New Doctor Career
« on: June 08, 2010, 08:33:43 PM »
Supposedly, the Medical career received an overhaul with Ambitions. Has anyone done this yet? I'm at level 8 now and honestly see very little difference than with the original. There was one 3-event chain Opportunity that was new, and I had one Social pop up called "give experimental treatment" but I've never seen it again. Carl asked me to do a walkthrough on this career and to be honest I'm having trouble seeing real changes. Do these happen mainly when you hit the cap (lvl 10). Pam told me the Prima Guide says you can do Clinics and give vaccinations like at lvl 3 or 4. I've been around town and just don't know how those things make themselves available. I've looked at Map view for any indication of opportunities and I see nothing.

On my doctor, there will be a pop up that says "do free clinic".  I found if I wait to send him to the job until the next day, when he goes where the free clinic is, it counts as him working.  He has 4 hours to give vaccinations.  Sort of like autographs, people rush up and you click on them and you give them a vaccination.  I put pictures up on the post in weird pics and funny posts, it makes his job performance go down some, even though he is working. He did have to go to the criminals warehouse and do some type of work and that really put him in the red.

Salty, when did these popups start appearing — i.e. at what career level? Unless I'm completely missing the popups (unlikely) I have never received a single one.

Started around level 8, but when I put ambitions in, he was already level 7, so not sure if it would have happened before that.  I have only had three popups, one was for a free clinic at the graveyard, imagine that, then the one at the warehouse and then the one at central park.

So, are the clinics and the vaccinations one and the same Salty? In other words, these clinics are the autograph-style mass vaccinations? Is that the only thing different that you've sen so far? I just hit level 8 with my guy, so maybe I just have not had any popups yet. Pam told me the Guide said they would happen earlier, but EA could have changed the coding in the final stages to make it happen later.

Yes, the clinics and vaccines are one in the same.  The other clinic at the warehouse, is just where the progress bar is in the left top corner and you just sit and wait until they are done.

But, the 20k question and probably my deciding factor as to whether I/Carl/Pam feel this is worthy of any more of my time is — are the vaccination clinics the only new thing added? I mean if that's the case, it seems pretty insignificant.

So far, seems to be the only thing Metro, now like I said, I didn't start the doctors after Ambitions, I started it before, but there is nothing else to this doctor career, so I am not really impressed and I am not sure there is anything you could add in the guide about this profession.  I am level 10 now and nothing else has really happened so far.

Well, yuck. I wanted to say something else, but cool thinking won out. I really had my hopes up. Carl is probably ticked and was looking forward to a lot of new information I was going to uncover. I was looking forward to a lot of new stuff. But, running around the town to do these repetitive clinics — and I finally have done a couple...they always seem like they're during work hours — just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's a patched in autograph session type thing of the doctor scrambling to Diagnose everyone. I haven't hit level 10 yet. I should in a couple more work days, so I'm going to stick it out just to see if there's possibly anything else.

You have to go to those clinics during work hours and it still registers as work.  I wasn't sure if you did any of these, I got another one for a clinic at the graveyard where he does diagnosis.  I put some pics up, but when he kicked a lady, thought I would fall off my chair, it was so unexpected.

So these people were x-rayed:

kicked:

poked:

given horse pills:

tweeked:

and hypnotized:

I have to admit, watching him do all of this stuff was really funny.  Thought I would share.

Another thing is supposed to be helping with emergencies when your doctor is out and about, like saving a choking victim. No idea how often these would happen and they are almost certainly random. The changes to the doctor profession may not be terribly impressive, but it'll still need to be covered. Eventually. :D

Just played a doctor from level 1-10.  Kinda sped through so I could have missed some stuff.  There are a few different types of "work" that can happen during business hours.  I got my first one at level four, and maybe three out of five days after that I had the special opportunities.  I never had a random opportunity to save someone from choking but I didn't really eat out, either.  Oh, some of the special opportunities did lower the performance meter (even though it counted as Working) but either came back up when the job was completed or when my sim went back to work.  But others had the performance bar go up the whole time, so I don't know what that's about.  You can work "overtime" if you have a couple opportunities on the same day, this happened for me during a "patch job."  My sim patched up the criminals and then went to patch up the police officers.

I do like the new additions to the medical career.  I believe there are some new "regular" opportunities as well, the kind with more than one step (that is, talk to x person, talk to y person, investigate the City Hall, talk to y person again, convince 5 sims to vote, etc).  Also you can do experimental treatments on yourself or others (was only successful for me with a good friend or better), I believe once every 24 hours.  You get a small bonus and a boost to your performance meter.  The relationship with the sim you experimented on can go up or down depending on what the effect was.

Also you can use your phone to Follow Up With Patient, either by talking to them on the phone or by going to their house (making a house call).  On the phone gives a performance boost but if you go to their house, you earn some money as well for Giving Follow Up Exam.

It's really kind of difficult to not get promoted every day.

Talk about a horse pill, that 4th pic makes me choke looking at it!  Good pics saltypaws, and nice info Jonna.  Metro I'll take a journey through Doctor and let you know if I find anything not covered here.

Jonna, great info there. Gracias. I'm going to play my guy through again because I guess I just wasn't quite observant enough and Carl's gonna need everything spelled out. Thanks again. Tommy, thanks for the offer, but don't do a doctor just on account of me. I'll try 'er again and see if I can find the love. :)

One of my Sims was already in the medical career before Ambitions, and when I installed it first of all, I did get a pop up with the 'Perform Job' options and the tags showed up on the map. Then she got pregnant so wasn't in work so didn't do any of those (also her work requirements look exactly the same as they did pre-Ambitions) and now she's back in work I've not noticed any jobs for her on the world map. She does have the option to do an experimental treatment on other Sims though (the horse pill photo - unsurprisingly, the Sim she asked said no. I would have too, pill that size!)
I was beginning to wonder whether I would have to quit the medical career and join the Doctor profession though? (Because there seems to be no significant change, as far as I can tell; unless I'm being really dim?) I'm reluctant to do that though, since her LTW is to reach the top of the medical career and she's level 8 now.
Grr Argh!
