Opinions on Moonlight Falls?
« on: September 08, 2012, 06:20:47 PM »
Heya everyone,

I've been busy with other games, but Supernatural and Seasons are still on my "I'll get around to this eventually" list. So far, the only neighbourhood I truly like is Appaloosa Plains, but I keep wanting to branch out more and had my hopes pinned on Moonlight Falls since there won't be a world to go with Seasons. How do people here like it? I hear it has quite a few empty lots, which is a plus in my book due to all the lot types from other EPs ... as long as the town does not feel "unfinished" in its basic state. Would there actually be enough room for the full-sized horse ranch and equestrian center, with a 60x60 or 64x64 left over for a big home? That's a biggie for me and a point where the other EA worlds fail. Also, does the "theme" of the town feel as strong as the promo screenshots want to imply?

If you would like to see comments and stuff on Moonlight Falls, it would probably be a good idea to read some of the threads that are currently going on in the Supernatural board.  Joria says that the town is very much like ones you would see in the Northwest.  There are screenshots in the First Impressions thread as well as some in the Supernatural Photos thread.

I personally like the town.   As for sizes, it doesn't have a lot of extra lots like say Sunlit Tides or Lucky Palms but it does have 1 residential 64 x 64 lot and 2 community 64 x 64 lots.

I enjoy the town.  It's like a mix between Appaloosa and Sunset Valley but leaning towards the darker side at times.

I quite like the new town too. I've only found one problem that would be really annoying if you weren't playing with cheats. In the central park the chess chairs aren't actually connected to the table so you can't play chess!

I really like all the lots and I love all the Supernatural hangouts.

I checked that thread, yes, but didn't see information about empty lot sizes. Three empty 64x64 lots is perfect, thank you!

And cheers for the pointer with the chess tables, I'll remember that when I get around to playing this. I have no qualms about an extensive use of Edit Town, especially since I'd have to manually outfit the homes with Pets items anyway.

I like Moonlight Falls so far.  It's not a sunny town and looks like it's cloudy and overcast all the time.  I like that, though, because bright Texas sun cooks my brain.  I really like the townie house I'm playing in, too.  I didn't have to do very much to it to make it nearly perfect for the family.  I haven't visited other homes yet.  I think my Sim needs to go visit her neighbors.

I do really like Moonlight Falls, but none of the pre-made towns suit my sims which I usually have like four or more when I create them because I can't help myself....Anyways, none of the homes are made for Faerie habitation at all, and the one that does have a garden is tiny. So, I just end up building my own because i'm not mean enough to actually evict sims from their fancy mansions or something.

To me one of the most important aspects of a town is a park.  What I do like in SV is the nice size Central Park.  It is in the center of the town, nice size, and has a little bit for all; swings for the kids (although generally adults are on them), chess, picnic tables and plenty of grassy spots to spread out a blanket for a picnic and not step on anyone.
There are few nice size lots in AP, 40 x 40 or even bigger.  Not enough good males either but you can't have everything, I created a spouse for my sim, now I just have to find ones for offspring.

RV is horrible for a park, the only one that fits is the Dogwood one which doesn't really have a place for adults, it is too cramped.  Plenty of larger size lots and some level spaces to create homes on them with Edit Town  And a better selection of males, George Dean is my favorite.
AP is even worse, there is no real park at all; at least one that I have found.  No swing sets, chess tables and picnic tables on a set lot.  Has plenty of nice size lots, and the families don't see to have as many problems as they do in SV.  I haven't started to really look for a spouse for kids yet, though; so not sure of what I will find.   I haven't found the saloon yet, probaly not recognizing it, won't look lik one from the old west.  Same in males, I guess I want too much in the male selections.

Getting back with the question in the orginal post, the size of the lots are important, the unfiinished feel (which SV and AP seem to have for me), and a park large enough for the family to have something; play area, chess and a picnic table.  Which RV and AP are lacking.
MF having the nice size of lots with homes on them or free to build on, a park and some nice males and females.  Not the "goody two shoes" type, just not majority of evil, insane, mean type of males/females is important to me.

I like it.  Mainly the scenery.  I also like ti because of it's inhabitants of course!  Haha.  I also like that you can find plants almost everywhere, well ok, maybe they don't exactly announce themselves, but you'll find them scattered here and there, either way it's more than sunset valley or any other town that I have.( I don't have all the towns. so I'm only judging by bp,sv,appaloosa plains, riverview, and twinbrook.)

I has grown on me, I must say. The dreariness reminded me of Twinbrook, but it's set out quite well, and from what I can see without opening it in CAW quite a lot of high quality spawners. It's somewhat easier to find sims here than in Apppaloosa Plains. And most of the houses are quite lovely.

I can't think of a map that's more collector-friendly than MF.  There are gems, seeds and insects absolutely everywhere (who needs the collection helper, just spin the camera!)  I usually play AP too, and edit town a bit to add whatever venue my sims need (AP, at least by the time I finish fiddling with it, reminds me a lot of Boulder, CO, which is nice). But MF is the first town that's giving AP serious competition for favorite map.  It's a compact map, and the lots (empty or otherwise) are big, which I like (why fill a map with tract housing if the game can't fill them all?). It has some nice amenities and it's a quick trip to get to them.  The town is not overrun with potential mates for a hetero female toon, but Belinda Crumplebottom and what's her name, the single mum with the changeling kid, are nice catches for a male toon.  I'm a little worried about how the map will play over several generations, what with the uneven aging, but we shall see.

Im starting to really like Moonlight Falls. The cold climate and many cloudy days seems to make the place feel as if it is filled with magic. There are a lot of large empty lots which is great. I havnt explored the townies yet because I have been to obsessed with Fairies xD
Hi Im new! Call me Forest or Boo.

I've enjoyed MF quite a bit.  It *is* dark - the comparison to Twinbrook is a fair one, especially to the swampier parts of TB.  I tend to hardly ever interact with a lot of townies so I'm not prepared to comment on that, but finally there are some houses that might get the same kind of love from me that Goth Manor does.

LOL,  I guess "dreariness"  is also subjective in perception ; such as idiot  reviewers who state there is too much sex in a book.   What is too much (sex) for one reader is mild to another reader.

I don't see it as dreary at all.  But what is normal for me wouldn't be for others; certain times of the years cloudy skies most of the time; spring and fall where it rains off and on almost every day, or sudden downpours so hard drivers pull off to wait it out; fog that is so thick that it isn't safe to drive in some areas.

I have used the Edit Town to add some colorful trees to let it look like fall.  We have a riot of colors here in the fall; bronze, gold, yellow, orange and red leaves cover the hills.

I really enjoy this town, the variety of house styles, large lots, interesting residents.  I think I will add some of my families to the town.  Good place to raise kids ;D.

The thing that bothers me, is that it's a lot like Bridgeport i the beginning without clubs. The Supernatural bars have TOO many fairies, etc. playing musical instruments and no one interacting (also there are no mixologists). I like the town layout; but, for ALL these night creatures (supernaturals) there are few places to have fun. I juiced up my Midnight Falls to give the townies more to do (casino, etc.). Also for careers, everyone seems to be in the music career. Go figure.

That is the only negative (so far) that I have seen that I want to fix; the entertainment for the adults.  I haven't visited the supernatural bars yet, except the Red Lounge, and there were only ghosts there.

The two dinning places are a total wasteof space as far as I am concerned.  There is no one around like you have in the other towns.  No tables outside, no other sims standing around talking, anything for social gathering to meet others.

I think I can add the diner and Bistro from SV to MF; at least I am hoping that I can do that.  Maybe other sims will show up there.  The park is nice, really like the central park but if you want to go on a date, hanging out at the park with the ghosts and others is not my idea of a good date.
Dinner, a movie, necking on the couch  :D, that is a nice date.
I don't have the other expansions, so that limits me in what I can add to the place.  It does sound livelier with that type of entertainment; but I want to keep it simple, more laid back, so I don't think that nightclubs fit what I want in MF.
