When the Zombies Come -- a Cottoneye Decadynasty (COMPLETED)

Oh wow, what a fantastic way to introduce a DecaDynasty! Awesome start, good luck, I hope that peashooter serves you well, and I anticipate some zombies in the future - safely behind a pane of glass, of course. Please tell me that an image of a zombie does not, in itself, become a zombie. (And that's the third time today that I've misquoted Dr. Who.)

Chapter Four – Bunker Babies, part 1

   “I knew I shouldn’t have tried Hunter’s piranha sushi,” Constance moaned one morning.



A little while later, she realized she was pregnant.
 


   “It’s a boy,” announced Hunter.

   “Well, it could be a g--“

   “I’ve got a name for him already. You’ll like it. It’s real classy.”



   A little while later…”Hunter, we need to consider whether this is a good environment for a child. I know the chain link fence will keep the zombies out, but do we really want—“

   “Do you think he’d like red shoes?” mused Hunter.  “I really wanted red shoes when I was a kid. ‘Course, I’d have been happy with any shoes, ‘specially when walking across gravel.  Or hot asphalt – that was the worst. Or maybe hot gravel would be worse than that. I don’t know. Did you have red shoes when you were little?”

   “I – I don’t remember, Hunter. If you’ll excuse me, I should get back to the horror novel I’m writing.”



   The moment finally arrived, and Constance realized that she had a new fund of pain to draw upon for her novels.



Someone was screaming, and Constance became dimly aware that it was Hunter. She didn’t know what he was carrying on about. Were the zombies attacking?



   Suddenly it was all over, and Constance was holding a baby boy. “His name is Orion,” said Hunter. “Like Orion the Hunter. Don’t you think that’s a classy name?”

   “Yes,” said Constance. “It’s perfect.”

I am really enjoying this so far! Can't wait to see how Hunter handles things when the zombies finally do arrive. Where are Constance's lovely new PJs from? Congratulations on the nooboo. I am looking forward to more.

Chapter Five – Will the Zombies Come?

   Hunter Cottoneye was in a quandary. He needed to go fishing somewhere other than his back yard pond if he wanted to make good money, but he hated leaving Constance and the baby at night.
 


   On the other hand, he couldn’t go during the day. “Where are the zombies, Hunter? Hahahaha!” That was what people would say, and he hated it when people laughed at him. Last night there had been a full moon, and he was sure the zombies would show up, but it had been peaceful.



   Hunter knew the zombies existed. He had seen them in his mind’s eye, and he knew they were out there. Plus the Watcher had said they were coming.



   Had the Watcher been wrong? Had it all been…hallucination? This thought was so upsetting that Hunter got back out of the car. He played catch for a while with the pea-shooter, keeping it in fighting trim for when the zombies did appear.



Then he went inside and played dive bomber with Orion, who laughed in delight. “Just be grateful he doesn’t have anything to bomb with,” commented Constance.



   The next morning started a very special day – Orion’s birthday. Hunter wasn’t happy to see him in pink pajamas, but otherwise he was a fine little fellow.



   Constance took him into the bedroom, and he soon emerged in new clothes – camouflage, just like his dad.



   “C’mon, son,” said Hunter. “Time to inspect the perimeter.”

Eisande, Constance's sleepwear came from Master Suite, a stuff pack I originally thought I would never get. I got it on sale, though, and have used it quite frequently.
