Freaks, Revelations, and a Decision

Diary Entry

I invited the Freaks over for a small dinner party to celebrate the end of Evil in Sunset Valley.  Mary prepared her vegetarian lobster thermidor and I persuaded the Freaks to show their "before" pictures of them in their Freak disguises and the "after" pictures as they really were.

"Waggles" as he had been called was barely recognizable in his transformation:

Hilde had never allowed me to see her full disguise but I persuaded her to do so:

It was hardly surprising the poor girl had chosen to spend as little time as possible in that get-up.  I gasped when I saw the exotic beauty she had been concealing under that disguise.

"Froggy" as she had been known was so taken with the picture I snapped of her that she left with it after the party, leaving only this group shot showing her from the back (with the dark hair).  But when the frog mask was removed, she was just as lovely as her friend.

SimBoth couldn't stay long at the party but I managed to catch before and after snaps of him as he dashed off to another engagement.

After dinner, Mary and I were dancing together, when she surprised me by saying, "You're very fond of Holly, aren't you?"

Well, of course I was fond of Holly!  Who wouldn't be?  But Mary seemed to have something else on her mind:  "I mean, you and Holly have been getting very close.  Now that she's all grown up, are you thinking of getting married again?"

Married?  Me?  Out of the question!  I reminded her of my previous marriage that had ended in disaster, and did she think I was crazy enough to want to repeat that experience?  No, I told her, some people just aren't meant to be married, and I was sure I was one of them.

Then Mary said, "Well, of course that marriage failed!  The two of you were totally unsuited to each other!"

Aha, said I sarcastically, she's finally getting it!  Wasn't that what I had just been saying - I wasn't husband material?  Any woman would have found me unsuited to her, and I knew it.

Mary rolled her eyes.

"How can men be so dense!" she exclaimed.  "Do you mean to tell me you didn't realize your wife, in addition to being Ambitious and Mean-spirited, was also Evil?  The two of you were as different as chalk and cheese!  Don't you remember her complaining about your Good trait?"

Now that she mentioned it, I did remember my ex-wife complaining about my goodness.  But she was always complaining about something, and I didn't really listen to any of it.  So she was Evil and I was Good?  Was that why we didn't ever get along?  And how was it that I hadn't noticed?  I said lamely to Mary that I hadn't been very observant in those days.  But how did Mary know so much about my ex-wife?

"When Mr Payne commissioned that portrait of your daughter, he met your ex-wife," Mary said.  "He told me about her.  I think it's a miracle you managed to stay together long enough to have a daughter."

"So, you see," she finished up, "just because that marriage didn't work doesn't mean that you shouldn't get married again.  It wasn't your fault.  Nobody could have made that marriage work.  But if you're interested in Holly, you need to make up your mind.  Because Holly's a beautiful young woman.  She won't stay single long.  If you don't grab her, someone else will."

I was stunned by what Mary had told me.  It hadn't been all my fault that my marriage had ended?  I wasn't a total failure as a husband?  I went through the rest of the party in a daze, preoccupied by my thoughts.  By the end of the evening I knew what I was going to do.  The guests left sometime after midnight, I said goodnight to Mary, and went upstairs to my bedroom.  But not to bed.  I spent some time gazing at the portrait of my daughter.

Then I crept downstairs to check on Mary.  She was sound asleep in her little fairy house.  Good.

I snuck out of the house unobserved, caught a taxi and left.

Where is Nameless going?! I hope it's to tell Holly it just isn't going to wok between them and he'd rather just be friends, because he loves Mary. No wonder Nameless marriage didn't last! Poor Guy, I hope he gets to see his daughter again and then have custody over her because his wife isn't a good mother.

Poor Nameless, to have a evil wife. He must get his daughter away from her! I hope he is on his way to get her.

Agree!  Saving little girl from evil mother takes precedence over getting some sweet romance action.

I don't think he's getting his daughter back, perhaps he's going to see Holly.

Holly would know a thing or two about rescueing daughters from Evil mothers, after all.  ;)

A) Fred is gonna get his daughter back. I just know it. B) He's not gonna do it alone...

Whatever I'm just angry about the cliffhanger argh. Just kidding.

...I'm sure whoever Nameless-who-better-get-a-name-soon will be happy no matter who is he with. As long as he gets his daughter back. Saying she's not evil by now!

Dear Friends,

I have been neglecting my other stories to focus on this one, and it's preying on my mind.  So I hope you won't mind too much if I don't post an update here today.  I will, however, be posting an update in the GO Treatment Centre thread, here, so perhaps I can interest you in checking out that thread today?  You may possibly find something of interest there.

Advertising one story in the pages of another?  Is there any depth to which I will not descend?  Apparently not.  Apologies for interrupting your reading with this bit of shameless self-promotion. ;)

Ah, Schip, I do love how you integrate your stories. Don't worry about the shameless self-promotion. I like to read a good update of any of your stories anytime. :) I have been following Nameless and lurking, as I am wont to do, and I'm glad to see that he has vanquished the Evil in Sundown Town at last.

What trait did he exchange Slob for?  Helpful in his future... Brave? Family-Oriented?  Ooooh can't wait.

Love how you did some (not-so) discrete advertising. Haha!

Hey you're plugging awesome stories so the commercial break isn't one of those dull "please get back to the story" deals! Can't wait to get to your other stories... But I'm doing it in order (with the exception of this one) so it could take a while.... But don't forget Fred (lol)
