My mods were causing game lag and I have a question
« on: August 08, 2012, 08:54:12 PM »
I checked at NRaas and didn't see an answer for this so I thought I would ask here.

I've loved using mods and didn't have that many installed but I found my game lagging and freezing. I removed them and now it's playing normally.

I understand that you need some mods to run others, as in you need the career base mod to run any of the careers. My question is this though. Do you have to use Master Controller to run other mods?

If I just wanted to install a few like the traveler mod and the career mod with a career would they work without other mods?

Are there certain mods that are more prone to cause lag?

You don't need any of Twallan's mods to run any other mod, unless the mod you want is an expanded module. Then you need the base module too.

You can run Traveler and Careers + a Career, and no other mod. There's no problem with that.

Also what sweetest pea said is true but there is one exception: Master Controller Progression. This module requires both MasterController and StoryProgression installed in order to function.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to finish. The main culprit when it comes to lag when using mods is StoryProgression mods.

Thanks, both of you. I thought you could just run a couple of mods but  I was just wondering if MC was just that, a master controller for running all other mods.

I hate that story progression causes lag. I was really enjoying the way it kept my town alive and all the little pop ups that told me what was going on in town.

With Story Progression try to limit the number of stories. I disable stories about cat hunting, etc. and other ones I'm not interested in. That has helped to decrease my lag.

Oh, that's a good tip that I forgot about!  When I first used story progression--which I love!--I had really limited the stories, but I forgot about that and didn't do it when I started a different game, and it does seem laggy.  Perhaps this is the culprit!  And I was wondering why I was getting all those random stories again!   ;D
