Babels tower

This is my first topic on this forum. I want to show the house I been working on this summer. The idea for this house was to make a kind of crazy fantasy "tower" with rooms for "everyting"

Its made in Riverview. I started by putting my sims in a smal affordable lot, and they had to earn the money to buy the big lot, and gradualy expand it when they made the simileons to do so. The ingametime is 21 weeks and 5 days.
The lot value is 1,446,870 unfurnished and 2,413,942 furnished
The lot size is 64x64
I have used the expansion packs: World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations and Pets
And the stuff packs: High-End Loft Stuff, Fast Lane Stuff, Outdoor Living Stuff, Town Life Stuff and Master Suite Stuff














I will add on my blogg room by room with some comments. But it is alot of rooms, so I need some time


I dont know how to make the sim3pack file yet, but I added a video showing the house floor by floor.

Update: I made the sim3pack file, and added it. If you got ideas for new rooms, I would love to hear them. Especially sport halls or culture halls that fit with sims objects and behavior.

Some more information about the house:
It got a total of 10 usable floors. 5 above ground floors, 4 basements, and the roof. I still got more emty space to fill, but at this point I got:
31 bedrooms, and about the same number of bathrooms, depending on the definition of a bathroom.
4 bars/late night entertainment rooms
3 museums/display rooms



2 gyms
2 indoor gardens
a indoor playland for kids
a makeover room
a videogame room
a tattoo room
a videoediting room
a library
a 6-lane 40m track for sprinting
a tenniscourt



a maze



an olympic 8-lane 50m swimminpool



and alot of undefined rooms and hallways

Wow you built this from scratch the hard way! Goodness me! I can see why it took all summer!! I'm impressed. I wouldn't have the patience to do that... although I guess that's what I'm doing with my legacy family in a way.

Yes, its been alot of work. Im not happy with everything, but I got alot of ideas underway, that I am proud of. I hope I can be a inspiration for others

My first update, is about the 5. floor. I was starting to run out of ideas for my house, and ended up experimenting with guestrooms with a hotel look.





I liked the look of it, and desided to keep it. I think my favorit things is the view from the rooms into the roofpool and also the red hallways. The rooms between the roomhallway and the stairhallway become a bar/lounge and a entertainmentroom. There is also a diningarea without a stove, so guest wont make a bigger mess then needed

The rooms are mirrored 2 and 2.



The second main part of this floor is a veterancar museum. I had to go trough all the gameobjects to make it look like a museum and not a 5th floor garage. But in the end I think the result is ok.





This floor also got a hallway with windows looking down in the playland for kids and a ordinary looking livingroom.

One part I am not happy about on this floor, is the access. I would like to have a main stairway going all the way up, but I cant because then I need to destroy rooms I realy want to keep

Its the Fee fie foe fence. It can be a bit pain in the ass, but add the fence first, or with pool on only one side. Then you make pool on the other side. If it wont make pool, you have to delete the fence, and add it again in the other direction.

This pool is what I am most proud of in the house. I googled for poolmeasurements to make it as close to a real olympic swimmingpool as possible

This is overwhelming. in my history of playing sims, I've built 4 64x64 lots that are huge and none of them are as detailed as yours. It's still rough around the edges but if you have the time you could update it regularly.

And I agree. It's a bit rough around the edges. Especially the outside. The main problem is the cubelook that dont fit in at all with the surroundings. Another thing is making the windows fit the rooms inside, without making the outside wall look unsymmetric. Some parts of the inside also show signs of the gradualy building process, and not having a complete plan of the house, from the start

If you got some advice or suggestions, I would love to hear them

I found one of your houses, and it was not rough around the edges. ;) Great work!

Seeing this reminds me of the Antilia, located in Mumbai, India.  Apparently, it's the world's largest and most expensive home ever built.  It is 27 stories, just under 400,000 square feet and cost about $1 - $2 billion to construct.   

Anyway, I've downloaded your lot and look forward to exploring it.  I possibly have a couple of ideas, but I'll examine it in more detail before I suggest anything.

I would like to start by saying how impressed I was with this lot.  Even more impressive is the fact that you made it from scratch, without cheating.  In many ways I prefer that it grew organically and that you had no set plan.  I always enjoy exploring intricate lots like this. 

Before I could explore, I had to place it, this took almost 10 minutes.  lol   At least it was worth the wait.  I liked how you incorporated the atriums inside the house.  Also, using water walls, which is always a nice effect.  The olympic pool is brilliant.  The maze.  I could go on and on.

There doesn't leave much left as far as suggestions are concerned.  You pretty much covered everything.  Saying that, I do have one or two.  Mostly, mine involve using CC I have.

First of all, I thought a private train station placed in the basement somewhere could be a decent idea.  In other words, your sims are THAT rich, they even have their own train route.  lol  There is a really nice modern train station set that I have.  You can find the link to the download here; *Link Removed due to CC*  He's also created a train station lot that uses the items.  I found it useful when I first downloaded the set.   

Another idea I have used is to have some rooms set up as a scene from nature.  The best way I can describe it is; the Museum of Natural History in New York has a section with different wildlife scenes using stuffed animals, fake plants etc.  The display room would be completely sealed and would have only a huge display window on one wall.  You could devote a section housing different displays.  The basement would be perfect.  Especially if the area where the sims walk is kept dim and the displays bright.  There are some really nice creations that I use for this, they can be found here in the animal section; *Link Removed due to CC*  She has a decent selection of many different animals.  I like the sea animals because you can incorporate them into a pool.

One part I altered was the corner that houses the big airplane statue.  In its place I put 3 big T-Rex skeletons I have.  I also have one or two other fossils, so I made that a bit of a fossil section.  The T-Rex I downloaded from; *Link Removed due to CC*  He also has dinosaurs too, so you can use those too for my previous suggestion.  My other fossils were converted from TSM and can be found here; *Link Removed due to CC*

Yes, I agree.  It is a bit of a problem making a cubelook look less cubelike.  I would imagine it was similar designing the Antilia.  Now that I have explored your lot, it struck me even more how similar it looks to your design.  I think the best way I have found to overcome the cubelook problem is to use different patterns and colours highlighting the different sections on the outside.  Personally, I hate using solid bright colours like white in my game because the glare is too much. Columns can also help break up the sections. 

Finally, I don't know if you use the fog emitters in the 'buydebug' section.  I love them.  There are ALOT of really good effects you can make with them.  My favourite is using them to create a live shark tank in a swimming pool.  I use one I downloaded from; http://www.modthesims.info/d/448593  This one is a simple override and is handy because you can place the emitter at any height, like a painting.  You can find fog emitter effects lists easily enough using google.

Well that's about all I have to say.  Thanks for sharing this lot, exploring it was alot of fun.  I hope you like my suggestions and links.

I especially liked the Museum of Natural History idea.
The trainstation I have to think about. It would be cooler if you actually could use it. But I liked the pictures in the link.
I think I got a bug on the fog emitters and the discolights. But a shark tank also would be cool.


My next update is a closer view of my roof. The idea was to have a pool going along the edges all the way around, but some leveling errors from floors further down went trough all the floors, all the way to the roof, and I wasn't able to do it. My main problem was making the roof look more like a open air room, then just a roof. The insideparts helpt a bit, so did the halfwalls and the columns, but its not perfect.



The pool divide the roof in two parts. A the main part is a "guest"-area, and the smal part in the back is lookoutpoint for the master bedrooms.

The roof got two underroof areas. One is a overpass with stairs to the roof and a view down into the playroom :

No problem for the delay responding, I completely understand.  I'm really pleased you liked some of my ideas.  I agree that the train station would be excellent if you could interact with it. 

You mentioned a bug with your disco lights.  I had a similar problem with the new lights in Supernatural not working.  If it's the same bug then the culprit is from a no mosaic file.  Apparently, some no mosaics interfere with the disco lights and I believe they can affect the fairy wings too.

Shame you couldn't get the pool the way you wanted, I hate when that happens.

Fences for safety are a good idea, you don't want drunken sims falling in the pool.  Best to avoid a nasty lawsuit. ;) 

In one of my houses, I made a private nightclub in the basement that covers 2 floors.  The upper area is a balcony/game room with video games, pool table etc.  This overlooks the lower level which is 2 stories high with pool walls at one end.  The pool wall on the lower level had to go one tile in but the effect still looks good.  On the lower level is yet another pool on the ground that surrounds the DJ stand and a dancefloor.

Finally, just wanted to mention something else I have done.  I have a gym with a steam room.  The party FX machine set for fog gives a great steam effect.  Alternatively, you can use the fog emitter (once you fix your bug) on the default setting.  Out of the two, the FX machine seems to give a better effect in my opinion.
