If you're a gardener like me, you end up with hundreds of common fruits and vegetables of middling quality on your way to the Perfect Garden.  These are a blessing in disguise.  Before you take a painting, sculpture, invention or valuable fish to the store, have your selling sim dump the excess produce in the shop.  Your reputation will be made overnight and it will cost you nothing to sell your valuable merchandise through the store.

That's a good tip. I don't do gardening very often but do use a similar method to raise my reputation. It isn't free but is fairly cheap. I go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of the cheapest fruits and vegetables and sell them at the consignment before selling anything else. Takes about 300 to max out you reputation.
