Stupidity has done braver things before. It took guts for Simler's namesake to invade Russia before knocking out Britain, for example.

Of course those flippers don't look good on Nameless! He's not wearing the pink zebra print!  :P

Edit: What happened to Chapter 28?

...What happened to Chapter 28?

Yeah! Um, lol! Hey Audren, I'm sure it is a hidden chapter to reveal something happening elsewhere simultaneously. The thing about "mistakes" is that it is only misspelled version versions of "opportunities" and for sure we will be convinced by as great a writer as Schip :) I'm not being sarcastic.

I'd love to be able to confirm Donatello's creative and ingenious theory regarding the "missing" chapter, but the truth is I forgot to change the number when I posted the chapter before this one, so we wound up with two Chapter 27's.  I didn't notice until I posted this chapter and realized the numbering on my saved documents was different than the numbering here.  Sorry about that.  It's very observant of you to notice!  Although apparently nobody picked up on the two same-numbered chapters.  Probably you all noticed it and were just too polite to say anything, right?  ;)

Actually, I think the issue was with Mary's Story. Part 1 was Chapter 25. Your post heading for Part 2 says that Part 2 is Chapter 26, but this was not changed. As a result, each post afterwards is one chapter behind, except in your post headings. (Yeah, I just went back to figure this out. It intrigued me.  :P)

Holly is nice but she's no Mary.  It takes a lot of patience to take on a man with as much baggage as Nameless has.  I'm still with team Mary!

Isn't that the truth!!! Schip you could call the chapters 38, h75, 4b3 or whatever and the story would still be one of the best (if not THE best) out there!!!

They Know!

Diary Entry

So Mary and I set to work creating paintings for the art gallery.  We set up our easels outside where we could enjoy the fresh air and sunshine as we painted.  I asked Mary about her painting - why was it so monochromatic in tone, and what was that white discolouration on the roof of the house?

Mary replied that it was snow:  "Soon, very soon, we will have Seasons!  You'll see - snow will fall everywhere!"  Well, this sounded about as outlandish as the growing rocks and the non-melting ice.  But she had been proven right in both the previous instances, so I wasn't going to argue with her.  I would wait and see.  Meantime, I stuck to painting things I knew.  I hoped my picture of wild deer in a meadow would be a masterpiece, but sadly, it wasn't to be.

Then I received a very disquieting piece of mail.

It was on official City Hall letterhead and it read, "Lasers, adventuring through space, and discovering new planets where evil monsters may lurk are exactly what Vita Alto wants you to occupy your time with.  Write a Science Fiction novel for Vita Alto and you'll earn some money and your relationship will improve."*

This message made me very nervous on several counts.  First, how had Vita found out about my writing?  My publisher wasn't in Sundown Town, and none of my books were for sale at the local bookstore.  But it seemed that Vita had somehow found out that I wasn't just an itinerant musician subsisting on tips.  And why did the message state that Vita wanted me to occupy my time with evil monsters?  I could think of only one reason for her to send me a strangely-worded message like this - somehow, Vita had become wise to my mission in Sundown Town.  She knew that I was a writer.  She knew about my work against Evil.  And she was letting me know that she knew.  So what should I do?  If I wrote the book, wouldn't that be confirming her suspicions?  But the message clearly implied that only by writing the book could I hope to improve my relationship with her.  With deep misgivings, I sat down at my computer.

I sent a message by return mail saying that I would try to write a book but that it would take time as I wasn't very good at writing.  I hoped this would give me some time to figure out what to do.

And then, since it was Saturday and I needed a break, I headed downtown to my usual spot for a bit of busking.

A small crowd gathered to watch me perform.  Then one of my guitar strings broke, and as I was replacing it I overheard Silver Racket's strident tones.  She was saying to one of the other bystanders, "People are saying that Mary Fairy is actually an alien, living undercover in our neighbourhood."*

Chills ran down my spine.  How had Mary come under suspicion?  Silver was a member of the notorious and powerful Racket family, so if Silver knew about Mary's undercover mission, I had to assume that the rest of the Racket family did too.  Which meant that almost certainly, so did Vita, Simler, and the rest of the power elite.

With trembling fingers, I punched Mary's number into my phone.

It rang and rang.  Mary didn't answer.  I hoped she might be at home working on a painting or sculpture and just not answering her phone.  I was so anxious, I ran all the way home.

*These two events actually  happened.  Just as I was wondering how to write the next bit of the story, along came that opportunity for Nameless to write a book for Vita.  The only writing opportunity he's ever had.  I love it when the game gives me just what I need!  :D

So awesome... I'm feeling a bit jaded on the topic of whether Flintstone should or shouldn't write that book.
