No babies being born.
« on: August 28, 2012, 09:29:28 AM »
I have played eight generations in Lunar lakes and no babies have been born new townies move in and they sometimes have children and teens that attend the local schools. Opening a day care centre just generated toddlers belonging to the papparazzi. The same thing in my third generation Sunset Valley game. I read the paper every day but no babies are being born at all.

Is it just my game,is anyone else having this problem. I don't want an influx of toddlers but it would be nice if Story Progression gave my town a mix of orriginal townies genes rather than just new townies moving in all the time, and lets face it the new townies all seem to look exactly the same.
If Mods were not banned in challanges I would be tempted to use a mod to resolve this.

There's nothing really that you can do for it, it's the way that EA Story Progression is built. If you want a break to split things up, you can use multiple save folders to install an alternative Story Progression mod, which is what I do. I have five Sims 3 folders with mods installed (all with different setups, depending on the needs of the save files in them) and one without for my Dynasty, and I swap them around when I feel like it. As far as I'm aware, there is no fix for the EA story progression that doesn't involve a mod.

I am sure that it hasn't always been that way though. I know that I have played many legacy type games and babies have been born to townies. It just seems like it is something that something that has started happening pretty recently.

That is the problem with EA Story progression. Download Twallan's Story Progression and you will never go back.
I love The Sims 3/4.

Join the architect career at the beginning of the game, or have a spare do it. Place cribs in every home, and hope for the best.

I tried that in my decadynasty, though I've been moving in male townies left and right so they can enjoy some woohoo with the local ladies.

I think it varies depending on the town you're playing in. I haven't used EA Story Progression outside of my dynasty since 2011, and on my really old saves, I can't remember getting any pregnancies to townies. Someone who playes more with the EA Story Progression might be able to help, but I can't say I remember it being any different when I did use it.

Like Rachel I always used to get babies in my town.  Somewhere around Pets all of my towns have stopped having children and everyone is moved in instead.  Doesn't seem to matter and I think the only reason I have children and teens is because the game has to have babysitters and newspaper deliverers.

A lot of the problem is that story progression won't give a lot of children to people who don't have cribs so like TheTrip mentioned, maybe having an architect wouldn't be a bad thing but that would be too hard to do for every file at this point.

The last time I saw two townies have children was Artie's first dynasty.  It was before I got pets and it happened to be Thornton Wolff with Anne Song.  That was the absolute last match up I ever got as far as I can remember.

Notice: While a mod for story progression is great, remember that a mod is not supposed to be our first answer for everything.   There are a lot of people on this forum who don't use mods so don't just say get this mod and you'll be fine.

I would say it started around Pets too. They were never too many but I remember having at least some toddlers in my games before that. It gets really annoying after a couple of generations since you basically run out of young sims to marry your sims to. A long time ago I read somewhere that Story Progression could vary according to the computer's specs, in order to avoid lagging in computers that barely met the minimum requirements. I have no idea if that's really so or not but until now I had just assumed that my laptop wasn't good enough for having too many townies so Story Progression didn't make them... but if so many of us are going through the same thing, I'm not sure that's actually so.

Just to clarify:

EA Story Progression does not check for the existence of cribs in inactive households at all.  The absence or existence of a crib has no effect on the efficacy of that system.

Thanks Twallan!  I was under the impression they wouldn't do it but you're right.  I think it's beds they check not cribs.

Well, I just wasted a good deal of time in my decadynasty with the architect career. In a good way. :P

Thanks for the info, Twallan. But now I have no modless solution to this.

EDIT: I guess I can post random observations. While attempting a dynasty in Union Cove, with no mods, I actually saw a couple pregnancies. It would go against the idea that Story Progression scales according to hardware, because Union Cove starts out with a massive amount of townies, plus the homeless ones generated when you start the game. It's the most resource-intensive world I've tried, too. Compare that to Twinbrook, which runs very smoothly on my computer, is maybe two-thirds the size of Union Cove, and has yet to experience any non-user controlled pregnancies when I play with EA's story progression. I'd be quite interested to see what factors are in play between towns.

Two observations:
1) When I stopped playing my first Tanner dynasty in December, the newspaper was still having announcements of babies. I almost never saw adult townie sims suffering accidental death.

2) Since I started playing my second Tanner dynasty in May, I have not seen a single birth announcement in the paper after the initial Appaloosa Plains "baby boom". I see adult townie sims suffering accidental death all the time. It's in a different town, but I'd played a different family in Appaloosa Plains before, on the same computer, without noticing this.

Hypothesis: A patch dating to sometime between December and May tweaked Story Progression, not necessarily in a good way.

I'd never seen a baby born to townies since I started playing Sims 3, so when I started into large multi-gen games, I had to get Twallan's mod.

Well, correction I'd only seen one townie couple ever have a child, and it was the Goths (Cornelia and Gunther), they had a girl. I don't remember her name, but she looked nothing like either of them. She was blond, with a very weird nose.

I also remember that I used to play on an early patch of the game. I actually did see babies born to inactive households (whether original townies, or the families I put in myself). A lot of them were sort of dropped there by the game, with only one parent, but it was vastly superior to everyone dying out. I could have swore some actual pregnancies happened too.

Hypothesis: A patch dating to sometime between December and May tweaked Story Progression, not necessarily in a good way.

Perhaps Patch 1.31? I never played with Story Progression on while I had 1.29 (My preferred style then was kick everyone out of a town, move in my own sims, and cycle through households), so I can't tell if things were different then.

Yeah, I'm just writing down observations. I'm kind of bitter that I have to keep moving in townies in order to control them and actually get some non-generic offspring. Can't you tell? :P

Maybe I'll try installing up to 1.29 on another computer and see if more townie pregnancies happen. I was dropped out of the sim-world up until about 1.31, so I don't really know what changed between then and now.
