Deauthorization limit?
« on: August 02, 2012, 07:24:28 AM »
I work with digital downloads through Origin (I'm a clutz and no dvd is same near me :P ) and I know you can have 5 computers authorized at the same time. However, when browsing the helpsection, I read something about a deauthorization limit. This has me quite worried!
Seeing as I have negative experiences with the helpdesk, I was hoping someone on here could enlighten me. Do you have any experience with a maximum number of deauthorizations?

I emailed EA and they said you have 20 de-authorisations and they will reset the counter if you mail them once/if you reach it. Though I guess this will work fine, I still find it strange that this limit is mentioned nowhere on their website. Also, if you are going to reset the counter, then why implement a counter in the first place? ???

Did they say exactly what a de-authorization is?

Usually Pam,  the deauthorization is like this:  Say you have  a large household and put your Sims game on five PC's in the house which is the authorization limit. Now if you buy a new computer and want to have the game on that one instead of say the oldest PC in the house, you would need to deauthorize it from the old PC before you can install it on the new PC. It's to stop people just downloading the game to all their friends' computers.
