Baking in Ambitions?
« on: June 12, 2010, 02:28:58 AM »
I don't know if any of you guys have asked this question too. I mean, I've seen this tip that you should check the newspaper for baking prices if you want to hold a bake sale. Can someone please explain this to me? I really don't get it if there is or isn't. Plus, can a "baker" be self-employed? They also have this baking outfit in CAS.

Welcome to the Forum, keenveneracion!

The only thing I know of regarding baking in Ambitions is that children can bake more things with the toy oven, then they can sell them at a bake stand (similar to a lemonade stand).  The stand is portable and has to be loaded with baked goods from the child's inventory.  The child tends the table and collects the money if any Sims come by and buy cookies, brownies, etc.  I'm not sure if this is the same thing you're asking about.  I don't know that the newspaper is connected to what the children can do.

Checking the newspaper for the baking forecast is indeed part of the child's bake stand.  Kids can bake a few more goods now, in different flavors (vanilla, chocolate, and so on).  Every day the popularity of each flavor can go up or down, which a child may check in the newspaper, and then raise or lower the price of certain flavors of goods to maximize profit.

My toddler finally used his oven and table.  It was adorable,  I believe you can load the table up and take it to the park, I have not tried it yet, but I think that someone said that.  Will try here shortly.

That is so cool! Too bad they can't use it anymore once they grow up. :(

I do know that if you set it up in front of your house then random townies will come and buy stuff.  But be sure to pick it up when you're not using it, otherwise you'll have a bunch of random people in your front yard with nothing to do.

Haha that would be funny, but it would provide a great opportunity to meet some people for a sim needed friends for the Super Popular LTW or someone searching for a soul mate.

Had my little girl take the table to the park.  A lot more fun than in front of the house.  It was really cute.  She read the paper and found out what was selling and made it, so she sold quite a bit.

That is so cute, Salty. Wow. My entrepreneurial wheels are turning now. I wonder if you could piggy back that action for a kid with a guitarist nearby on the weekend where they would both benefit.

I tried the baking. My kid read the paper, saw that vanilla is in, so made 2 batches of vanilla muffins. Then since it was too late to sell that day, I put them in her inventory for the next day. One of them quickly went bad, so I put the other plate in the fridge, then back in her inventory when it was time to sell. I've had the stand set up in my yard for days and days but no one crowding my lawn. My kid put her remaining muffins on the table, and stood there tending it for hours, but no one came to buy. So I'm wondering, if the baking report is daily, how is my kid supposed to bake lots of stuff, and sell it all, in one day? Especially if the baked goods go bad (spoiled) so quickly, and no one buys the stuff? My kid doesn't have time to bake lots and sell before the next baking report of before it all goes off. If I leave it in the fridge, one of my sims might eat it.

Did you take the table to the park?  That is a pretty good place to go too.  I tried the house and I got too many people and then they would not leave. The do spoil quickly, I found that out.  I just make alot, unless I go to the park.  Have them get up early, like on sat or sun, bake a couple of each and then go to park, see if that helps.

I had such bad luck with this silly baking table that I just gave up finally.  Tried the park multiple times, but got very few customers.  Maybe location, maybe time of day, maybe just bad luck, I don't know.  Had the best luck at home actually, as far as customers showing up.

However, after one customer would buy, he would stand around, get bored and then try to talk to my child, taking her away from tending the stand!  Of course, then another customer would show up, but since nobody was available to take their order, that customer would leave.

Or, I'd have one customer that already bought something, start talking to another that hadn't.  When they got done talking naturally or I shooed them, the one that had not bought, would just leave!  Needless to say, it took me forever to complete the sell 5 baked goods in a day wish.  Argh!
