I've got a tip that got my most recent dynasty off to a good start. Wildflower collecting! Some flowers, such as Cosmos, aren't hard to find (you can find them in parks and other places) and can get 600 Simleons per bunch! And it means that you can buy some more furniture when you are still spouse hunting.

I just started a second attempt at a Dynasty, my first one hasn't failed yet but I'll run them both and switch between when I feel like I've had enough of one for the moment. This one is in moonlight falls. My founder married chauncey grimm. I'm considering moving one of two families in with us. The Ivy Family or the Durwood family. Both have two kids a boy and a girl.

Which would you choose. Grimm is friends with Rainflower Ivy and Serena Durwood. Each one could move in and make another child to marry mine.

OH! and I just found a rare snake at the local fishing hole. worth 650 :) I think ima keep it around for now.

Hmmm . . .

This is a little weird, but I would move in Serena Durwood and her son Zack. If the heir is a girl, the (fantastically handsome) Zack would be able to reproduce with her, or reproduce with female townies to make a few prospective spouses once he's older. Serena has a few points of Alchemy, which would come in handy when making Invigorating Elixirs for the Ice Personality challenge, and depending on what you're having Chauncey do she can garden or fish, and have Chauncey paint and sculpt. Zack, on the other hand, can be kept busy skilling up in painting and sculpting to take over once Chauncey dies.

Of course, Rick Durwood can also be moved in for gardening skill, but then you'd also have to bring Zoe and I don't see what she could do besides take up space, and gardening is easy enough with a lot of breathing space to skill. In addition, Rick dislikes Chauncey, which isn't a huge factor but might make things a little tense. Also, since Serena is (obviously) a girl, she could just invite her husband over and Try for Baby with him if you want a spouse for Gen 2, although I would beware of Rick's lovely ears.

If, on the other hand you were to go with the Ivy's, I'd recommend moving in Annalove and Peanut. Annalove, with her Gatherer trait, would make an excellent gardener while Peanut, with a level 2 painting skill, could take over painting. You could have him skip school for this, since artists generally make plenty of lifetime happiness points for a mid-life crisis. Again, you could move in Rainflower but then you'd have to move in Dreamer Ivy, too, which I can't see as serving any purpose. Chauncey could sculpt with Peanut taking over once he dies, and Annalove could reproduce with Rainflower for a spouse. I don't know what Peanut looks like grown up, but he's a cute kid so he might also be a potential spouse. Check out Sims Wiki for more.

In my opinion, the two families are quite evenly matched. I think it's basically a toss-up between Annalove's Gatherer trait, and Serena's witchery and alchemy skill, while the Durwoods can make quite lovely children but Annalove and Rainflower may have a better chance of producing a decent spouse. Overall, I'd go with the Durwoods as Zack really is a lovely young man capable of producing beautiful children (if you don't believe me, check out ombradellarosa's Callahan Life States Dynasty) and the alchemy skill can really be a lifesaver when trying to crank out 25 ice sculptures, with gardening generally being easy to skill up in no time with a large enough garden.

However, it all really depends on your founder's supermax and what you're planning to have Chauncey do., since you might not need a specific skill from your helpers. I hope this helped! Sorry about all the text--I'm kind of a long-term strategist. Good luck!

I know from a different save (not dynasty related) that peanut is a coward. and Yes Chauncey is disliked by Rick and those EARS!  I guess I could always pick two of each. instead of the whole family.

oh and chauncey wanted to learn the gardening skill so while my founder started the garden I'll probably get him to help out.

I know rainflower's daughter is a teen, are the Durwood kids teens aswell? or are they children? if theyre teens, the new baby might not age fast enough for them to mate.

Cowards are easy enough to handle--just lock them in their bedroom when Bonehilda comes around. Personally, I try to move in as few people as possible, since space is everything in a dynasty house. Everyone has a different strategy, though.

The Durwoods are children, but even if they were teens, the age difference would be quite creepy but the older male sim could marry the young female heir--that is, if the heir is a girl!

I was about to step in and put a good word in for Zack but Azo-chan beat me to it! Thanks for the reference to my story as well ;D I have been looking down the line at the future generations not in the story yet and let me tell you, Zack has some lovely contributions to make to the gene pool ;) I agree though, try not to have too many people in the house as that has failed dynasties before when someone failed to die and they couldn't reproduce in time. That said, my Immortal Dynasty house currently has 7 people in it, including two generations. Just make sure you plan it well enough that you don't fail.

I tried getting Annalove Ivy to move in but her and Chauncey are stranger's and they got bored way too fast. I ended up taking in the entire Durwood household. So once the new baby is born the house will be full. The Durwood's include an elder woman who I am assuming is Serena's mother. I'm considering eating lots of watermelons to ensure this baby is a girl. With the two teens in the house I won't need to make the Durwood's try for another kid. and before the baby is a YA the elder should have died already.

then later on. when the baby and one of the durwood kids makes a baby they'll just have to wait for the 3 mortal parents to die. any kid of the other sibling wouldnt be allowed to mate to make gen 3 so a new person will have to come in. etc etc.

edit: RIGHT NOW. the baby is about to come out and Zoe just got grounded by Chauncey. She's evil rofl

(fixed my problem :) )

Glassdahl, you want to avoid what is called double-posting. If no one comments on the thread after your last post (especially if they are only three minutes apart) just use the Modify button to add an Edit to your post. This keeps the Forum from becoming cluttered.

Edit: It can look like this, although I didn't actually go through the whole process, this is just to show you.

Good luck having enough space!

Oops, my bad. I might have gotten a little bit excited.

Edit: Is it just me or is Seasons just annoying for a dynasty attempt? Your plants go dormant and it rains etc. Oh, I found the life fruit bush in Moonlight Falls. It wasn't harvest ready.

Seasons shouldn't be a huge challenge for gardeners. Just build a greenhouse. If you plant during the dormant season, they'll stay dormant for about a day, then should be fine.

I'm sorry for asking this question. But, how do I build a greenhouse? I never have experience with this before.

The short answer is "however you want."

The long answer is that you just need a room and moveobjects on to move plants indoors onto the floor. I like to add windows too, but those are optional.

It's actually covered a couple of times in this thread and the immortal dynasty one.    All you have to do is build a room you plan on only using for plants.  I never use flooring.

Then either with the MoveObjects on cheat or with one wall temporarily missing - plant the plants within the room.   You can also plant them outside and move them inside by either removing a wall or using MoveObjects on.   Then just close up the wall or turn off MoveObjects and you've got a greenhouse.

It's weather proof if the walls are all connected and there is a roof overhead.

Does building a greenhouse that way present anyone with problems regarding money trees? One of mine is stuck at "harvest" for 3 Sim days now, and the option to actually harvest it doesn't appear (nor does my gardening immortal-to-be harvest it when he goes around the garden). If it doesn't work in another couple of days I'm going to have to pick another career track, I think... not a game-breaker, just need to know for sure!

I had a few plants like that.  They never became harvestable.  I hoped they'd be good in spring or summer but no such luck.  After those seasons, I just disposed of the plants.
