not an easy answer for anything, and I've probably even missed something about gems in my description.

My best suggestion is to look through the Guide and browse the Forum to see what interests you, then when you have something specific in mind and need help with it, start a topic on the Miscellaneous Help board if you can't find exactly the information you're looking for.  :)

Gems are random in value, within a specific range.  However, when cutting them the value of the final gem is rather predictable.

There is a very helpful guide to gem value after cutting in the "The Sims 3 Guide".  Click on the link above, select Skills from the menu, then collecting, then Gems.

Actually, almost everything you might want to know about collecting is covered in the artical indicated above.

Collecting everything should keep you busy for quite some time.  Breaking space rocks, after you have mastered martial arts can yield a lot of gems.  All sorts of collectables can be optained with the miner (available from inventing or occassionally found for sale in the consignment store).  I find this is the best way to find all the space rocks, although, the finds from mining are random.)

Gems, metals and relics to complete the relic collections can be found in the relic store in the market, though the availability is random with rare relics turning up only very occassionally.

Actually, the second link in my post goes straight to that article.  ;D

I think they are only supposed to wander around your lot, but people are complaining about gnomes missing, so better keep them in the inventory where they cant goof around.

Thanks for the replies. So about my other question though, is there any other items you can only earn/buy/find in game other than the collectible items? Such as the fridge you get from maxing out your culinary career.

Oh, yes.  Many things (click for list).

Also, I'm moving this to the Miscellaneous Help board.

Many careers have rewards, some just one, others several.  Maxing each career is the only way to get all the career achievemrnt rewards.  Most of these have no value or function, unlike the fridge from the cooking career, they are simply decorative.

There are also career related books which you may, or may not get during your time in the career.  In cooking there is "Secrets of the Master Chef.  Other careers, such as Army and music have several each.  You may have to put more than one sim through the career to get them all.  But, as far as I know there is not a finite list of these books, so you have no way of knowing if you have them all.

If anyone has a finite list of these books it would be great to see it.

Thank you SimFreeek,

With that list, I'm wondering about challenging myself to obtain every single book available as a career reward!
