The Mice Fight Back

Diary Entry

The Evil ones were vicious, and they were determined to win.  Vita was so confident of her team's victory that she didn't even bother to get out of her chair, but sat enjoying the spectacle of the Good guys being trounced by the Evil ones.

Our defeat seemed inevitable.  Then the woman in the spotted robe hit me again, and it was if something clicked in my brain.  I suddenly remembered some little vials Mary had given me, soon after her arrival, with the admonition that if I ever found myself in a tight spot, I should throw one of the vials at my enemy.  I wasn't sure what the vials contained, but at this point we had nothing to lose.  Goodwin was fighting valiantly but was no match for the vicious Simler.  I pulled out one of the vials and threw it at Simler.

Simler immediately left off beating on Goodwin and started swatting at the swarm of bees that had magically appeared.  I wanted to laugh at the sight of the "master race" being swarmed by a lower life form, but there was no time.  Holly was being overcome by Marigold Racket.  I threw another vial at Marigold, who began dancing around in quite a spry manner for someone of her age.

Simler had somehow managed to free himself from the bees, so I pulled out a blue vial and threw it at him.

Simler immediately collapsed on the floor, sound asleep.  Another blue vial for Marigold, then the woman in the spotted robe, and finally Vita.

And soon they were all asleep on the floor.  I unlocked the door to Mary's cell and hugged her in relief at seeing her alive and well.

The Evil ones were all unconscious for the moment, and I took the opportunity to look around.  On the far side of the room I saw a bookcase and went over to see what sort of reading material the Evil masters favoured.

Imagine my surprise to find copies of all the books I had written!  My contract with the publisher clearly specified that the books would not be available for purchase in Sundown Town, and I couldn't understand how Vita had managed to acquire them.  Then I remembered our visitor from out of town.  William.  He and Vita had been extremely chummy.  No doubt he was the source of the books.  This was how Vita had found out about me.  As I stood reflecting on this, running my finger over the books, suddenly there was a whirring noise as of gears turning, and a section of the bookcase began to slowly slide aside.

A secret room!  There was nothing in it but a narrow staircase leading down into darkness.

Goodwin stayed upstairs to keep an eye on the prisoners.

And the rest of us started down the stairs.

You're rooting for the bad guys because you don't like Vita, who is the head of Team Bad Guys?  I think I must be misunderstanding you.  Or is it just that of the 4 bad guys, Simler is the one you find least objectionable?
Because Vita's already had her turn withchanging Namless's life for the better. (If it wasn't for her, he'd still be drowning his sorrows in necter, and an unkeeped slob.) Now it's Simler's turn.

Gee and here I thought that maybe Oliver had "accidentally" let Fagan see the de-evil-ed shower from Fred (donatello you rock lol) and that's how Vita knew... Didn't even think of William  :o

And its Mary for Nameless.  Holly can hook up with Goodwin.  End of story.

I'll be happy with whoever Nameless ends up with, I just want to see Holly and Mary fight and watch Nameless' reaction.

To those who've been expressing opinions on whether Nameless should wind up with Mary or Holly - what if neither of those women wants him?  Nameless isn't really isn't such a prize, you know.  He's still the slobby, childish, couch potato he was when his wife walked out on him in disgust.  And something of a misogynist in his attitudes toward women at this point, as well.

As Magz said a few pages back,
It takes a lot of patience to take on a man with as much baggage as Nameless has.

But it takes a special woman, to see that there is something deep inside of a man, that is willing to stand by him and help go thru the S.W.A.P changes that he might deep down really want to make, but never has really found the right, special woman to make those changes for.  ;)

In the Basement

Diary Entry

I'm not sure what I expected to find in the basement.  A supply of expensive, well-aged nectar?  Skeletons of Good Sims who didn't make it out of town in time?  I reached the bottom of the stairs and had to cover my eyes at the sight.

Gold!  A room full of every sort of glittering gold item imaginable, all crammed in higgledy-piggledy.  Mary, Holly and I stood in the centre of the room turning around and around, trying to take it all in.  There were golden statues, weapons, piles of gold coins everywhere.

I thought there was something a bit sick about a plant that was hard and golden instead of green and growing.

I doubted these Christmas stockings would ever hold treats for eager children.

I couldn't remember ever seeing shoes like these at A's store.  And I shuddered to think what these rigid gold things would do to the feet of anyone foolish enough to try to wear them.

I tore myself away from the shoe display to find Mary and Holly studying four statues along the far wall.

"It's the four of them!" Mary exclaimed.  They're so vain they had their likenesses carved in solid gold."

Marigold and the big hair woman were clearly recognizable.

Holly couldn't stop staring at the statue of Vita.  I wondered what it was like for Holly to first have to learn of her mother's willingness to sacrifice her only daughter along with the other Good Sims, and now to see the true extent of the greed and materialism of her mother and the others.

The furniture, like everything else in the room, was solid gold.  Cold, hard, and extremely uncomfortable.  The three of us sat down, stunned and overcome by what we had discovered.  For a long time none of us spoke.

Then Mary said gently to Holly, "I know this has been a tremendous shock to you, but your mother and the others will be waking up soon.  We have to decide what we're going to do with them."

I pointed out the obvious:  we couldn't just let them go.  As long as those four were on the loose, none of us would ever be safe.  Any leniency on our part would be taken as weakness by the Evil ones, who would waste no time coming up with a bigger and better plan to destroy us.

Then Holly spoke.

I had expected Holly to be emotional about these revelations, and she certainly had a right to be.  But when she spoke, her voice was cold and full of resolve, "My Mother!  I knew she was evil, I knew she was power-hungry.  But to think that the Freaks and many other town residents have been living in poverty, while my Mother and those - those villains - she associates with have been secretly amassing this fortune!  Any one of those statues would bring enough money to buy a baby's crib and high chair, as well as all sorts of other essentials!  There could have been real Christmas stockings for all the poor children in town, instead of those useless golden things."

Holly suddenly looked sad.

"I feel I should apologize to the two of you and Goodwin for my Mother's behaviour -" she started to say, but Mary and I quickly interrupted and assured her that she was in no way responsible for any of it.  "You were the one who guessed where they were keeping Mary," I said.  "We all owe you a huge debt of gratitude."

Time was running out.  Soon the Evil ones would be regaining consciousness, and when that happened I didn't want Goodwin to be the only one guarding them.  We hurriedly agreed on a plan to deal with our prisoners and started back up the stairs.

A room full of gold! Now to see what their plan with the evil ones is. ;)

About Nameless as a spouse, I think he will be a real catch after a S.W.A.P.
I hope Mary is the lucky lady, but Holly is lovely too.

Agreed.  I think there is some truth to the old adage, "love of money is the root of all evil."
