Mycelium gardening stage
« on: September 01, 2012, 01:52:12 AM »
Messing around with a new family I noticed something strange - when grandpa learned gardening and planted the seeds he got in his inventory, the apple tree appeared fully grown and when I hovered over it it said "Growth stage: Mycelium". Given I just installed a new patch and the first thing I found on google was a 7 hour old thread on the official forums going "what the heck is this?" I'm assuming it's new for the Supernatural release, and I'm switching to a more gardening orientated family to play around and see if I can figure out more about it.

Incidentally, mycelium is a mushroom growth and among the science-babble on wikipedia is the line, "The mycelium of mycorrhizal fungi increases the efficiency of water and nutrient absorption of most plants and confers resistance to some plant pathogens."

I just noticed this as well. So far, it hasn't changed from that state but it's only been a day.

Perhaps the seeds that the grandpa got, will grow more efficiently? Just a wild guess! I haven't have this happen to me so far, but I haven't played in about a few days.

Maybe it has something to do with Mycenas, which I believe are an Alchemy ingredient coming in Supernatural.

After I believe it was two days, the state changed to sprout.

Wouldn't that mean because of the Mycelium, the growing stage would be longer? Or were you using grapes, and that's why it turned into a sprout two days later?

It wasn't grapes, I had planted an unknown seed that has the vine look to it. I'll test it out more later today when I'm back in game.

In my gardening family I planted a bunch of new things. Two got the mycelium stage quite soon, but then a day or so later went back to sprout and the remaining ones went to mycelium. At this point the two original ones (apple and eggplant) are up to growing and the others are still on mycelium - I feel like the eggplant is growing faster than normal to be keeping pace with the apple but I haven't been counting the days properly to be sure, especially since it's fertilised as well.

I'm able to plant seeds inside a Sims house. I planted a seed in a bathroom and it worked like normal, no problem. I don't understand this, before I could only plant in grass or dirt, the bathroom was tiled.

That is a Supernatural feature, I think, and I'm fairly sure it was included with the 1.38 patch.

I've updated, but when I heard of indoor planting I assumed it would be an item not just being able to plant in any room of a Sims house. Can dirt be put inside a house?

It's happened with all the planting I've done. Everything has gone through that stage, including death flower plants, and money trees. YAY! For knowing it's a money tree so early.

It's a glitch with gardening right now that all plants instead of just mushrooms are seeing a mycellium gardening stage.  The glitch is bad enough that sometimes the plant with stick and you won't get anything from it.

This has actually been brought up a lot with the Patch 1.38 thread and there is another thread about this already as well so I'm going to merge them.

Other than it going through that stage, I haven't had a problem with it. Could be that my game was started after I did the patch, so the other glitches aren't happening for gardening. Although Sunshine does occasionally just eat something from her inventory, even though I have needs maxed and static.

Yeah from watching it further I was suspecting it was a glitch because it didn't seem to DO anything.

Thrilled for indoor gardening though. Even though I'm going to be working for most of between now and Supernatural and then I'm planning on creating a fairy who lives outside, so it's not actually going to matter much... :P
