Freezing, Crashing and "Sims 3 has Stopped Working".
« on: September 16, 2012, 07:38:13 AM »
Ever since the most recent patch, I've been getting weird bugs and freezes in my Dreamer Legacy file. I solved it by referring to a previous save. All the other files were fine. Now, after installing Showtime, it's back but in every single file I have. I can be playing just fine for a few minutes, and then the game freezes up apart from the plumbobs still spinning, Zs moving over a sleeping sim's head, workout machines still running if a sim is working out.. But everything else is frozen and my fps remains the same number it was before the freezing occurred (usually between 15 and 20). I can wait a few minutes and the freezing will sometimes go back to normal, but about a minute later it will happen again, followed by my screen whitening out and giving me a pop up telling me that Sims 3 has stopped working and that I can either look online to find a solution or just close down the game. Either way, my game has to end. It's affecting every file, two in Sunset Valley, one in Hidden Springs, and one in Bridgeport. I started a new game in Sunset Valley and it is still happening, though it takes about an hour of play to happen in a brand new file. I tried a factory reset and it still happens.  ::) Mods don't seem to help either - I use  up-to-date Overwatch and ErrorTrap in my Sunset Valley files (My legacy and a just-for-fun file) but they act no different to the unmodded dynasties.

I have no idea what it could be, because everything is up to date and my laptop is only a month old and can run the game fine. The specs are: a 2.2ghz Intel core Processor, Intel HD graphics card, 4 GB Memory and 500 GB in the hard dive. That shouldn't cause all this, should it? I did the DEP thing as well so it wouldn't crash the game and it makes no difference. I'm really regretting installing Showtime now.  :(

Hi Fez,

I've noticed your reply in another thread and I believe you have already tried cleaning up by deleting certain cache files and all that's in the DC Backup folder, right? Because I had the same thing as you do and that helped me a lot. You have to do that regularly though.
Else if you have a 32 bit system, you can change it to 64 or if that's too much work you can also adjust the 32 bit system. Because a regular 32 bit system can only use 2 GB for the game.
What do you mean with the DEP thing btw?
Problem? Don't panic! There is always a solution. You just have to find it  :D

Thanks, Odie. It's 64bit and I regularly clear my caches. :( The DEP is the Data Execution Prevention, there was talk about how leaving it on lead to crashes, so you have to go into System on the Control Panel, then into Advanced System Settings and under the Preferences tab, it should be there, then there's an option to allow DEP except to the programs I add, and you add the sims 3 and then it won't crash the game. Seems to not be the reason I'm crashing though, because it's still happening. :-\

EDIT: What I think it may be, actually, is that I leave my MSN logged in all the time on my laptop (It logs me in automatically) so maybe it's eating at my RAM or something if I keep it open while playing.

Ok, I checked at my computer for the options of DEP and it is now set to work only for essential Windows programs and services. It was already set that way and that sounds good, right?
Under that line was the option to set it always unless for certain programs and there you can fill in The Sims, but I think I better keep the setting how it was.

I hope you found out what the problem was. I think MSN can be the issue. You can always check in your Task Manager what is doing what.
