I feel sorry for Mary, she looked so hurt. Nameless is so clueless! I just hope Mary will accept him when he realizes she is the one.

What's a jaffa?

Delicious. It can be sickly if you eat too many, but they're really nice otherwise. They're sold in small boxes in Theatres here, though I'm not sure about what happens over the ditch (Australia).

Nameless, Family-Oriented? I admit, I didn't see that coming. I expected something more alarming, like Mean-Spirited. :P

The Pain of Heartbreak?

Diary Entry

I had been rejected before, by my ex-wife, so I knew the pain that was coming.  I just hoped I would be strong enough this time to not give up and try to drown my sorrows in nectar.  Stunned by what I had just seen, I stumbled over to a picnic area and collapsed.

But there were too many people in Central Park for me to think properly, and besides, Holly or Goodwin might notice me and come over to share their good news.  I didn't think I was up to facing them just yet.  So I found a lonely stretch of beach where I could walk and be alone with my thoughts.

I trudged along, scarcely aware of my surroundings, wondering how I could have been such a blind fool as to not notice Holly and Goodwin's growing attraction for one another.  Stupid, to think that someone as special as Holly could possibly be interested in me with all my baggage and imperfections.  And now here I was, once again left alone with a broken heart.  Oh yes, these feelings were familiar to me.  A heart that feels like it's been ripped in two.  Feelings of desolation, inutterable loneliness and unbearable loss.  Pain - deep, searing pain at the very core of my being.

... but where were those feelings?  I didn't understand it, but none of those feelings seemed to be present.  How could this be?  Nobody could ever have accused me of being a new age guy - you know, the in-touch-with-his-feelings type of fellow.  I had spent most of my life ignoring my feelings, if not actively finding ways to deaden them.  I walked alone down the beach, trying to understand what I was feeling.

What did I really feel for Holly?  Was I in love with her?  When I asked myself this question and really thought about it, I realized that the answer was no.  Oh, I loved Holly, to be sure, but my feelings toward her were more those of an older brother.  I wanted to protect her, to keep her safe, I wanted her to be happy.  Seeing her with Goodwin hadn't broken my heart.  I felt a little sad, but it came to me that it was more the sadness of realizing that our days of adventuring together were over.  Holly and Goodwin were moving on, to a new stage in their lives.  Soon I would be part of their past.  This made me feel sad, nostalgic, but not at all broken-hearted.

And I felt sad that my dream of happiness had been just an illusion.  What a fool I had been, rushing off to get my Family Oriented trait.  For all the good it would do me.  Some people are just meant to be alone, I reflected sadly, and clearly I was one of them.

All this emotion had worn me out.  I felt old, tired and useless as I turned toward home.

I arrived home to find Mary standing on the sidewalk, surrounded by trunks and suitcases, looking impatiently down the street.

I wondered what was going on.  Did we have visitors?  Mr Payne was the only out-of-town visitor we'd ever had, and he never seemed to have any luggage.  I asked Mary what was going on.

"Oh, that taxi is so slow today!" she exclaimed in exasperation.

I asked if she was going somewhere - a vacation, maybe?

Mary said no, she wasn't going on vacation.  "I'm leaving - going home," she said.  "The mission is over.  You and Holly will want to be alone.  There's no reason for me to stay.  Where can that taxi have got to?"

Mary was leaving?

Hmm -- Nameless has a big task ahead of him. Does he tell Mary about Holly and Goodwin and then propose?

After Mary leaves then nameless will probably realize then, but It will be too late. :(
I like how realistic it seems, someone could actually be in a situation like this, Don't let mary go nameless!!!

Go on, Nameless! Tell her about Holly and Goodwin! Realize that your true feelings are with Mary! And hurry up, too. Mary's taxi might actually get there.
