Custom Content Question

I'm not sure where this would go, but I figured the Swap Shop was a good place to start.

Anyways, I have downloaded some sims from thr sims 3 exchange, right?
Well, some of them came with skins that replaced the presets. Is there a way to remove these?
Or do I have to remove the sims they came on and if I remove the sims they came on, does that also remove the custom content already downloaded that came with the sim that I want to keep?

The best thing will be to remove the Sims and also remove the custom skins.  I'm not sure how to remove the skins, but I'm sure a more technical member will be along soon.

It can be risky downloading from the Sims 3 Exchange because you really don't know what someone is putting into the files they upload.

True, but the main reason I do it, is for the pretty hairs...xD
The Sims hairs tend to not blend the highlights, tips and main colour all that well, and I like to play with my sims by giving them crazy coloured hair, and the styles never seem to work. Therefore, I get custom content hairs. Only thing is, with the way the skins are on the Sims 3, the skins tend to replace the ones already there. Plus, some come with crazy content that can affect, all sims from babies to elders which irritates me, because then I get glitched babies.....

Anyways, I would have no problem in removing the sims, if they didn't take all of the other custom content with them.

Hopefully, someone will be able to tell you how to remove the third party skins.  That's all we'll be able to do, though, because we have a Forum rule against discussing or linking third part custom content.

Sims with custom skins will be corrupted when the skins are removed. To remove the custom content if you installed via the launcher, go to the Installed Content tab on the left-hand sidebar, tick the checkbox beside everything that you want to remove including the sims, and then push the Uninstall button. That should get rid of it all. If you installed using packages, just delete them.

After that step, you will need to go into the "Downloads tab" find the sim you uninstalled, then select the box beside it and click on the "delete" at bottom.

If for some reason that doesn't remove it the Sim, Just make sure you still have it selected, and click on the "show file", this will open download folder and the file will be highlighted, you can right click and delete from there.

Sorry it's lengthy, but I found out along time ago, that just "uninstalling" Custom Content, doesn't mean it's removed from the files.

I have some custom content that I want to remove, and I can't find it under the installed items. I know exactly what they look like and everything, but can they be removed from my game somehow? Is there something that can tell me the name of the file in-game like The Sims 2 unlock outfits does?

Are you sure it's not in your mods folder if you have one? Sometimes CC is unzipped into your mods folder.

I have no mods, so no mods folder. In the sims 3 launcher, I can't find them under installed items, and I don't know the names of the items I want to remove, so I can't remove them manually in the Downloads file on my computer in the sims 3 section.

Crinrict is great in what she does.. I use her tips and guides all the time. She is on the main Sims 3 forums and helps with the bugs and stuff when new patches and EPs come out.
