Locking Doors?

So I play the sims 3 I have no expansions and so I was wondering is I could still lock my doors because I click and click but nothing comes up... Could someone help I've even tried Ctrl Shift click

You should be able to lock doors, I would have thought. Have you tried on different types of doors? I do know that in one game I was unable to lock some gates but I don't think I ever found out if that was a bug or not.

Its been in every game I played. I just can;t get the menu up.

Lucie, are you doing this in Live Mode?  (Not from Build or Buy Modes)  I've never had a problem locking doors, so I'm wondering if the problem might be that you've been trying to do it in Build or Buy Mode.

I've tried both it won't work in either one

I would suggest getting rid of it and buying another one. I've had things do that to me, they where suppose to work and didn't, I got a new one and it worked fine after that. I would also suggest maybe resetting it first, you Ctrl Shift Click, then click reset.

Let's start at the beginning and make sure you're doing everything correctly. 

1.  You must be in Live Mode, which means you're playing the game and not building or buying anything.
2.  Have a Sim selected (not a pet).
3.  With the selected Sim, click on the door.
4.  You should get the option to Lock the door and how exactly you want it locked.

Do exactly these steps and tell us exactly what happens.

A big nothing it says the usual cannot be selected.

Not to spam you with a lot of questions, but....

Are they all the same door type? (i.e. Insta-door or what have you.) Perhaps that one particular door is bugged for you? OR, do you have custom content and/or mods? Are they the correct mods for your update version? Is it a custom content door?

Does your computer meet the minimum requirements for the game? (Who knows what weirdness will happen when it can't load completely....)

Barring those, have you tried clearing out your cache files, etc?

I don't use mods but I decided to reinstall and low and behold it works now Thank you everyone for your help:)
