Sorcerer's Stone
« on: September 16, 2012, 09:10:32 PM »
I saved up 40K for this thing.

Needless to say I was not impressed. I was making more money turning apples into gems.

So I decided..hmm..everything gold. Not too shabby.

Third apple I tried to turn into Gold, I turned myself into Gold. Here comes the Grim.

Second attempt, the fourth item I turn into Gold, same thing.

Not worth the 40,000 points whatsoever.

Welcome to our Forum, Annah!

I modified the subject of this thread to say just "Sorcerer's Stone" so we can have other discussion about it and to make it a little more tidy.

Yes welcome.

The actual item name is the Philosopher's Stone as far as I know.   The other thing is it depends on what you are putting on the pedestal.

This is what the game code reads for the Philosopher's Stone:

Code: [Select]
<kChanceToFail value="65, 8">
      <!--2 Chances of Failure.  The first is for any object.  The second is is the object is worth morth then kObjectValueForDecreasedFailChance-->
    </kChanceToFail>
    <kObjectValueForDecreasedFailChance value="35">
      <!--Object Value to decrease the fail chance to the second value of kChanceToFail-->
    </kObjectValueForDecreasedFailChance>
    <kChanceToEpicFail value="12">
      <!--Chance to Epic fail if the regular chance to fail fires-->
    </kChanceToEpicFail>
    <kStatueValue value="50000">
      <!--Statue Value-->
    </kStatueValue>

What the code basically says is that you have a 65% chance of failure on any object.  However, it looks like if the object is worth more than §35, that chance is lowered to 8%.  So by only doing this with apples you are exposing yourself to a higher chance of failure.

I have a file where I use it all the time on random items in my inventory.  Usually the alchemy 1 books you get from the elixir consignment shop.  They almost always turn into gold bars and I've never been able to kill my Sim no matter how often I try.

Would having a Death Flower get you a pass with Grim on this death? I usually try and get one early in the game.

I have never seen a death flower not bring a Sim back to life.

Yea, I haven't either but thought I would check if they might try to be different this time. :)

You can make lots of money even if they die. The gold statue of my Sim is worth 62,500 Simoleans, she died but the statue doesn't disappear, she came back with a death flower.
Edit: I wanted to share a picture of the statue.

You can also use the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone to "bind" a ghost. What this does is, allow you to select a ghost to join the active household as a playable ghost. In my story, I had Agnes Crumplebottom bind Erik Darling. He ate ambrosia, became real and they married.

Can you force any ghost to join, regardless of relationship, or location? say, could Zelda Mae bind Erik Darling?

Yes - the tombstone has to be laying around somewhere for you to be able to bind them.  You can't do it to a ghost that is under manage the dead in the mausoleum.

So, this is a lifetime reward right? Is there any other way to get this? I found this item randomly in the family inventory but I am 100% sure that I didn't use any lifetime happiness points to buy it  ::)

You also get it by completing the Alchemy Mastery opportunity chain that you get as soon as you max out your alchemy skill.

Thanks!
