bookshelf not working

My sims cant use the bookshelf. Also for books that i've recently 'put away' i cant even read them through my inventory or even place them in build and buy mode. I've tried replacing the bookshelf. Is there a limit to how many books you can have because i probably have every book from the bookstore and about 40 extra that i've written.

I've never experienced that, but maybe it is because you have too many books.  Maybe try taking some books out and putting them on tables as decor and have your sim read them when they feel like it.

Do you have any child sims?
In my experience whenever ive had a baby sim age into a toddler ive had the bookcase glitch where I can't use any bookcase in my sims home.

If you have a toddler sim then the glitch should correct itself the next time the toddler has a birthday and ages up. Or you can force the toddler to age up by purchasing a birthday cake from the build/buy mode in the parties section.

The only books you shouldn't be able to read again are skill books where your skill for that particular book is above the books limit. For example I think for the lvl 1 books you can only read it until your skill has reached level 3.

Ive also had the glitch happen when throwing parties at my sims home, when the party ended sims who were reading books said they had a great time etc. and left with the book and then the bookcase was glitched. So now I either throw parties in a different location to my sims house or put the bookcases in storage before the party.

My advise is to save the game on a sperate file and try aging a toddler if you have one as it's always corrected itself for me when doing so. This would be just to test so you can go back to the original save and get your toddler skills up if you wish.

Also i have not tried aging an adult and moving house has never worked for me either.
