"Hidden" Wildlife skill
« on: October 10, 2012, 10:40:50 AM »
I've been looking around for information about the wildlife skill, that you gain by observing animals, and a high level makes interations with wild animals more positive.  But I haven't found anything that says how much time in Sim hours you should spend doing the watching.  If it's more than a full sim day, I'll take a vacation and have them stare at the exotic wildlife so as not to eat up their town days.

Since it's a hidden skill, it's quite hard to make a guide :P but I remember that my sim was able to adopt the Unicorn (for which you need the wildlife skill) after befriending some animals (made with the mailbox help :P)

RIght now I can't remember if my skill mod shows the wildlife, but I could check and rise one of my sims skill to see how long it takes...

Yeah, it is for unicorn adoption.  Unfortunately as it's a challenge I can't install mods to check.  I may just send the Sim to France to stare at the wildlife for three days and then buy a nectar maker and some grapes.  Thanks!

It took my Teenager Sim less than 2 sim weeks to adopt a unicorn. My sim spent all her free time from the point of getting home from school until the curfew. She watched deer, wild horses, then was able to pet them.

I would say if your sim is working on the wildlife skill everyday, then it won't take long to find one.

Thanks for the help.  She popped an opportunity to go to France while in high school, so she's wandering around for then next 6 days appreciating wildlife (and getting her interview done!) while her mother is tomb raiding.  She should be primed for unicorn wooing on the return and then it's off to the races!

I'm pretty sure the wildlife skill is different to what you need to adopt a unicorn, and you really only need to watch wildlife a few times to max it (which is level 5). You can get the mod for it at MTS to show all the different hidden skills (I'm not sure when it was last updated). I made one to show just wildlife, and my sims maxed it easily.

Actually from what I understand you just need to actually be friends with 3 different pets to adopt a unicorn.  In my dynasty file, I was able to do adopt one just by having three animals in the house and that's what I read was required when I searched it on the official forums.

Well, I hedged my bet and BFFed my sims 3 horses instead of selling the two foals, stared at wildlife, and successfully befriended the unicorn and added her to the household.  And she promptly aged to elder...

Oh well, maybe the next unicorn!
