It takes about 4 hours to upgrade. And since it's broken, add an hour for repair. So that's 5 hours. So let's say it breaks weekly (he's unlucky if I remember correctly, and he writes like a madman) that is §50 and half an hour every week. So after 10 weeks you could possibly have one less book written, worth, let's say, §250 x 6 weeks' royalties (so you lose §1250) which equals at most 3 weeks' replacement cost. To find the balance we equal the time. So it works out at least 3,33 times more expensive to replace.

Sorry for double posting. The above comparison of cost (the final figure) assumes you repair every week, it does not even consider the long term implication of making it unbreakable.

I'm not seeing any Unbreakable interactions on a Computer in the code, and I also don't recall that upgrade being a part of the game in the first place. Are you sure it's feasible?

@Schip, do you have any idea what Mary's Fairy Skill level is? At Level 3, they can Fairy-Repair the computer. It works 80% of the time. :)

I remember a sim being able to upgrade the computer to unbreakable in a game I played once.

Ah yes, I see now. I was looking in the wrong file - the XML for all computers. Checking the Cheap Computer file (the one Nameless has), there is indeed an Unbreakable Upgrade. My bad.

Nameless poem is hilarious lol! I'm glad Mary found Simler's weak spot, it is kind of funny that such a mean man is afraid of a cold. ;D

Holly

Diary Entry

I haven't said much about Holly yet in these pages.  Not because she wasn't important, no, it wasn't that at all.  But as Vita's daughter, Holly had to be careful.  In truth, I think Vita was so preoccupied with consolidating her power that she probably paid little attention to her only daughter.  But it wouldn't do to take chances.  Holly and I took to meeting at odd times and in odd places.  She would casually stroll by when I was busking.

If Vita wasn't around, I'd take a break from playing so Holly and I could talk.  One evening she told me of her hope that she would someday be able to get married, but would she ever find the right person in Sundown Town?

My experience with my ex-wife had soured me on the whole idea of marriage; I was sure that most women were selfish and untrustworthy.  But Holly was so pure, so good, so brave.  She seemed totally different from most women, and I hoped she would someday find a man worthy of her.

One evening I stepped outside to look at that rock of Mary's.  To my amazement, the piles of dust had turned into large spire-shaped objects and seemed to be emitting energy of some kind.

It seemed Mary Fairy had been right about the rock.  She was overjoyed and promptly delivered the three spires to Aleister's to be sold.  She confidently predicted that the library fund would soon have a huge infusion of cash, "more than enough to pay to have the library built."

I had been unable to reach Mr Payne, who seemed to be spending a long time at this family wedding of his.  So I invited Holly and Goodwin over to discuss what we should do next.  I told them to dress in their swimsuits, and we'd pretend it was a swimming party, nothing for Vita and her spies to worry about.

I changed into my swimwear and tuned my guitar as I waited for Holly and Goodwin to arrive.  "A" had told me these flippers were the latest thing at his shoe store - apparently he had a pair himself - but I wasn't sure they were quite my style.*

Goodwin arrived with a plate of food to make everyone think we were having a simple potluck.

Holly came straight from school, and we sat down at the kitchen table to discuss the situation.  We had enough money to build the library.  We had enough books to open it.  But what would the Evil ones do when they saw construction starting?  I was sure they wouldn't stand by and do nothing.  Goodwin confirmed my fears:  "The Police Department has strict instructions to keep an eye on any new construction.  With Vita and Simler in charge at City Hall, they can pass any by-laws they want.  They'll find some way to shut things down.  You bet."  And Mr Payne had told me that once the Evil ones knew what we were up to, things would become very dangerous not only for us but for all the innocent Sims in town.

We went over it and over it, but could think of no solution.  Finally we decided not to start on the library immediately but to wait until we had sufficient funds to build and equip the art gallery as well.  If we started work on both the library and gallery at the same time, maybe enough Good Sims would move back to town that the danger from the Evil ones would be neutralized.  It wasn't a perfect plan, but it was the best we could come up with.

And then Holly sprang a surprise on us:  it was her birthday, and she wanted to have her celebration here, with her best friends.  She had brought along a birthday cake and as we cheered her on, she blew out the candles and became a young woman.

Oh, and what a young woman!  Holly had been a pretty teenager, but she had suddenly matured into a perfectly radiant woman.  I couldn't stop looking at her as we ate our cake.

After dinner Holly and I went down to the basement to dance.

All too soon, Holly had to hurry home.  The evening was over.

I found myself trying to sort out my confused emotions.  Why did I feel so unsettled?  Was it just the excitement of knowing we were getting closer to achieving our goal?  I decided that must be it.

Eh, Holly is ok...but she's no Mary ;)

I wonder if they could build an underground library hidden from the evil ones?  Or disguise it as a casino or something with a secret library in the back rooms?

Those are great ideas!

As for the merits of Holly vs Mary - well, things are going to happen.  That's all I can say at this point.  ;)  Stay tuned for further developments.

Heh heh! I know something was going to happen between those two! Muahaha. The attraction system really added to that screenshot.
Thanks for the swim party! That was good laughs. It makes me miss Goodwin! Time to go restart my Immortal Dynasty again...

I can already see the less-than-good natural competition between two single women for one man playing itself out here... It might just end up knocking down this impressive house of cards.

I have to ask this.  Does anyone really think Nameless is brave enough to start a relationship with Vita's daughter?  :o

Not knowing his traits, perhaps, but perhaps not. Goodwin, however... :)

But a persistent woman is the downfall of a man's resistance... And if Holly...
