Music Career Opportunity

I have a sim in the music career who recently had an opportunity to go Egypt, where he was supposed to earn $1000 playing for tips.  So Ludwig played in the centre square all day.  Nobody even came to watch, and he earned not a single simoleon.  I wondered if he would have better luck at base camp, so he played there the next day.  Same result - he really raised his guitar skill, but no tips at all.  I couldn't think of any other place for him to play.  Has anyone managed to complete this opportunity?  What did I do wrong?

You did not do anything wrong, personally, I just get rid of that opportunity when I get.  I do not think many people have had too much luck with getting tips in the foreign countries. This has been going on from the very beginning.

Forget tip playing in foreign places, Dianne. It is isn't worth it. There just isn't the numbers of Sims to support it.

Thanks for the responses.  It's always good to know that others have had the same experience - makes me feel a little less frustrated by my failure.  The fact that nobody even turned up to watch makes me wonder, though:  what do those foreign sims do all day?  None of them have jobs, except for the merchants.  One of the great mysteries.

They are there only to send you on adventures!  Or spar with you in China.    Pretty sweet deal if your job is to relax until some adventurer shows up saying "Now what?"

I think you're right.  Unfortunately, some of them must be so bored they are turning to crime.  In the Wishmaster Challenge recently, one of my sims didn't return home after a trip to France.  She showed up in the other sims' relationship panels as being a resident of France.  One of them invited her as a foreign visitor and after much socializing, finally got her to move back into the household.  But everything in her inventory was gone - all the fish and bait, the books she had written, a guitar, and (sigh) the Collection Helper - even the Food Replicator that had been in the family inventory.  Now, stealing stuff from my sims' inventory is just plain not acceptable!

Maybe if you will stay there for weeks or so you will eventually get $1000,- at the end. But like others have said already, there are so few people living there, and even less people are willing to listen to your sim, it simply isn't worth the reward of the oppertunitie, whatever that may be btw.
My sim has once this oppertunitie, but I get rid of it in the future.
