Real Estate pains
« on: June 11, 2010, 01:42:47 PM »
So I'm dabbling in the new real estate biz and I've come across one incredible inconvenience.. getting my money!  Pre-Ambitions I could just click on the deeds in my inventory and select 'collect money from all' but with the new interface that isn't an option anymore.  Now to collect I have to make a phone call, navigate a sub-menu to the desired property, then lastly click collect money; I have to do this process one at a time for every property I own (currently about 20).  Alternatively, I can select 'collect money' from the actual building viewed from map mode, but I'm having problems keeping track of where I've collected and where I haven't.

Anyone else have any experience with the new system?  Am I missing some magic button?

Tom, my doctor only momentarily dabbled in real estate but did it via his laptop. I didn't even know about all the new possibilities until he got a Own a Venue wish. I read the description and it said stuff can be purchased on a computer. I checked it out and it seemed straightforward enough, but like I said, he didn't get far. But, check out real estate stuff on a computer and see if things are organized for you for collecting. It would be nice if it all payments could be handled via computer compared to the old days of having to go to each location to pick up payments.

I just check on my real estate on my computer under the ALL PROPERTIES tab, highlight the first property and click on the button at the bottom (the middle one - folder with the $ on it).  Mine is currently greyed out as I just collected my rents on Monday.
I do this for each property then my sim just zips along happily collecting the rent.  ;D

My Sim family owns about 9 properties now, so I zoom out to the bird's-eye view of the town and click on each of the properties with stars to "collect money".  It's a pain, but at least all of the actions are lined up at once.  When I send my Sim home, I have him "check real estate" with the phone to make sure I got them all.  The buildings will have one star for partners, or three stars for full owners, but the community lots you own will have 1-3 stars depending on how much you have upgraded them.  At least they should be relatively easy to identify.

mtglady that's what I'm talking about, I have to access the interface through the computer each time I want to collect money from a property.  I miss the deeds from pre-AMB.  I now own every property, fully upgraded, and it's quite a chore to go through that interface 25 times.  I've been doing the same thing as sims96fan.  I guess I'm just frustrated that a 'new and improved' method wasn't quite what I expected.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hey, the normal deeds system isn't gone is it?
This new system is for all other community lots. For example, you can buy the salon by clicking on it as before, but not the graveyard (which you can buy with your computer).

Yes Swede, the deeds are no longer in your inventory.  You must manage everything through the computer/clicking on business to collect.

Was just going to say that, lol.  I found that out the hard way.  Went into my sims inventory that owned all of the buildings and no deeds. I about flipped.  My other sim was on the computer and there it was, real estate.  The good thing, the whole house has access to the properties and you don't have to transfer deeds anymore, so if the sim dies, you can still access the properties, unless the deeds went in someone elses inventory, not sure, never had someone die with all that property until now and that was after ambitions was installed.

Yeah Salty, when someone dies, EVERYTHING including the deeds get transferred to the a family member, and from my experience, that's the closest related family member, like spouse or first-born child.

I think doing it through the computer saves time, now Daphne Character won't have to go to about 10 different venues to collect the weekly 60,000!  :D

How are you guys doing this computer method?  When I do it it's exactly the same as using the phone, when I highlight a property and hit Collect Money the window closes and my Sim takes off in her car.

I haven't done it many times and I was talking about the old deeds being transferred to the Computer.

Yes, the deeds are now on the computer, but your Sim must still go to each business to collect.  The only thing that this has done for us is to take the deeds out of our inventory and store them on the computer.

And if they were truly bringing the digital age to Sims 3, all the money would just instantly transfer to your family funds instead of having to drive all over town.  I mean, who does that anymore?  :)

When I first realized that everything was on the computer, I "thought" that you would be able to just click and they would transfer too, but, what was I thinking.  That would be too easy, silly me.
