Vita is a scary sim, I'll pay more attention next time she appears in my game to see if it gets dark, too ;) [Though, I bet it does]

It's rather maddening not knowing our hero's name or face. No doubt intentional, our dear canine-lover?  :P

Well, dear wearer of the shoes, it could just be lousy screenshots - I've never been known for presenting lovely pictures.

Then again, it might  have something to do with this quote from Sims Wiki:
Quote
Evil Sims can Troll on the Forums
Now, you wouldn't really want to see Nameless outed in front of all the Evil characters in town, would you?  I'll grant you, Nameless may not be the most lovable fellow or the most heroic, but after all, he is on a mission, and Mr Payne would really like to see him succeed!

True true! After all, you cannot identify Nameless by his undergarmets, now can you?  :P

I sincerely hope not.  And I would like to think there probably aren't a lot of Evil Sims trolling this forum, but better safe than sorry.  ;)

Muahaha. Pure brilliance. I love your explanations as much as I love the story.

Actually, having it be all dark when Evil is about and light when things are happy is a time-honoured storytelling technique, used highly effectively in films and the like.

Can't wait to see the house you built! I like all of the slums though, nice job ladies.

That's right!  There, you see, it had nothing at all to do with my having taken the peashooter shot earlier in the day!  Rosa, do you think I could hire you to write for me?  I love the way you've just made it look like my goof-up was a deliberate artistic decision.  :P

:) I do that for my mum as well. She'll do something all artistic and then I'll explain why it works so well, and she'll say something like "Yeah, that's it!" ;)

But seriously, I think you do a great job explaining stuff yourself, and I'm pretty sure your fans don't want me to take over writing for you. I know I really enjoy your writing. I'll come in and give the "art history teacher treatment" whenever you like, though  :D

Settling In, Part I

Diary Entry

I arrived at my new abode, and a more bizarre construction one could hardly imagine.  Known as Raven House, it seemed to have the dark, looming presence of a bird of prey.  No wonder the paper boy couldn't wait to escape the premises.  As for the undernourished chap guarding the entrance - well, I could understand why the place had been on the market for so long.

Frankly, at this point the transients' campground was beginning to seem quite attractive.

After my night in the campground I felt the need to gussy up a bit.  But when I went to look in the mirror, instead of my own handsome visage, the face I saw looking back at me looked like something long-dead.

When I started imagining I heard the thing speaking to me, I resolved to make an urgent appointment with Dr Simgund Freud, as soon as he could be spared from the GO Treatment Centre.  And meantime, I would simply avoid mirrors, just as I had been warned to avoid showers.  Speaking of showers, the Raven's Nest seemed unusually well-equipped with them.

What possible reason could the previous residents have had for putting three showers in one room?  They must have been extraordinarily devoted to scrubbing themselves.  But showers have never really held much appeal for me, so as Mr Payne correctly observed, it was no great hardship for me to leave them alone.

Feeling a need to escape from this house of horrors, I made my way downtown and eventually found the Consignment Shop.

The clerk was pleased to recommend their best cheap nectar to me.  I found her quite pleasant and could detect no trace of evil in her.  She told me her name was Cornelia, and said she and her husband had been allowed to stay in town because somehow they had managed to befriend Vita Alto.  Soon I found myself telling her all about my failed marriage and my lost Ashynna.

Cornelia was very sympathetic about my loss.  In return, she warned me:  "Trust No One."  She said bitterly, "This used to be a wonderful place to live.  Sunset Valley - the first and best Sims3 town.  But the Evil ones changed all that.  Now the residents call it 'Sundown Town' because it feels like the sun has truly gone down on our community."  She told me to be very careful, because the watchers - Vita's spies - were everywhere.

I left the Consignment Shop and wandered over to Central Park.

Whoa! Not what I was expecting at all! The Raven House (as I probably should have guessed from its name) is no slum! Very creepy and cool though. I like how you integrated Supernatural stuff. I'm sure I'm not the only one dying to know why the showers are so unsafe! I wonder when we will find out.

Raven House was actually my entry in one of the Building Contests - the specifications were for a Gothic House, believe it or not.  Needless to say, Raven House didn't win or even come close, but I've always liked the place and think it suits Nameless and this mission.

As for the showers - soon, I promise.  As Nameless continues exploring his new town, Mr Payne is preparing a letter for him to explain the next part of the mission and the showers.  It's being done even as we speak.

Settling In, Part II

Diary Entry

One of the consolations of being pried away from home was that I would finally be able to visit Sunset Valley's legendary Central Park.  Even in my home town, we had heard of the beauty of this lovely park in the centre of town where Sims could gather and enjoy the great outdoors.

I was a little taken aback when I arrived at the entrance to the park and saw this:

Cannons?  Were they expecting to be invaded?  Did they think Good Sims were massing at the city gates, waiting to storm the town?

The next sight I saw convinced me of the truth of Cornelia's bitter words "Vita's spies are everywhere."

They looked a bit silly gathered together like that, trying to hide behind their hand-held bushes.  But I remembered how chilled I felt yesterday when I noticed two of them studying me.  Silly they might appear, but there was nothing funny about these fellows.

I introduced myself to a woman standing by a slot machine.  Slot machines in a park?

She told me that the slots had increased city revenue by some ridiculously large percentage, and asked where I was from, that I didn't know this.  I quickly backed off to avoid further questions.

I had a difficult time prying the next person away from two slot machines that she was trying to feed at the same time.

When I tried to talk to her about a healthy lifestyle, she replied, "Healthy lifestyle?  Don't talk to me about the price of food!  Now, go away and stop bothering me.  If I don't win big soon I won't be able to pay my bills this month."

But it was my third new acquaintance that sent shivers down my spine.

Her name was Loosey, and the tattoo on her arm symbolized her membership in a Girl Gang.  I remembered what Mr Payne had said about trying to get along with the street gangs and tried to talk nicely to her, but somehow she learned that I was a Good Sim, and that pretty much ended the conversation.

Well, I said she sent shivers down my spine, but actually the effect was more strongly felt in another part of my anatomy.  I barely made it to the bathroom in time.

Yes, my poor stomach had had all it could take of the stress and anxiety from interacting with Sundown Town's residents.  I was more than ready to go home.

Home to a tasty dinner to settle my tummy and my faithful liquid friends waiting on the counter.

I'm hooked, Schip  ;D! You've done a great job on Sundown Town, it's very atmospheric. My imagination's providing all sorts of awful explanations for those showers.  :o
