Questions about TS3 Pc?
« on: October 01, 2012, 01:12:09 PM »
Hi,

After finally getting a laptop that would be great for sims, I have decided to get the base game and one other expansion pack soon.

I have some questions though:

If you I got Ts3 and, say, Ambitions, would you automatically go to playing TS3 with Ambitions or could you in theory play the base game and then the expansion pack separately?

How does it work if you have two expansion packs? Do you have completely different families for each pack because they're different towns?

Thanks!! :)

Not really. With Ambitions, you get an additional town that is built specifically to accommodate Ambition's new features. It's a whole new town, with different families and buildings. The original town, Sunset Valley, receives a couple of poorly-placed buildings to fit the new expansion. So you don't really play them separately, you just either use the new features and/or items, and that's it.

So to answer your question ("playing TS3 with Ambitions or could you in theory play the base game and then the expansion pack separately?"), yes. They features would be available to you irregardless, you can't just disable them, but you can choose to avoid them, if that's what you meant.

So, if I put the base game disk into my laptop and it loaded up and became an icon and then if I put two other expansion packs in, say Pets and Ambitions, would both pets and ambitions features be present in the Base game forever?? But I thought Ambitions had a different town to the base game?? Sorry I really don't understand now !

The base game would be updated; yes there are two separate towns, but each would be affected by the other expansion. So you'll be able to be a fireman in the Apaloosa Plains and there will be pets in Twinbrook.

The town you get with the Base game, is called Sunset Valley. Most expansion packs add a new town:
Ambitions adds Twinbrook
Late Night adds Bridgeport
Pets adds Appaloosa Plains
etc.
You can have multiple saved games, each played in one town.
But for example, you have the ability to have a pet in your family in Twinbrook, even though Ambitions does not add pets to the game.
The expansions all sort of layer on top of one another as you add them.
Does that make sense?

I think this may seem a bit complicated. If I may simplify:

I have Ambitions and WA in addition to the base game. I have installed them all separately, using each disc of course. But to play, I only insert the disc from the latest expansion. Then on the main menu, all towns and all saved games are available, featuring all features from all installed games. It is that simple.

Yes Donatello's explanation is clearest. For each saved game, you can select one town.
