Ok thanks Nutella.  That is a shame about that bug!  I hope they do something about it soon.  There is no way I would attempt any dynasty with something like that going on in my game, so I guess those careers don't matter anyway.  I have been using the game selector, and on my fortunate fortnight challenge, I didn't load it with into the future, and he was getting the opportunities.  I love the sims, but it is so irritating to have something you spend money for not usable because of a bug.  I am really disappointed.

Hey all!
So, I've broken down and started another Life State's Dynasty. I was just looking for clarification.
My founder has the Athletic trait, but I would like to focus on Athletics and Martial Arts, with a job in the FireFighter career. I'm very, very good for 5000k wishes, so I was wondering... is it necessary to max out a career? Or could I technically send her in, (she's at level 5 or 6 now, after only working out and not touching handiness) to get two career rewards (which she's already achieved) and have her quit so as to not worry about her gaining handiness? Or is it necessary to max the career for it to count?
Just curious. I've always maxed careers.

@LivvieLove

No it is not necessary to max out a career, you can stop after you get your two career reward.  However these career rewards must be unique to the qualifying heir, so this means any of your future heirs cannot be firefighters (you run a risk of them accidentally gaining career level and getting the rewards, hence disqualifying your HOF status).

You don't have to max both skills for Firefighting. My founder had the handy trait, and so I used handiness, and completely ignored Athletics. She actually maxed the career no problem in a few weeks :)
From the moment I fell down that rabbit hole I've been told what I must do and who I must be. I've been shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot. I've been accused of being Alice, and of not being Alice, but this is my dream. I'll decide where it goes from here.

Thank you for the response! Yeah, I'm completely ok with not using the Firefighter career again. I just wanted to get in and grab her rewards and get out. :) Thank you again!

I am in the third generation of my life states dynasty, and my game is acting weird.  First of all, I have some invisible instruments in the yard.  Sometimes, the sims play them and the instruments are there, but they are invisible.  I started on a small lot, and they are taking up space and there's nothing I can do about it.  Also, I am getting a lot of crashes to desktop and lag.  I have saved as every single sim day and I am clearing out my caches.  There's probably like 2000 stuck cars in the game.  Anyway, what can help?

Have you tried running the sledgehammer tool over the yard in buildmode? that usually does the trick for getting rid of invisible things, I do that sometimes to remove the alchemy station spawner if it spawned somewhere I don't want seeing as buy debug is off limits so I can't see it. And try it with move objects turned on if they are stuck.

Crashing and lags  ::) tell me about it, I started over so many times because of that, I have finally got it running smoothly by turning off pets, showtime and seasons, it's a shame as I was enjoying my equestrian genie but it was, for no reason I could find, totally unplayable, but my new game is working perfectly, gen 3 has just arrived in mine.

I wish I could give you some advice on that but the only thing that worked for me was scraping those games and starting over, barely got past two weeks on some of them, I copied some of my crashy saves over to my modded game and even error trap found nothing so no idea why it did it, as a rule the game never crashes on me.

I don't have seasons, pets, or into the future loaded up.  I did load it up with showtime just for the genie.  The genie was my founder.  Yeah, you know unfortunately, I don't think I am going to get through one of these things without mods.  There is just too many problems.  I had never used mods until recently, and WOW, what a difference.  The short challenges are fine, but I don't want to go back to this.  It is too much of a hassle, the town is dead, and it just isn't as fun.

I know what you mean, I had a moment of lets just play an unofficial one then, got my founders requirements finished and found I had no will to carry on, the bugs do annoy me, story progression annoys me immensely but I found without those obstacles the will to carry on sort of left me, daft isn't it, almost as if I enjoy torturing myself  ;D

Whether I'll get to the end or not I can't say but I have wanted to do this challenge for so long and I'm at the point now of refusing to let it beat me no matter what. But in my current file the fun is far outweighing the hassles, we do play sims for fun and when it isn't then I guess that's the time to make it so it is once more.

In the end it just comes down to if you want your name in the Hall Of Fame or not, I just found mods too tempting when I tried to play unofficially, started with just a couple but then kept adding more.

I love torturing myself, how else can I explain the number of times I've tried to do the immortal dynasty challenge? :D

I've thought of trying this one, but the thought of not being able to choose my own traits frightens me greatly.

I did roll my founder's traits once for this challenge, and I believe I got the traits we had to use for the Ricalyn's asylum challenge from last year.

At some time in the future I'll probably break down and try this one, but at the moment, I'm torturing myself again with the immortal dynasty challenge.

It almost makes me want to load up Sims 3 on my laptop and play it on there, to see if my laptop treats me nicer than my desktop :D

You know, I was hesitant of trait rolling at first, but after doing a whole LSD... it was the most fun I've ever had in a dynasty. It's like the Immortal Dynasty with very little wait time. Is your toddler sim already done with their skills required? CAKE 'em up! Did you already get your teens requirements and now have 10 days left on the clock? Cake 'em up! It's a glorious revolution for someone like me who gets things done in the first couple of days and just has to sit around waiting on birthdays. If the ID functioned like this I would've completed several of them by now! The traits being random sounds like it would be scary, but in reality it's not so bad, as you'll find out how little traits play into learning skills. Heh, my fairy was evil, loves the outdoors, loves to swim and a couple other bad traits, and he learned cooking and gardening without any trouble at all (except the whole friend part, apparently evil people make bad friends - that was remedied though, with one potent friendship elixir). Then you just lock them away in a little jail cell friendly cubby hole for the rest of the challenge while others get their requirements done.

Well, I am going to keep going on this, and hopefully I can get it finished.  I am with LivvieLove about the random traits.  I think it makes things so much more fun.  On other dynasty attempts, I planned out the whole thing.  With this one, I am just letting it go and letting fate decide what they do.

Yeah the not planning is hard, my mermaid got no useful traits so as she has to swim I did athletic, her child then rolls the athletic trait at birth, typical  :P

I was hoping he might roll something else to give me a clue as to what to do with him and he rolled vehicle enthusiast as a child and now family oriented at teen, here's hoping young adult gives me something skill related so I can decide his future. But at least my toddlers will learn skills faster from now on  ;D

On the subject of vehicle enthusiast does the best friend have to be a sim? just curious as he will likely end up best friends with whatever car I get him.

I don't think "car" counts as an unusual life state. And I seem to remember this question being asked before, with the verdict being that your car can't be a unique best friend. But if only...

I know the feeling of traits not seeming to lead a sim towards anything. I just picked out what hadn't been done and could lead me to something for their mausoleum. Also, having a sim who's not doing athletic challenge roll the trait is awful; I wasn't able to leave TVs on the lot because my athletic sixth generation would work out using them if I left him alone, which he couldn't do too much of, lest he invalidate my founder's challenges/skill certificate/etc.

Looking at this rule explanation by Rica,

Quote
Am I allowed to change the life state of my sim's spouse so I can use the Sim I want and get a new life state that I need?
-- Yes but only if you do it through legitimate means.  You are not allowed to change a spouse's life state using life state changing elixirs.  Spares also have no restriction on their ability to change life state.

Does this mean I could throw a potent cure at a spare I moved out? She's merrily causing havoc around town with love charms and I'd quite like to stop her. So glad I at least gave her the no jealousy reward before she left  ::)

Also if I know a sim isn't going to be used as a spouse am I free to throw a life state changing elixir at them? for example her poor cheated on human husband, her age is frozen and I'd quite like to make him a longer lived occult, If not I guess I could get one of my household to bite him, I'd just like a fairy over a vamp.

I have a solution for my athletic sim Trip, once he's all done, had his heir and made best friends with it, he's going into a hibernation chamber, so far he's constantly busy but he does try to sneak in a workout if I take my attention of him for a second, it's the only skill based trait he got so of course it's all he wants to do.
