Population control
« on: October 01, 2012, 06:52:58 AM »
This question spans quite a few topics, so I thought I'd put it here. Mods, please move it if need be.

I don't quite follow what the situation is these days about controlling vampires in towns.  Ie, can it only be done with a 3rd party mod, or with Supernatural or is does the ability come with a patch since Supernatural?

I haven't got Late Night and I won't be getting Supernatural til next year.

I want Bridgeport and the ability to have the different musical instruments but I don't want the dreaded vampires taking over the town.  Especially since I want to do an Immortal Dynasty without the added irritation of potential spouses turning.

Am I correct in understanding that they pop up in all towns if you have Late Night installed, ie without placing any new buildings in Twinbrook, they'll just turn up?

Many thanks!

x, EAOdinsdottir.

It is true that vampires will pop up in any town regardless if you place Late Night lots, same goes for celebrities and paparazzies.

I belive that ability to control (turn off vampires, zombies etc) came with Supernatural EP, not with patch, but someone else might confirm that.

Couple of our members and staff even unstalled Late Night because of overwhelming celebrities and vampires, so if you are already thinking how to exclude them, then you might consider either mod or wait for Supernatural.

Population Control did come with the patch, not the expansion, so you can turn off vampires now if you want.

The ability to control supernatural populations came with the patch. If you have LN and thus Bridgeport, there will still be Celebrities and Vmpires there, since thy excist at the start of the game. No vampires/celebrities will be created in other towns if you have them the selected.

It was the lunar cycle that was added with supernatural.

Is the vampire/population control in with my regular options screen? I had a good look and I can't find it.  Am fairly sure am on the most recent patch.  I'll double check.

It has it's own separate tab under the Options menu. 2nd from last for me (I think last is lunar cycle), might just be very last tab for you since you don't have SN.

I'm really glad Odinsdottir asked this question because I've been wondering the same thing.  If I reinstall LN when I get my new computer and don't play in Bridgeport, does that mean my game will remain free of vampires and celebrities as long as I keep them turned off?  For me it was mainly the celebrity issue that made me uninstall LN, so I want to be really sure of this before reinstalling.  When my Sims travel are they going to encounter paparazzi?  I'd really like to have the LN instruments and Sims jamming together, but just don't want to have to deal with the celebrity issue at all.

That is correct.  I don't think there'll be paparazzi.  That's part of what is turned off.

Actually I think paparazzi are just one of those townie jobs that happen regardless of population control.  There will always be paparazzi but they won't hang around because you aren't celebrities.  I have several people that are still paparazzi in career but there isn't a single star on anyone in my town.

Confimed.  I updated and now have the screen in options to control the populations.  Thanks so much for the help.

Now that I've finally worked out the issues I was having with SN and got my new computer, I have a question about the population controls.  Specifically, why are there so many paparazzi in my Sunset Valley game when I have Celebrities unchecked?  I haven't encountered any actual celebrities that I know of (yet) but there are a lot of paparazzi around.  I thought unchecking Celebrities was supposed to keep both them and the paparazzi from showing up. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to have to uninstall LN yet again, sigh.  Just as I was enjoying watching the Sims jamming together, too.

I have the same problem. No celebrities but paparazzi dis show up. I also think about not install Late night when I do a fresh install before Seasons.
I'm also tired of all the wishes to meet a vampire lol. I don't think I will get it without Late night. There will be so many new things in Seasons that I won't miss it. :)

Well, it's good to know it's not just in my game that this is happening.  Thanks, Louise.

I get the feeling that the paparazzi sort of become like NPCs if there are no celebrities.  They are still around, but they don't do anything special.  They shouldn't come to your Sim's house trying to take pictures if you have no celebrities in the house.  Do you just see them around town?

Just ignore them. If your Sims aren't celebrities, they shouldn't bother them. :)
