Sunset Valley School Dormitory 30X40 Residential lot

Okay, teenager sims got on my nerves and I thought, "How cool would it be if the school in Sunset Valley had a dorm and I could just send the kids away to live in the dorm.

I know. I'd make a lousy parent in real life. lol

Anyway, that's what gave me the idea for this.

I built it right next to the school after moving what ever was there out of the way. I tried to match the architecture of the school as closely as I could with the sidings, windows and roof tiles available.

As you can see below, it's not that close but it's the best I could do.

First thing you'll see after entering the front door is the mess-hall.

Now since no household can consist solely of children I had to have at least one adult so I made an old bitty named Agnis Crabtree and I just think of her as the, I don't know, Dorm Mother or what ever. I've never gone to a private school myself so I don't know what that position would be called but that satisfies the one adult thing.

Her bedroom is the one to the left of the mess-hall up there.

The bedroom to the right of the mess-hall was for the butler I hired to do the cooking but the poor butler was cooking around the clock only occasionally passing out between meal preparations and I didn't really like the lack of control of the hired butler since hired butlers aren't part of the household so I Nrass-ed him and made him part of the household.

The biggest problem I had with the mess-hall was traffic flow. When I was testing this I had sixteen kids and the two adults in the household, not quite full to capacity but enough to make the place pretty lively (There are enough beds to accommodate twenty six students and two adults.) so come meal time the mess-hall got jammed up pretty good. Lots of foot stomping and complaining about other students not getting out of the way.

That's when I came up with the replicator Idea. You can see the kitchen is just a two tile wide strip at the back of the mess-hall separated from the mess-hall by a flat-top half-wall with a gate in the middle locked to everyone but the cook.

And outside that half-wall a bank of four food replicators and four dishwashers.

This made the cooks job much easier. All the cook has to do now is keep the replicators full and the students can feed themselves when ever they get hungry without bothering the cook or making a mess of the kitchen. The downside is that sims don't use replicators autonomously. You have to pay attention to their hunger level and direct them to eat as needed.

Next stop on our little tour is the top floor seen below...

Up here is kind of the community area. A tv room, a rec-room and an exercise room and a little bit of a balcony.

Now we'll go down a floor...

Each room has two beds and two desks to do their homework at (not that they aren't perfectly content to just sit on the floor any old place and do their homework on the floor) and a book shelf. I put two doors on each room so that each door could be locked "To everyone but me" for each sim in that room. That keeps them out of each others rooms.

There are two elevators and two stairways. One each at each end of the building.

You probably noticed the restroom in the middle there. Here's a closer look at that...

There are eight toilet stalls, eight sinks and nine showers. That should be more than enough. It's doubtful that many will ever need to use it all at the same time.

Last stop on our tour is the basement..

a.k.a. the Library. The basement Library was an after thought and as any builder will tell you, If you want to have stairs in your basement they absolutely MUST go in first. That's why the elevators are the only way in and out of the basement. Oh well.

Anyway. Here it is. The School Dorm. Enjoy. :)

P.S. Requires Late Night, World Adventurer and Ambitions.

I like it! I might even use it the next time I play the project, College Daze.
