Message to everyone who has a referral presently in treatment

Your input is required on a matter of Treatment Centre policy.  In the human world, treatment centres usually have a policy of discouraging or prohibiting romantic relationships between the residents.  For a variety of reasons, such relationships are seen as ill-advised.  But in the world of Sims, there are no treatment centre rules and we are free to make our own.  Now that Trisha has raised this issue, how do you feel about your sims entering into romantic relationships?  Should we allow it, and if so, how far should it go - would you be willing to see your Sims get married, possibly to another resident?  Please let me know what you think.

Personally, I see no problem with it. I think it would add more to the characters. And as for as far as it would go, I could see them being boyfriend-girlfriend. Maybe engaged, but no more then that. They could get married in a 'What happened a year later' type of thing. But I don't know how other people feel about it, it's just my opinion.

I would say keep official policy as no romantic relationships, but Sims being Sims, these things do happen. In other words, if two Sims start flirting, they might get scolded by Sstarr.

And might I say that Charissa's new athletic outfit looks great!

I agree with Sadie. Let them have romantic relationships but maybe only if they pop wishes.

That's even better! Let them decide, but it's not always safe to let insane sims decide :-\ But it can be entertaining  ;D

I think keeping it wish-related would be cool, keeping in spirit with the vibe of this. I'd be open for Frank to do whatever he wishes for, though I'm not sure how much interest he'd have. I'm glad he's getting along with Twiggy, er , Callum.  :P

Does Clarissa have the Family-Oriented trait? A. has it, and he's always rolling wishes to get married, usually the first day. (I thought Frank did, too, but I might have changed it to something else.)

Yes, Trisha does have the Family-Oriented trait, and she usually pops that wish much faster than I can cancel it. I would be happy with seeing her get into a romantic relationship if she starts popping the wishes for one of the residents of her own free will.

Every time I play her, though, she seems to have a strong inclination toward females. Between that and her Insane trait, I had a lot of trouble getting her to marry her now-deceased Sim husband. I'm fine with her doing whatever she wants, and 5k is a lot of LTHP.

From the responses so far, it sounds like what we're going to do is let Sims decide regarding their romantic relationships.  Works for me.  I've already locked in Trisha's wish to get married because I would have felt like a real heel cancelling such a high-point wish.  Especially when her daughter who referred her expressed a desire for her mother to start dating again - that pretty much makes it a treatment goal for Trisha!  Now, I wonder if she'll find her soul mate.

The Treatment Centre almost came to a premature end this afternoon when I was playing.  Sstarr has maximized the Handiness skill, and as soon as she and Incubus moved in, she wanted to do an upgrade.  There are a lot of plumbing objects and appliances in the Centre, and it would certainly make life easier if they were upgraded.  So Sstarr set to work upgrading the stove to produce better meals, while I supervised the residents getting up.  Suddenly the camera swung over to this:

She was dead!  Electrocuted while upgrading the stove.  I sat in stunned silence.  I've had lots of Sims do upgrades before and never had one die from a stove - in fact, I've had Sims electrocuted before without dying, as long as they didn't immediately start working on the same item again.

Carl's guide says:
Quote
Failing repairs on electronics can cause a Sim to die from electrocution. They don't usually die from the first shock, but the second is likely a sure kill. Handy Sims are immune to this, because they never fail repairs. Sims with high level handiness are also unlikely to die this way. The more complex the device, the more likely the Sim is to die from electroction. The cheapest tv is not as likely to cause death as the transporter lifetime reward, for example. So do some studying before you send your Sim to repair the plasma TV. To trigger this cause of death, get your Sim to repair or upgrade an electronic and get shocked, then immediately jump in to try and get shocked again.

So why???  It wasn't an electronic item, just a stove.  She had level 10 Handiness.  And she was only shocked once.  And she's also Lucky, for all the good that did her.

I was wondering what to do, thinking it was all over.  Then Grim appeared and Sstarr handed him a death flower I had forgotten she had - it appeared in her inventory one day, I assume she got it at work - and she was back!  And I'm sorry, but I was too stunned to get any screenshots other than the one above that I took before I realized she was dead.

I wonder what kind of near-death experience an Insane Sim has?  Especially when they die in what must be fairly unusual circumstances.  Wow.  Anyway, I'm glad she's back because I couldn't see the Treatment Centre going on without her.  And I think I'll use Buydebug to get her a few more death flowers.

I don't know what maxed Handiness should do concerning electrocution. (I'll leave that to more knowledgable folks) However, I've never seen a Sim get electrocuted and die with only one repair failure. I've only ever been able to do it with 2 consecutive repairs. How odd. I'm glad Sstarr had that Deathflower! That would've been a rather anti-climatic end to the great Sstarr Mmcphagall!

Frank wanted to add that he is very glad that he wasn't on mechanical duty, and would like to use this in his protest against further work.  :P

Yeah, poor Sstarr.  First one to be kicked out of the Mole Challenge, and now she's (I assume) one of the few Sims to die under these particular circumstances.  It seems ironic - or tragic, depending on how you look at it - that a Sim with the Lucky trait should have so much misfortune in her short life.

Whew!  Glad she had the deathflower. I've never had a Sim die that way -- not even when they were sitting in a puddle of water working on the dishwasher.

By the way, Charissa has indicated a willingness to go hunting for more deathflower seeds to plant.

I'm glad that Sstarr is okay! Coleen would have probably ran into the forest again to look for her. Be sure to keep a death flower handy!

I think it should be kept wish related too. :D

To:  Eugene Myron
From:  The Management of GO Treatment Centre

Dear Mr Myron,

It has come to our notice that you took Frank out of the Treatment Centre to attend an outside party*.  We are unhappy that you did not see fit to clear this outing with us.  Every aspect of treatment is carefully planned, and it is important for residents to be focusing their attention on their treatment goals as their time with us is limited.  We understand this was a very special occasion, and as Frank was there under your supervision, we will overlook this breach of protocol this time.  Please be sure to clear any future outings with us in advance.

Thank you for your cooperation.

sincerely,

The Management

Dear Management,

I apologize for not approving the celebration with the management. It was a very special occasion, as you said, and I thought Frank ought to celebrate. I had not considered its effect on Frank's treatment, though I would like to add that Frank was practicing his Chess for much of the party, and Logic is a skill that may help him in the future. Nonetheless, I should have informed you, and for that I am sorry. If Frank is to need to leave at any other time during his treatment, I will give you as much notice as I can. Thank you for informing me of this issue.

Sincerely, Eugene Myron

PS: I wonder when those pictures were taken. It must've been our sneaky cousin, A. He's always filming stuff. I guess it's his job.
