@Deklitch: Three days late, shame on me!

Life states aren't supposed to be passed down from grandparent to grandchild, though it happens on rare occasion. I once fudged an Immortal Dynasty attempt that way. But I wouldn't count on it either.

So, the mechanics that prevent incest in the game ban any romance between direct ancestors and direct descendants (so if your great-great-great-grandmother is still around, you can't romance her). I've heard it referred to as "they need to be twice-removed", or two degrees of removal from your sim's direct, vertical ancestry. So you can't romance a great-great-great-uncle either, but a first-cousin-twice-removed is able to be romanced.

Or your family tree will break and nothing will matter! :P

Oh, and you can age up and mould those genie boys however you desire.

@Trip I was away for the past few days myself, so I kept myself entertained in other ways, in an apartment building whose owners/managers have a definition of 'free internet'' that is vastly different to my own. Theirs was 'free but you still need to pay for it'.  ::)

Thanks for explaining to me about game mechanics that prevent incest in game. That is greatly appreciated.

Thanks also for telling me about grandparents and their grandchildren and setting my mind at ease regarding them and life state inheritance.

Oh and I'm pleased to hear about my genie twins

Hi, I'm currently doing an unofficial runthrough of the challenge (My game no longer works without twallan's mods, and after moving I no longer have the internet to redownload/attempt to fix. :<). Got a couple of questions, as I'm trying to adhere to all but the modding rules (in case of curiosity, using multiple of Twallan's mods and a fix for into the future opportunities).

1. Bot Building isn't mentioned due to the into the future opportunities bug I'm assuming, but would trait chips from it work for the 7 items from skills?
2. Would gifting life state elixirs to non-household sims be okay, in the hopes that they use them? I have no idea if they autonomously use them, but if they do would be a potential way for me to get more life states out there.
3. I'm really confused by the vacation time rules. Is it 7 days + 7 per heir for all the heirs? Or is it 7 + 7 per heir for the founder, 7 + 7 per future heirs for the second heir, etc? And if the 2nd gen and the founder were to go on vacation together for 3 days, would it be taking up 3 days from each of their pools, 6 days from the overall pool or 3 days from the overall pool?
4. Is giving spouses once you've moved them in fountain of youth/young again potions okay, or must the potion be given before they're moved in?

Thanks. ^^

Hi @Castaras. Good luck with any attempt at this, official or not. :D

Anyways...

1. Trait chips should be fine. Having Into the Future puts players at an immense handicap, but we can't ban players from using it either, so I think any products from the skills should be fair game. I'll probably have to update those rules...

2. I highly doubt they'll use them (especially in an unmodded game). It's such a slim chance, so gift away!

3. So the DecaDynasty rules for vacation days are that your first generation starts with 10, and any leftovers roll over throughout generations. For the Life States dynasty, it's that but with 7 days, not 10.

4. There are no restrictions on when you can give a spouse whatever potion will make them young again. I know I did it for two of mine well after they moved in.

I think I've got this right, this is regarding the 7 unique items for the mausoleum.

Founder genie is a fire fighter and has skills of Handiness and Athletic. His 7 items are upgrades.

I had him buy 7 brash bowls and have proceeded to send him along them giving each one of them unbreakable.

As he finishes each one, her puts them into the mausoleum - see the following:

ETA Just realised I didn't REALLY ask my question. :)
Is this correct?

1). Have 1 Best Friend that is not a household member and is a non-Normal life state (i.e. vampire, stray animal, ghost). This Best Friend must be unique to the qualifying heir and not a Best Friend to any other household member.

Just to check ... the Best Friend doesn't have to be a unique type, do they? IE Gen 1 becomes best friends with Nick Alto who the game has turned into a fairy. The game has also turned Monika Morris into a fairy, can Gen 2 choose to become BF with her, or because Gen 1 is BF with a fairy, Gen 2 can become BF with Beau Andrews as a vampire, but not Monika Morris as a second fairy?

@Deklitch not at all. Actually, it's not exactly a terrible idea to have your heirs all get friendly with their imaginary friends (though not turning them real unless that's the spouse option)

I'm sure the answer to this is going to be "NO", but I'm going to ask anyway.

My Genie founder has completed 5 of his 6 skill challenges. I'm trying to do electrician as his last one, as that'll mean I can totally have athletics and handiness skill challenges completed.

He is currently at 4/10 electrical objects repaired and his spouse, the lovely Aggie "can I suck your blood" C is using the household computer which has broken once and he's also forever using the cheapest dish washer possible and it has broken three times.

Am I able to use his ensorcel genie power to ensorcel the game turned witch, Bebe Hart (who I intend to have as the future witch spouse), purchase a group of cheap dishwashers and have her blast them, so he can run along and repair them? Or will this break the rules of the challenge? I believe it will as she joins the family temporarily for four hours, but I wanted to double check. :) Of course, I'm not even sure if witches can be ensorceled, so it might be a moot point. :D

@Deklitch ensorcelment takes up a household slot so it's doubly not good.

Cheap TVs and stereos weren't cutting it either?

I thought that would be the case :)

I'll try them :)

Or just get him out and collecting different butterflies or something.

Also, if he finds space rocks, can he leave them for a future generation to identify and meet that skill challenge or should the sim who finds them do the identification? :D

ETA: It ended up being the washing machine and cheaper computers that got him over the line.

Are spouses able to be previously married/have prior children? eg the fairy Vita Alto

Actually, it doesn't look like I'll have to go down that path :)

Monika Morris with her green fairy wings - which kind of clash with her clothing choice, but she's a fairy :D

@Deklitch Monica may be a better choice anyways (do you really need Vita's cheekbones?) but prior children isn't an issue. No matter how you slice it. Somehow I managed to get a spouse who had his own grandchildren with each attempt.

As for the space rock question...it's a tough call but I'm gonna say no to it being a future heir's collection. Analyzing isn't really where you put the work in for getting space rocks, ya know?

Its been a while for me, so I want to double check the mechanics of the Honor Roll requirement for heirs 2-7.

I've gotten a 'Honor Roll' moodlet for 2C my vampire sim heir, but no message yet about him being on the honor roll, unless it came but I paid no attention to it. However, his father's wish that 2C get on the Honor Roll has been met. Do I count that requirement as completed, or should I wait for a bit to wait for the message?

Also regarding adding new sims ... once an heir has been born, can the previous parents become pregnant again, or have I had another brain explosion in trying to give 2C further siblings which he can tutor in logic? So, Sam and the lovely Aggie had three boys, 2 genies like Sam and one vampire like Aggie. The vampire like Aggie was automatically heir, then I thought let's give em younger brothers so that 2C can tutor kids and Aggie fell pregnant. Now I'm thinking I've messed up with that decision. :D

@Deklitch

1. It counts!

2. Younger siblings are fine to have. Sometimes you just don't want to bother with more babies after having deliberate multiples every gen. :P
