Rules: Regaining your Wings - A Supernatural EP Project
« on: September 20, 2012, 02:47:05 AM »
Hello everyone,

I'm brand new to the forum though I have been lurking for a while, and with the release of the Supernatural EP I decided to come out of hiding to post a project I thought of while playing around with one of my families. With Pam and Metropolis Man's kind approval, here are the rules.

I haven't test played it yet so if anyone does take it on and there are problems within the rules, please let me know and I'll change them. Also, if you do play it, I'd love to hear your feedback and read your stories.

Enjoy.  :)

The Story:

Many years ago, in a magical land, a fairy fell in love with a witch (or werewolf). Knowing her family wouldn’t approve, she eloped with him thinking to escape their wrath. Naturally, when they found out she had married an outsider, they were horrified and decided to curse her with the worst thing that could happen to a fairy. Small wings.
Devastated by the loss of her beautiful wings, she searched everywhere for a cure, finally discovering that in order to regain them, she’d have to give birth to a boy with all the powers of the Fae. Her husband, however, was determined to create the most powerful coven (or pack), the world had ever seen and to do so he needed twelve daughters and so he had placed a powerful charm on his wife on their wedding day.

Due to the fear that someone would indeed form a coven this strong; the rulers of the kingdom had placed restrictions on the number of people who could live under one roof at any one time. Limited to eight members, the couple realized that in order for both of them to realize their dreams, they would have to raise seven of their girls to adulthood before either dream could become reality.

Luckily for them, an unknown wizard had created a magical item known as Birthday Cake which would age their children to the next stage of their life long before their time. However, as with most magical ‘cheats’ there were a few glitches in the magic. If their children used the cake before they completed certain requirements, they would be cursed with hideous afflictions and lose their magic completely; dooming the creation of the coven and ultimately delaying the birth of their mother’s saviour.

The Rules:

Create a couple; a fairy and a witch OR werewolf. They must be Young Adults. Gender isn’t important, however the fairy must have small wings, and if the father is the fairy, the children must all be male, or if the mother is the fairy, the children must all be female until the birth of the thirteenth child. Use watermelons to have girls, apples for boys. The witch/werewolf parent MUST have the Leader of the Free World LTW.  If you would like to create a same-sex couple, you are permitted to adopt children, however you MUST adopt them from the baby stage and they MUST still be of the opposite gender to your fairy sim. However, due to the ease of adopting the correct gender, you will automatically lose 5 points on scoring.

All LTRs are allowed, EXCEPT for the King/Queen of the Fae. All elixirs are allowed. In the case of a non-magical child being born, an elixir may be used to create a fairy/witch/werewolf YA before they move out, provided they meet all the requirements in each stage of their lives.

Provided you meet all of the requirements in each life stage, you may choose the traits for your children. If you don’t meet them and your child ages up without the cake, they may still have magical abilities, however you must roll a six sided dice to choose a ‘negative’ trait:
1.   Absent-minded OR Unlucky
2.   Coward OR Loser
3.   Mean-Spirited OR Supernatural Skeptic
4.   Dislikes Children OR No Sense of Humour
5.   Hates The Outdoors OR Technophobe
6.   Hot-headed OR Over-emotional.

You may NOT choose a trait that does not fall under the number you roll. If you have twins or triplets and choose to use a cake on one of them; you have to use the cake on their siblings whether or not they’ve completed the requirements. If they haven’t completed the requirements, you must roll the dice for them, and they lose all magical abilities, requiring another child to take their place in the coven.

Money cheats are allowed, although it may be more challenging to earn your simoleons as you play.

Aging must be set to Normal. Having the supernatural parents automatically gives them a lifespan long enough to raise all those kids, since they’re starting off as YA’s. If for some reason you cannot reach thirteen kids before the threat of a birthday to elder appears, you may use a LTR or an Elixir to restore their youth.

Life-stage Requirements:

Babies: Must be left to age up without cake.

Toddlers: Must learn to Walk, Talk and be Potty-Trained. Must also be Best Friends with both Parents and have read at least one children’s book.

Children: Must be get on the Honor Roll (if playing on a lifespan above normal they must be on for three days, have one Best Friend unique to them, and at least Five Skill Points in any skill/s.

Teens: Must be on the Honor Roll for three consecutive days, have two Best Friends unique to them, at least Ten Skill Points in any skill/s and a Part-Time Job.

YA: Unless they were born without supernatural abilities; they are ready to move out and make space for the next set of siblings. First though, they need to have their own alchemy set in their inventory and a YA portrait of themselves in their ritual robes hanging in their family house. If they were born without magical abilities; use an elixir on them first; paint their picture and boot them out.

When the thirteenth child is born and grows into their powers – normally as a teen, you may purchase the King/Queen of the Fae reward for the fairy parent and change their wings. If you haven’t managed to meet all the requirements by the time the thirteenth child comes along, your witch/werewolf parent is doomed to fail in their attempt to take over the world, and must immediately quit his/her job if in the political career track.
The challenge ends when the coven is complete (twelve magical children); there is one Fairy child of the opposite gender to the fairy parent; the fairy parent has the LTR of King/Queen of the Fae, and the Witch/Werewolf Parent has achieved their LTW.

Any children ‘mistakenly’ born in the opposite gender before the thirteenth child will not count and may be ‘aged’ prematurely and booted from the house without repercussions, however this shouldn’t happen if your sim starts eating watermelons/apples from the moment she gets the ‘nauseous’ moodlet after trying for a baby.

Scoring:

1 point is given for each child.
1 point for each requirement met for each child.

-1 for each ‘negative’ trait given to children not meeting the requirements.
-5 each time you need to ‘replace’ a child who is aged up with the cake without meeting requirements.
-1 each time a parent sim needs to restore youth.
-5 if you’ve adopted a child to count towards completing the challenge.

PS. Scoring is a personal choice.

Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles and the won'ts.
Listen to the never-haves, then listen close to me;

What life span is this on, or is it personal choice?

Hi Audren,

It should be possible to complete this on a normal lifespan since supernaturals like fairies are automatically given a longer life. But you are able to use regenerating items like the Fountain of Youth elixir if your parents are aging too fast. I would say it's a personal choice if you choose a longer lifespan but I wouldn't go shorter than a normal one. That's what the birthday cake is for. ;)

*doink* I forgot that the children were fairies.  :P I was thinking, "How the heck are some of these requirements possible?" But, do Fairies have extended life for all life stages, or just Young Adult on?

A fairy's extended life only comes into effect during the Young Adult & Adult life stages.    I think there is a game mechanic that even though both of those stages are over 105 days each, that on your elder birthday the game says you're only 73 days old like it were a normal Sim who would be that old on that day.

I did say in the original post that lifespan should be set to normal. The requirements should be fairly easy to meet for each stage though you may have to micro-manage your sims a bit. Unfortunately saying anything more might be a giveaway on strategy and I'm not sure how strictly strategy talk for Projects is forbidden.

Strategy discussion for projects is as permissible as you want it to be.

The only problem I see is with getting a child on the honor roll for 3 days. Fairies are children for only 7 days, if lifespan is on normal, and they have to have A's for 3 days to get on the honor roll. Even if they're tutored, that means they can be on the honor roll at most for 2 days because of the weekend.

The thing I find a little iffy though, is this. If the witch/werewolf parent wants a 12 strong coven/pack, then they need 12 witch/werewolf children for that. So what happens to the fairy children not the saviour?

I don't know if would be possible to get a child on the honor roll for three days let alone three consecutive days.
I suppose if a Sim aged up to child on a weekend that would give them two days to be home tutored and they might get on the honor roll by the Tuesday. But it will be hard to make sure that all children age up at a weekend.

Hmmm, I see your point MarianT and Rachel. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll change the rule set so that they have to just get onto the honor roll.  That should be possible before they have to age up naturally shouldn't it?
However to make it more challenging if you choose to play on a longer lifespan than normal, I would keep the rule as is.

Lysita, fairy lore also traditionally says that at fairy circles, there were between six and twelve members. Fairy tales such as the Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Princess and the Swans, and so on, are all thought to be about the Fae and their magic. Fairies also formed clans, if you have a look at the Tuatha de Danaan myths they were fighters and warriors as well as magical.
It doesn't really matter what sort of magic is used to form the coven/pack/circle so long as it is magic of some kind. However if it will bother you that your coven/pack is not purely witches or werewolves, you are permitted to use elixirs to change that as long as you've met the requirements and your children have aged up properly. The only important thing is the gender and that's why if your sim gives birth to the wrong gender before the thirteenth child, you can age them up and kick them out.

Yeah, getting on the honor roll is certainly possible on normal. I'm pretty sure it is possible to get 3 consecutive days, but you basically have to age up on Sunday for it to work, so it's rather haphazard.
