Inventing and Fire?
« on: June 14, 2010, 02:25:18 PM »
This has happened a few times now.

My sim starts inventing something, it blows up, she gets set on fire, try as I might to get her to stop going "Oh no, I'm on fire" Flap and call the fire brigade she ends up dying.  Managed to save her once by getting her son to shake the fire extinguisher at her.

NOW, my question is, why oh why does the fire alarm not work?! She's got a fire alarm and a burgular alarm in her work shop where she does her inventing but when she's on fire it doesn't go off!!

:( I'd really like to not have to keep reloading my game!

As per the Occupational, Safety, and Health Siministration, try adding a cheap shower to your lab.  Next time you catch on fire, use it to douse the fire.

Also if you have WA installed, you could collect and build a Dive Well.

In the Ambitions First Impressions thread, what you described has killed a few Sims too. I play with testing cheats enabled true, so if one of the needs dips into red I can drag it back to orange (or green if they're at work), and whilst inventing my Sim caught fire. I cancelled the 'On Fire!' moodlet and the fire went out. I should stress that I think it's only happened to me so far, no other player has confirmed it. It was a small fire, Sam's bum was flaming away and I cancelled the moodlet. The fire went out. He's caught fire twice, and both times I put the fire out by cancelling the moodlet. Now I can't confirm whether it has worked for other players, but it has for me, twice; and if you don't want to put the testing cheats on, then there's always the shower or Dive Well for a legititmate 'in game' solution :)
Grr Argh!

Bwahaha, had that happen to my sim while sculpting a metal doohickey!  I had no shower, and no pool. I did manage to call the firefighter, and as he arrived in my shop, he congratulated my sim's ashes for putting out the fire before he could arrive, warning me to be more careful in the future. Or maybe he was talking the Grim Reaper. Can't be sure. But lesson learned. Always have a shower or pool nearby.  ;D

Good tip!

I had a Sim on fire once from this and the firefighter managed to arrive on time.  But the shower would have been a much simpler solution.

I can also confirm if you're playing with testingcheatsenabled true, control+click the on fire moodlet and it will go out. That has saved my butt (literally lol) multiple times!
