Can we please go easy on the discussion of slapping the story characters? Violence may offend some of the readers here, and I'm sure there are much better ways to express the desire that Nameless and Mary should get together. :)

I just had to look up what a Gibbs slap is.  The comments on this chapter are sooo funny! ;D

Apologies to all for starting the Gibbs slapping and offending anyone, that was not my intention.  NCIS afficianardos would get the joke.  A Gibb's slap is a playful light smack to the back of the head.  It's not a slap per se but a wake up call.  My bad.

Don't Go!

Diary Entry

Mary was leaving?  I stood there stunned, lost for words.

Then the emotions started flooding in.  My heart was pounding.  My chest was tight, making it hard to breathe.  My stomach churned.  Every nerve cell seemed to be firing urgently.  And then it hit me - what a fool I had been!  "Stupid, stupid, stupid!"

"I beg your pardon?" Mary said, and I realized I had spoken out loud.

"Not you!" I hastily explained.  "Me.  I am the biggest idiot alive!  How could I have been so blind?  Mary - don't go!"

"There's no reason for me to stay," she responded.  "Do you think I want to live with you and Holly?  That wouldn't be right."

"No, no, no!"  I exclaimed.  "Holly and Goodwin are in love, they're going to be married.  Oh Mary, please give me a chance to explain.

"I'm no good with feelings.  Most of the time I don't even know what I'm feeling.  It's probably hard to believe someone could be so out of touch with their feelings, but it's true.  I am fond of Holly, and I mistook those feelings of fondness for being in love.  But when I saw her and Goodwin together and it didn't really bother me, I realized that I wasn't in love with Holly at all.  And then I came home and you said you were leaving.  And it hit me like a ton of bricks - Mary, you're the one I love.  I've been a blind, stupid fool not to realize it."

Mary said, "I thought you resented me.  Remember how you tried to get me to leave?"

In a rare burst of emotional honesty, I told her, "I think it was mostly that I felt threatened by you.  You were so competent, so in-control, so perfect - so everything I wasn't.  It wasn't your fault, not at all.  It was my knowledge of my own inadequacies that made me see you as a threat."

Mary said nothing.  She looked thoughtful.  But at least she was still listening, so I pressed on.  "Mary, please don't go.  I'm no prize.  I can't imagine why any woman would want me.  You deserve far better than the likes of me.  If you really want to leave, I'll understand and I won't try to stop you.  But I'm hoping you might be willing to give me a chance.  To give us a chance."

I stood waiting for Mary's response, hardly daring to breathe.  She looked at me for a long time.  It seemed to me that she was looking deep into my soul.  Then Mary reached out and took my hands.

Mary smiled at me.  Birds burst into joyful song, and suddenly the world seemed brighter.  I dropped to my knee, saying, "Mary, if you would consent to marry me, you would make me the happiest man alive.  You are the most miraculous, wonderful thing to ever come into my life.  Heaven knows I'm no great catch.  But if you will do me the great honour of becoming my wife, I promise to never give you cause to regret it.  I will always love and cherish you."

Mary said yes.

Maybe it is Mary that Nameless truly loves and he just doesn't realize it yet.

Who's a clever girl, then?  ;)

I just realised who he looks like from the side/back 1/4.  :)
I also doubt it's actually correct, lol

Bella.  I think Fred and I are equally dumb.  So any advice?  (Bella I'm asking you because I trust you :-) )

Oh no... He actually woke up. Now I'm alone in this boat... hahaha, it would be funnier if it wasn't true

My husband looked over in concern when I sniffled and sighed. He saw I was reading a Sims story and went back to what he was doing. But this was just so perfect! The writing, the screenshots, it's always so good! When he got down on one knee and produced the ring, I couldn't restrain myself from shrieking "Faeboos!" After all, Nameless is Family-Oriented now! Please, Schip, please let us see the precious little faeboos!
