Can Sims Create New Recipes?
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:06:22 AM »
Whenever I have a Sim with the fishing skill leveling up, they get a wish to cook something with the fresh caught fish.  Like a gold fish or something.  The way the wish is stated, it sort of implies that the Sim can create a new recipe for the fish, but I haven't been able to figure that out.  The only thing I can think of that grants the wish is to make sushi or fish and chips using the particular fish.  In my case, they have so many fish that it's nearly impossible to use that one kind of fish unless I delete every other fish in the inventory and the refrigerator.  Does anyone have ideas about this?

Yeah, you can grill specific fish using the portable fire pit I believe. It's something that could be for a family activity -- take the grill to the lake, catch some fish and serve up dinner.

I've actually tried that and roasted a gold fish, which my Sim then ate.  But it didn't satisfy the wish of wanting to cook a recipe using gold fish.

It seems to be a crappy wish because there is no way to select a specific type of fish to be used for most recipes (Grilled Salmon being the only exception I can think of).  My Sims don't seem to consider the value of an ingredient when cooking stuff.  I've ended up with Life Fruit Pancakes, which while delicious, were hardly what I would have preferred.

So, aside from moving all other fish out of the chill chest and inventory, it seems you're destined to be in for a wait.

That's basically what I decided, too.  I just haven't found anything that lets a Sim create a custom recipe.  I've now gone through and sold anything that is less than perfect quality, too.  All the food stored in the refrigerator that will be used in preparing meals is perfect quality.  Only perfect fruits and vegetables will be planted, too.  I'm curious to find out how much of an impact it will have on the quality of the meals and the quality of the fish caught with perfect bait.

It needs to be tested whether the Sims prefer to get food from the inventory or fridge first (unfortunately it could be both, like whatever the last fish or first fish you caught was). Might be easy if we could just move the one kind of fish to the fridge.

Hi...whenever I have a sim who has that wish, I always delete it.  There are a lot of times they wish to make a meal out of a black goldfish, goldfish, blowfish, stuff that really doesn't make any sense.  ::)
Most of the time, they are impulsive lil creatures and only wish for things impossible after they finish doing something, i.e. after going steady, wanting to move in with b/f.  ::)  I treat this the same as the wishes for the dumb wish for wanting to cook blowfish, I delete it.  :D

I had this problem too, Pam, so thanks for bringing it up!
Also, along the lines of the fridge stock/inventory stock, do you guys actually buy the groceries to make recipes, or just click on the fridge and then the recipe, eg. make pancakes ($11)? Is there much of a price difference?

I buy my ingredients at the store or just grow/catch them.  I believe Carl said it's more expensive to buy the ingredients at the time you make the meal.

Stu Surprise uses like everything, so that might be a good way to see if you use the correct fish.  Or move every other fish to another sim.

If I have enough time on my hands and there's little food in my inventory or refrigerator, I drop everything (time consuming) and the recipe will automatically choose the things in your inventory to use to cook (if it's the right one, of course).  Other than that, it's pure chance.

The randomness of ingredients taken from the fridge is terrible!  My Sims were asked to bring 2 crocodiles from Egypt to France once.  They went and caught them, put them in the fridge in their Sunset Valley home temporarily while they were waiting to be able to travel again, and somehow before they went to France, the crocodiles were cooked in dim sum. =(

That is funny ;D... but tragic :'(
I've come up with a plan :)
I have two fridges (because I'm spoiled and rich), One in the kitchen and one in the living room. I keep everything that I NEED in the living room fridge and for the materials I need to look, I put in the kitchen fridge.

I tried buying two fridges to avoid using things I didn't want in food but it didn't work. When I put something in one fridge it also appears in the other one like they're just a portal to the big Master Fridge in the Twilight Zone. :o :D
