Fairy police letting thieves free
« on: October 13, 2012, 04:13:29 PM »
Is anyone else having to deal with this?  I am getting frustrated by it.  My sim's home is being robbed quite often.  It isn't the robbing so much that is bothering me, although I don't like it, but what is happening between the police and thieves.

Thief comes in back door and no alarm goes off; I wake my sim and tell him to call the poice.  Meanwhile the thief is filling up the bag.  The thief heads toward the front door and as the thief gets there, the policeperson, who is always a fairy, passes him (or her) and lets the thief get out the door.   A couple of time the police has even waved hi at the thief!
As the thief goes out the front door the alarm goes off; the dancing and shouting starts up and I have to listen to the alarm.   The police goes upstairs to the bedroom and starts a conversation with my sim and then when the thief runs off, I am then told the thief got away this time.    >:(
I now have items stolen which have to be replaced, two sims with negative moodlets due to being robbed -- when it shouldn't have happened.

Am I the only "lucky" person, or are others having to deal with this also?

Have you tried putting the burglar alarm outside the back door or locking the back door to everyone but your household?    If I have an alarm, I always keep it outside of the house or inside every door that leads outside to prevent this because the burglar will stop trying to rob you to yell at the alarm for going off.

I also attach my alarm to the exterior of the house, this way the alarm sounds as soon as the thief gets close to the house. Thieves don't ever step foot inside my house!

If you have a high fence/wall around your property you can use move objects to place it there. I have mine placed just by the gate, and the burglars never even come into the front yard, they just stop and stare at the alarm.

Good suggestions about the alarm.  But what about the policeperson being a fairy?  Does that sound right?  I wouldn't think that NPCs would become supernaturals.

Also, I'm moving this to the Miscellaneous Help board because it isn't specifically about Supernatural game play.

He's a pre-made NPC in Moonlight Falls, and yes, he really starts out as a fairy. He also let a burglar just waltz right past him in my game too.

Thanks Pam, I wasn't sure due to type of problem, but since it was in SN and I haven't had the problem show up in RV (which I have played a couple of times since I bought SN), I thought it might just be a SN problem.

Alll of my doors, and I have several -- main front, dinning room door to patio, another door to sims private patio (what can I say, I built the house I wish I had) and in this one, a door from the kitchen outside to the trash can.  One on the garage, that is outside the building.
All are locked to only household, due to zombies trying to get into the door once.
I had an alarm outide the front door and inside the kitchen door.  Any one of them opening should have been set off am alarm.  He came through the patio door in the dinning room.  I watched him open the door, which in other games it would have gone off, and no alarm.

I've built homes with alarms both in and outside and both have worked on thieves; in one home two sims are cops.  Three times robbed for this family, once at the old location, and now twice to where I moved the house to a bigger lot.

I have now put alarms on all doors, a couple inside, the patio door in sims bedroom and the kitchen door.  The others are outside the door.

I have four games in SN in different types; I know that one has been robbed and the police has been a fairy.  I had remodeled the house and didn't realize I had forgotten to put back in an alarm.  So that is understandable; but as the thief passed the cop (fairy) coming in he (cop) waved at him.   Others I have started but not played long enough yet.

Frustrating !  I didn't know if it was a glitch in my game or something others are dealing with.

It happened to me once too, although the thief just stole a towel rack and a broken bathtub.  I think it's a glitched burglar, not necessarily the cop, as the Burglar walked right by my Bonehilda too.

It is the same burglar in all of the robberies, no matter which family it was.  In the last one the robber, can't remember if male or female, took the tv and chair; I guess the thief's was broken.

Well, I decided to do some testing and even register here to share the results.  ;D
So, here it goes:

First I decided to try and old trick - resetsim cheat on both, no effects. Trying to throw elixirs on both burglar and policamen did not worked (it did not even showed them in the possible "target" list), so I decided to cheat my way to answers.

To force the game generate new burglar, I just deleted the present one with moveobjects on cheat. Next time new burglar came, problem persists. So I decided to do same with the policeman, delete him. New policeman generated, again fairie, same issue. I almost gave up, but then I noticed how much options the NRAAS debug enabler (or such) mod shows, so I patiently waited for next burglary to happen. During that, I paused the game, and with the mod, removed policemans fairie status to see if this is root of the problem.

After more than 20 sim days, another burglar come, and policeman turned into human fought him. He lost, but after more than 120 sim days I finally confirmed that problem is in policeman being fairie.
