Reading Rate in WA Bookstores

I know there are no Libraries in the World Adventures' locations, but does anyone know if Library reading rate boost also applies to the WA bookstores?

No, it doesn't. But what you could do is building a library yourself, or otherwise put an copy of the one from your main town in it. I did that with the Spa, because of that lovely 7 days moodlet your sim can get there.
But if that will improve the reading rate I don't know. You should test it.

Thanks, Leto. This is specifically for a walkthrough character, so no, I won't be editing a WA town. I didn't think the reading rate would apply to bookstores, but you never know.

This is my doctor character for a walkthrough of the revamped medical career. He's a bookworm, so I just thought if reading rate in WA bookstores was the same as the Library boosted rate, then I'd have him Logic skill in the China bookstore. This is after he'd swipe the base camp books to sell later, of course. I mean, first things first, right?

Yes, that is a good thing to do. Especially a bookworm sim could do great in the medical career. I've resently sent my Ian Malcolm sim (aka Jeff Goldblum from Jurassic Park) to the hospital to start the new updated career and soon I find out that being charismatic will help you out a lot to. Because one day my sim decided to vacinate people on the most family friendly place in town: the local graveyard.
I totally really have now clue why of all the available lots he just has to choose the graveyard, but oh well: he just did. So being charismatic will become important now. If it is a must, I don't know, but I thought you need to know this. If your sim is as crazy as mine and is likely to vacinate on graveyards, you could also consider to give him the brave trait to, to just make him a little bit more happy, instead of afraid. Vaccinating people with a shaking hand isn't something that will give you a promotion soon. :P

By the way: the vaccinating thing reminds me a lot of the giving people your signature on lots when you are a superstar in the guitar career.

Oh, big time. It's a total clone of the Autograph Session.

Haha, I thought so. Smart people there, working for EA. :P But what did you think of my other info in the previous post? Is it something that can help in that career you think?

Charismatic is a great trait and a good tip. I chose Friendly instead in addition to what I think are the no-brainers: Over-Emotional, Genius, Bookworm, and Ambitious.  I would not choose Brave simply because of needing to show up at the Graveyard occasionally.

I think workaholic is also a good trait for a doctor, because you do spend so much time at work.  Personally, I'd choose that instead of over-emotional.

I think my last doctor was Ambitious, Genius, workaholic, neurotic, brave.  I think if I did it again I'd to bookworm instead of brave.

Personally, I think Workaholic for career Sims is overrated. I think Over-Emotional does more to boost the Mood metric and keep feeding the performance meter. The downside to choosing Work Hard if a Sim is not a Workaholic is it saps the fun bar a little harder. But, my doctor in the revamped medical career was able to get 5 promotions in the first week of work and never needed to ask for a promotion. It's not easy, but it can be done without Workaholic. Another reason I typically choose OE over Workaholic for career Sims is it's easy for a Sim to be Elated with OE, and that's the point at which a Sim accrues max happiness points.

According to what I found on another forum, a community lot is considered a library if it contains at least 12 bookshelves. I don't think any of the WA bookstores have that many shelves.

A community lot is a library if you give it that function. Otherwise it will remain something else, without the study moodlet.

Why did you give him the neurotic and brave trait?

It depends on what version you play. Before WA (and the matching patch) the "type" of community lot was automatically set depending on what kinds of objects you had on the lot. 12  bookcases was the requirement for a library, and there were similar requirements for pools, art galleries, beaches and so on (which is why the secluded beach in the southwestern corner of Sunset Valley was not recognised as a beach back then).

The patch that came with the release of WA changed this to allowing the typ setting of community lots with a drop-down list. You should be able to flag a vacation community lot that way to create a vacation library, but the bookstores are not set as such (as far as i know). There is one basement under a private home in the egyptian town that is called old library or similar (it is part of an adventure) and does give the library moodlet (which is what gives the faster reading boost).
