The Sims 3 Seasons: Coming November 13th
« Reply #60 on: August 03, 2012, 04:20:51 AM »
According to SimGuruGraham's twitter they're not bringing in a new town because they put that time towards making existing/store worlds compatible with seasons. Unfortunately, he doesn't specify if they did any work to actually update towns for other expansions.
From the discussions on Twitter, it looks like seasons and weather effects will be compatible with any EA worlds (EP and store, but not the ones from WA) AND any player created worlds too. This is just great. I can accept the lack of a new town in the EP for the sake of a good backward compatibility.

So excited! It's wonderful having so many expansions in one year - even though it's a lot to take in lol. Also it makes me wonder if they are trying to wrap up sims 3 expansions in preparation for a possible sims 4? It just seems that they are giving us EVERYTHING. Not that I'm complaining :)

Curtis Paradis and some other people (I can't remember who) crunched the numbers. Given the usual release cycle (88 days, I think), TS4 would come out in mid 2014. There's a little way to go yet. ;)

This is the first EP i've ever felt excited about for sims 3, I got the game when it was released, the same with World Adventures, but I was still very into sims 2 back then and didn't truly get into sims 3 till I reinstalled it last year, although I now have some of the EP's I got them only as base game alone was getting dull, this is one I will get because I really want it.

I loved seasons in sims 2 and Riverblossom Hills was my favourite town, I think that's why I prefered Riverview over Sunset Valley when I first played as it's more like it. I'm sorry there will be no new town but im glad it will work in the others and in player made ones as i've been fiddling with Riverview in CAW lately for my own amusement.

I can see there will likely be even more places to try and add in towns though which is a headache, the festival areas i'm assuming. Wonder how that will work, will one plot change with the seasons maybe? I guess we shall see. Or maybe we will get items to place in existing parks for it. I just hope if there are placeable lots they aren't like the movie studio and way too big to put anywhere.

And Aliens! so far the occult types haven't interested me, i'm really not bothered about Supernatural, but I loved Strangetown and my alien babies  ;D

Ok, so I want this.  And I want to pre-order it so I can get the Ice Lounge thing.  But I own the Steam version of the game, and there is no preorder available in that format.  However, I have downloaded the game and all the expansions and stuff packs I own through Origin, so I could use the Create a World feature.

I just checked, and I can indeed launch from Origin and it loaded up my most current save which happens to be in the custom world I created.  I got the "some word items missing and were replaced" error, but everything seemed be normal in my sim's house (just happened to be the house I built for the Olympic Starter content, so this place is pretty small and was built to be only vanilla).

So, my question is, can I pre-order from Origin, download when available, and then play through Steam and have the new content and Ice Lounge available?  My gut feeling is yes, but I'd love to have some confirmation.  I don't really want to buy this expansion twice if it doesn't work.
I'm Tealeaf, and I approve of this message.

This looks great. I love snow and anything to do with it. :) And finally, Sims will be able to swim in natural bodies of water (I hope not only the ocean), and there are diving boards which I've always wanted, too. Hopefully it'll all be well-tested, what with it coming so soon after Supernatural.

No one has mentioned soccer yet!  I'm so excited about finally having soccer for the first time in Sims!  My sims will be able to wearing the World Cup jerseys from 2010 and finally get some games on, though I bet it's just some penalty kicks, with the goal box.

Aliens!  I'm hoping the aliens are like from Sims 2, getting men preggers and having full black-out eyes.

I'm hoping for neighborhood-wide holidays.  I'm not sure how Fall or Spring festivals are going to play-out.  I hope it's not like when your neighborhood has a grill-a-thon.
I'm curious to see how seasons will play out in World Adventure locations.  Will there be snow in the Simhara?

I bet they get around the chilly moodlet with frozen furniture at the ice lounge with a loophole such as wearing winter gear while on ice furniture cancels chilly moodlet.  I like ice furniture but not the negative moodlet that it gives.

I'm probably going to pre-order this but wait to install.  I worry with expansions coming out so soon together they can't address glitches and bugs from both games in short time.  But I'm still super excited!

Someone mentioned a few posts back that there shall be no weather in the WA locations. :)

I never saw the football thing! Very very awesome!

If you installed your games through origin than you are no longer playing through Steam.  And if you did that then its ok to preorder through Origin.  I would like to mention that you don't have to use origin or steam to play also if you used origin to install this last time.  This is way off topic though and there are several threads on the general discussion board about steam.  I would point them out but I'm on my mobile at the moment.

I'm getting a bit overexcited about this now. I hope that the different weathers won't affect plants as that would be annoying.

I've never played the Sims2. I was just wondering how the seasons are going to effect gardening. Does this mean that in autumn and winter we won't be able to garden at all. I wonder for how long each season will last.

I can see myself needing a new computer to be able to play these two large expansions coming up. I'll try it first and see how my computer takes it.

I have a vague memory of fruit trees going dormant in winter, but it's a while since I played sims 2 and my sims 2 and sims 3 memories are rather jumbled up together now.

I do remember building a greenhouse for my gardens, i'm fairly sure that came with it but I have used mods so unless somebody else can verify the greenhouse thing don't quote me on it.

But of course in sims 2 gardening didn't arrive until seasons where it is base game here and quite different, I hope they don't make it too seasonal or maybe give us seasonal crops, pumpkins for that pumpkin pie they mentioned perhaps  :)

EDIT: I googled the greenhouse and yes it did come with the game, be nice if they added that back in, useful for many builds as well as greenhouses.

One of the links said that you can control the length of the seasons through the options menu.

I really hope that the cold weather does not messing up gardening or fishing. How will sims fish if the ponds ice over?

Since they mentioned being able to swim in the ocean for a polar bear club moodlet, sims will probably still be able to fish there.
