Chapter Six -- …and a Beginning

Elaine had made it clear that she didn’t want a big wedding. If her father had still been alive to give her away, it would have been different. But lace and satin and seed pearls just weren’t her style, so the only people in attendance were the two of us.

Afterwards, we made an effort to bring in the next generation. Neither of us heard the baby music, so we decided we needed more practice.

Elaine confided that her favorite color was pink, so I encouraged her to dress in that color more often, even if it wasn’t as “practical” as brown and blue denim. She got a haircut, too.

The next morning she re-decorated the kitchen, incorporating not just pink, but also my favorite color, lime green.

I went to see Dad later on in the day. I’d heard a rumor that he’d gotten involved with another woman, and I wanted to know if it was true.

He admitted it when I confronted him, but said that of course he grieved for my mother and always would.

The whole incident left me with an unsettled feeling, which I expressed in my painting.

That night we had an unexpected visitor. The officer who arrived on the scene couldn’t help laughing at the burglar. “That’s the head of our forensics division, you numbskull,” she said. “Didn’t you case the joint first?”

The visit from the burglar reminded me that I needed to do something to secure our household from zombies. I removed the gate that couldn’t be locked (the garden is still accessible from the house) and put in pea-shooters across the driveway and front sidewalk.

Elaine loves gardening, so I always know where to find her.

After a few minutes of tickling, we did some more “practicing.”

I think we finally got it right.

I'm shocked at the news that Hunter has moved on already.
LOL at that burglar: either extremly brave... or extremely unprepared.
How nice that Orion can still tickle Elaine, even if she is cured from being a werewolf.
I like this update a lot. :)

You did indeed ( get it right )! Good job guys!

@SimBlip, the tickling is an interaction for newlyweds. It is not really a werewolf thing.  :)

Chapter Seven – Elaine Writes a Letter

Elaine couldn’t put it off any longer; she had to write to her father. She hadn’t communicated with him much since he’d become a vampire and moved to Bridgeport. She’d felt that her life would seem too incredibly boring to someone who was dining out regularly in the nightclubs and bars. And she also felt resentful. After all, her parents had brought her to Riverview to grow up in a “wholesome” environment; for one to go back to the city seemed a bit absurd.

Dear Dad,

By now, you’ve probably heard that I got married to Orion Cottoneye. He’s the son of Hunter and Constance Cottoneye, whom you may remember as Constance Shelley.

Elaine stopped and chewed on her pen. Should she mention that he was incredibly kind and gave great massages? Probably not.

Should she describe what a miserable experience giving birth had been? No.

I thought you might like to know that you’re a grandpa!

We named him Jaeger, after Orion’s father, who died recently, Jaeger being German for Hunter.

He's been growing like a weed, maybe because he loves to eat.

I’ve done some re-decorating since you left, and this is what the living room looks like.

I’ve quit being a werewolf and taken up witchery instead. These are some of the things I’ve transformed from lettuce and apples – a koi fish, a silver-spotted butterfly and a zebra butterfly.

I’ve also been working on my lifetime wish to become a culinary librarian.

I hope all is well with you. Write sometime, or better yet, come visit!

 Love, Elaine

As Elaine posted her letter, she realized that she’d left out one piece of news. Well, it could wait until the next letter.

This is such a clever way of writing. Brilliant, Marian! :)

PS:
Oops, I didn't know newlyweds can tickle each other. I must try it, but maybe I just do not have the EP's for it.

Hello there, Jaeger! And good-bye, Hunter! You will be missed!

SimBlip, the interaction is called "Be Frisky", I think.

Chapter Eight – Sleep Deprivation

Neither Elaine nor I can remember the last time we got a good night’s sleep. We were doing just fine when there was only Jaeger. He’s quite the little man now, going potty all by himself. I think he'll favor Elaine when he grows up.

He and I had several interesting conversations while I was teaching him how to talk.

“Your grandfather said you might see aliens by the time you grow up.”

   “Aliens!”

“He was right about the zombies, so it’s possible he’ll be right about the aliens, too.”

   “Aliens!”

Jaeger loves being outdoors, so Elaine and I have been thinking that he might take up gardening.

“You plant the seeds in the garden, and after a few weeks, they begin to bloom.”

   “Seeds go boom!”

Then again, he might become a musician, since he’s been investigating the different tonal qualities produced when the xylophone mallet is wet.

Anyway, we were doing well with Jaeger, and then the next one came along.

Both Elaine and I had been expecting a girl, so we didn't have a name ready. We both came up with "Peter," and too late realized the association. I hope he doesn't get teased about being Peter Cottontail.

I don’t remember much about Peter’s babyhood, except that I had to get up in the middle of the night to keep his swing going. He’s turned into a fairly handsome child (Elaine thinks he looks like me).

Peter seems to live in a world of his own, maybe because he doesn’t get our undivided attention. Elaine asked him what he was doing the other day, and he said, “Dwagon waces.”

Since neither of us has started teaching him to talk yet, the answer came as a surprise. Elaine thinks he’s inherited her witching ability. She’s been doing most of the child care – teaching him how to walk, etc.

That’s because I’ve been painting in my spare time, working on a series commissioned by the Riverview Town Council. Ordinarily I’d have said no, but the money is just too good to pass up.

And we need it for another small addition to the house. That’s right – we didn’t get much sleep last night because Elaine went into labor again.

We’re naming her Joy.

It’s probably too soon to tell, but I think she’s inherited my mother’s eyes.

So many nooboos!

Jaeger and Peter are little bundles of adorableness. Can't wait to see Joy's toddlerhood.

Funny how Joy's name is Elaine's last name. Are all the spare girls names going to be connected? Hope, Joy, Faith etc.?

I think Orion and Elaine must be living in a far more secured area. They have two children, but have not met any Zombies yet .
So far, so good!  :)
