As for how active story progression was early on: yes, it got a little frustrating if you played multiple households and found your sims saddled with a random pathogenesis baby or a spouse you never expected. Or perhaps dead. But you know what, c'est la vie. A game with an open-world needs things like that to happen. Anything to prevent the town from surrendering to the clone-army almost as soon as you open it.

I agree.  I preferred it the way it was originally.

I don't know how people get through 10 generations with just EA's story progression. My towns always turn into ghostville by the end of generation one. Sometimes a town will last till generation two, but that's not very common.

I've had that problem.  I'm up to my sixth generation, and besides her two cousins, my sim has no classmates.  People just aren't having kids.

It's really frustrating if your playing a dynasty, because all townies that move in have the same facial structure. So children will look the same generation after generation.

Yes! My adult sim and her husband are identical except for eye and hair colour, and skin tone.  I'm not really sticking to the rules of the dynasty, so I had to resort to actually creating families and inserting them, just to get some variety happening.  ???

I haven't really noticed much besides original townies getting old. I have not updated my game at all, I do not have any expansion packs. I am attempting a legacy, so I'll keep my eyes on story progression for you. See if the original townie's blood stays in town.

Children of original townies I've noticed.
A male child to the Alto's, and a female one to Claire Ursine. I'll find Claire's daughter's father, and more children born in town.

My second generation is a teen, I've cheated her older a couple of times.
I'll give more info and you can analyze to your heart's content.

Since you're not updated, what patch are you on?

I know this thread has been dead for about five months, but something happened in my game.

I was playing my dynasty and my sim was in France, and he ran across this little French boy at the market. His name was Adrian Beaumont, and he was clearly the child of original French townie Jean Luc Beaumont (and even if he's not, he isn't a generic-faced kid either). He wasn't anywhere in my sims' family tree (just in case the mysterious foreign child bug popped up again), so I'm stumped as to how this happened.

If this means foreign townie babies are a possibility, you might hear some high-pitched squeal of joy from Massachusetts. Just a warning.

(And no, the main world isn't producing any babies without my help)

That is exciting.   Would you be willing to make a copy of that file and invite him into the house to see his origins?  I had my first marriage in over a year the other day.

My file crashed to desktop soon after I saw that kid (a sign?), but I had my save from a few hours before going to France that might work. If he's there, that is.

Funny enough, this is the first time that story progression is doing absolutely nothing in Twinbrook. With the Graves and Claviculas, I sometimes saw sims in steady relationships. Now? Nothing. I have access to a ton of family trees due to the sprawling connections of my sims, and everyone is embracing the single life.

EDIT: I went back to France (needed to anyways; those recipes and Visas don't get themselves). I saved after going to France and made a copy. My findings:

- The Fouchiers had another son named Zacharie. I shift-clicked Henri Fouchier and added him to the family to get a glimpse at his family tree (Zach ran off somewhere). Zacharie is Henri's little brother. Oddly enough, the Fouchier mom is dead.

- Adrian Beaumont is nowhere to be found. Some kid named Remy Beaumont lives in town, but I can't find Jean Luc and Remy is generic-faced, and a teenager. Don't know what to think there.

And that's it. Seeing that there's a little Fouchier in France without my help, I feel like I've witnessed some sort of miracle of life. :D

I had my first marriage in over a year the other day.

Strangely enough, the first marriage I saw in a very long time (and haven't seen since, sadly) was in my Life States file, when Gen3's twin sister was evicted, then got married autonomously.

Susie Broke and Travis McDermott got married in my dynasty, that came as a big surprise, normally the only marriages in my games are EA clones who marry the same day they move into town.

I do remember babies being born in my early games, it seems like a dream now. I had hoped maybe Susie and Travis might have a child but they both grew old without having children.

My dynasty town is dead already and getting deader by the day, my founders daughter has only just hit adult but the town was dying off before she started school, she married an 84 day old elder as there just wasn't anybody else, but he was an original townie so at least I have kept the clone features away for another generation.

I just wish it still let the townies have kids, I hate these clone towns, maybe the future of a more diverse town will be the result of building a DNA bank and growing your own spouse.

"hmm this generation I think I will have some Thornton Wolff genetics."

Science, it's the future!

I saw another French original townie offspring, this time a young man named Sebastian Morel. Considering he was out with Pascal Morel and looks like Pascal (that, and the other Morels are dead), I'm 99% sure that he's Pascal's son.

I don't know what to say to this. I'm not seeing any babies back in Twinbrook that aren't there because of me, and since this is a dynasty, I'm not using any mods. Weird.

This really makes me want to pack up my colorful pollinators and send them on a trip to France! It would be really awesome if it worked. Are you just visiting France, Trip, or did you buy a house in town? I wonder if that makes any difference?

There are two French kids born at (presumably) different times. Zacharie Fouchier (mentioned some posts back) was born while my sims didn't own a vacation home, and I didn't notice Sebastian Morel until after I had a vacation home.

I know story progression always handled the vacation worlds a little differently - I think it only makes checks for relationships and children if you went back a second (or successive) trip, and the youngest possible foreign sims were at the Child life stage.
